We will see how it plays out but I think everyone realizes this as much about a TV power play ESPN FOX CBS nbc as it is college athletics
Of course. ESPN would be absolutely stupid not to fix the contract and possibly pay on par with the SEC or B1G. They can easily make the money back through ad revenue and maybe subscriptions to an ACC Network. This is theirs for the taking.

If the ACC takes UConn, you do realize the ACC would have access to more homes in their markets than any other conference? Includes Boston, Chicago, NYC, Miami, Charlotte and Atlanta, at least. That is 6 out of the top 10 metropolises. Add Texas and the ACC has 8 out of the top 10 covered. Only exceptions would be Philadelphia and Los Angeles.
Have to correct myself. Charlotte is not in the top ten. But Washington DC-Virginia is. The B1G took Baltimore-DC and NJ-NYC. They already had Philadelphia via Penn State. The ACC still has upstate NY-NYC (which would also penetrate NJ with ND) and possibly Hartford-NYC, if they take UConn. ND's potential impact is enormous. The ACC and it's television partners have to be clever and make a monster out of what's on hand. They'd be sharing DC and NYC with the B1G. Baltimore is no real big loss if they take in UConn.

You do realize that Notre Dame already has all of the above plus the entire country already right?

Notre Dame doesn't need more exposure. They need a conference that will let them play big time college basketball while keeping football independent.

With Roman Catholics, sure. They will still play 62.5% of a football conference schedule. And it is possible they will be coerced into becoming a full member down the road for easier access to bowls or the playoffs. All that needs to be done is the television partners need to realize what's on hand and completely pounce on it. This is an opportunity of a lifetime, really. Solidify the conference at 14 (with UConn added) and grow from there. Texas should be on the radar if this can be accomplished.

Every single home game is on National TV with their own network. With them playing well, nearly every away game will be on National TV. They are one of the most popular brands in all of sports.

There is absolutely nothing to gain for Notre Dame. They would just be giving up their freedom of action. They have no reason to say to the ACC anything beyond: "That's very interesting, thank you."

They are just repeating the same scheme that they did in the Big East.

If ND gets to the BCS championship game it immediately buys a new decade of relevance, right when it was starting to fade. Wait and see what terms and conditions the ND-ACC football games start to take, I wouldn't expect Duke and Wake to get any campus home games for instance.

Absolutely right. ND sucking it up and playing the ACC every year in football was the price they paid to stay independent and play ACC basketball. They will use that leverage to schedule Duke to play them at the Vatican if they so desire.
