I was really hoping that Fagnano was going to have a breakout game today because he was playing in the dome. Both our QBs have dealt with the wind at the Rent, and since Fagnano is supposed to have the bigger arm, I was hopeful that the deep ball was going to really be there.

It wasn't. He doesn't have touch. It's either fast ball or high lob. If Mora goes with Evers next week, I suspect it's gonna be because we'll have more run and RPO at Amherst...

Dan, 100%. I am team Joe, but Jesus, he was awful. Throwing at the shoes or whipping the ball or behind the receiver. I have more respect for Mora on who starts now. I don’t care now against ZooMass.

Also, it’s clear where we stand. We’re funded and coached well enough to be a top G5 program. We missed on the QB portal - that’s not ideal but it’s ok, LSU and FSU both missed hard this year too. We’ll keep improving. I’m hyped for next season.

I think you have a misconception of NIL for non P2 programs. Sure, there will be players who move up in level, but there will be even more looking to move down in search of playing time. And at our level, our NIL funds are more than adequate to get good QB, and that's without the planned increase for next season.
Then how come we have not had a good qb in ages?

He wasn't good. But he still gave us the best chance to win for a variety of reasons.

I think UMass is going to be tough game. I think playing them will be like chewing rocks. They have a huge chip on their shoulders too. We still need the guy who can help us use the WRs more effectively. And that means Joe.

Syracuse was able to get McCord, a starting QB at a top 5 program who was fully developed due to relationships. He is a once in a decade/2 decade QB for Syracuse and that was the difference in the game. Next year, their QB play will drop off considerably.

Anybody who doesn't see how much the team has improved this year is blind. And, coaching is better this year with the new OC and DC. I've enjoyed the season and the foundation has been layed under Mora and the football program is in much better shape.

If you want to see the football team take the next jump, support the NIL efforts, specifically Bleeding Blue for Good. UConn will be hitting the portal again hard this year and it seems the portal is right up Mora's alley as he and his coaches have done a good job of evaluating available talent. Increased funding will get even better players.
Very well said!

Do you think another senior starting QB from a top 5 program who has strong ties to HC Brown is going to be available for Syracuse next year?

No but they now have a budget, a track record and some good momentum.

I don't think they have a complete team though. We didn't even play all that well and still found some seams to exploit on offense and defense. And they don't have a kicker.

Ahh, my pet peeve. With the financial resources UConn and G5 programs have, if you hire a head coach who is defense minded, it's hard to fund a good OC. UConn has not hired a good OC in 10 years+. If you have limited financial resources, you should hire an offensive minded HC so he can bring in the QBs and offensive talent. It is much easier to hire a decent DC than a decent OC.

Mora has decided to hire young up and coming coaches who are affordable as well as have good upside.

I don’t see people complaining about winning. I do see people considering the quality of the teams we’ve beaten in trying to analyze how much we’ve improved and where we are as a program.
Again you can only beat those on your schedule. This game was the toughest UConn faced all year and yes I am including Maryland which was just a crap show.

Some people never see the light and only the bleakness. I will take where UConn is and will beat UMass next week for an 8-4 record and a bowl game with more practice time

They are the better team, have the better qb, are better in the trenches we knew that going in we knew we were gonna fight till the better end as well.

We had our chances and couldn’t capitalize off of them let’s take it to Umass next week who won’t be a pushover.
Would love to play them next year at the Rent.

Definitely not on the coaching staff, he's wearing a Zephyr hat and of course the UConn coaches all wear Nike gear. I just watched a sped up replay of the game and it didn't look like he was on the sideline in the first half. While he was tagging along closely to Mora, I didn't see him talking to him at all. I'm guessing he was just someone's sideline guest - maybe an NIL booster? Don't know why he was shadowing Mora so closely.

Mora post-game:

-> Fagnano for UConn, for now: UConn coach Jim Mora chose Joe Fagnano to start at quarterback, citing his winning performances as a backup and Nick Evers‘ lingering foot and hip injuries. But he hinted Evers could be back to play vs. UMass next week.

Joe’s done some really good things for us when we’ve put him in those situations,” Mora said. “We felt that was the best decision for today’s game, it means nothing going forward.” … <-
Basically, Mora is pretty much trolling the Boneyard at this point.
