any idea why the staff doesn't want him? grades? His videos make him look like he could be a great addition with his athleticism, however the videos are obviously put together to make all of these kids look like superstars

He has a lot of athleticism and would be great on the break, but how much of the game is played on the break? What is this kid going to do in the half court, when he's got to present some sort of danger off the ball if he's not directly part of the pick-and-roll? From what I've seen and read, not much.

And then defensively, can he guard the wing? He's a 4 in high school, but will be an undersized 4 in college. No easy match-ups there.

I remain content with our recruiting class, and would rather keep the scholarship open for a late flip, a 5th-year guy, JaQuan Lyle, or simply roll it over into the 2015 group.

(I reserve the right to reverse my position on all of this if we happen to sign him!)

Yeah, this sounds just like Cleveland Melvin. That skinny kid had no skills and couldn't guard a chair. Then he went to DePaul and somehow they developed him into one of the best players in the Big East in a month. Good thing he went there and we got Harkless.

Well, there is a difference if our coach does not actually offer him as compared to kids deciding to go somewhere else. I don't really recall the details about Melvin....was that supposed to have been a "mutual" decision or did he just decide to not come to UConn?

Melvin committed and then we kind of encouraged him to go elsewhere because we had Harkless and others coming in. Our mistake.

Swift is a freak athlete and all reports are that not only is he human highlight reel but he is also a great rebounder. I think he seems like a guy we could use.

I believe there was a "mutual" agreement that UConn may not have been the best place for Mr Melvin all of a sudden!

As I recall, Staff wanted Melvin to spend a lot of time at the 4, but he wanted to play the 3. So he went to DePaul to play the 4 and build his character by learning how to lose. Instead of getting a NC ring in 2011, he's never been to the Tourney, DePaul is 4-4, and hopefully will be able to pull out their next big matchup against Florida Atlantic. Good choice Cleveland.

Agree wholeheartedly. I think he took King over Gomes or was it Austin Croshere. Either way, both those guys were miscalculations, but I don't want to criticize JC, he made more good recruiting choices than bad over the years.
