Given the roster sizes [11?] it is hard enough for first round picks to make WNBA teams.
I wonder if Iowa State grad Anna Prins....second round Sun selection....has a prayer of making the roster. I follow ISU a bit and she does have some uniqueness about her. She is 6'7" and can shoot from deep. She had 23 in the ISU second round loss to Georgia in this year's tournament.

I wonder if that somewhat odd combo of height and shooting ability might make the Sun take a close look.

Good question. I'm sure they will evaluate. Do you know if Dabo joins the team this year? If so, I'd think Prins' chances would be even lower...

11 active player size limit makes it difficult for more than 1 rookie to make a WNBA team per year. The Sun are losing Asjha Jones for the year, so Kelly's spot is all but assured. Only way for other rookies to make it would be by cutting a veteran with proven stats. I don't see a lot of weakness among Sun players. I don't think any are vulnerable to 2nd or 3rd round draft choices.

I hope she's good enough to stick. Asjha took a lot of pressue off of Tina in the post... I think the Sun need another effective big REALLY bad. Sandrine would make a big difference to this team, but I don't see it happening.

Prins has a shot this season, particularly if Gruda decides not to play. Most WNBA teams will carry 6 perimeter players and 5 posts. Posts typically play fewer minutes and are more prone to foul trouble so usually a 5th post is kept instead of a 7th perimeter player.

Right now the Sun only have 3 for sure post players: Tina Charles, Mistie Mims, and Kelsey Griffin. So that leaves at least 1 spot open for competition and potentially 2 if Gruda decides she isn't going to come back to the WNBA. Prins would be competing with Jessica Moore and Ashley Walker primarily for a roster spot.

Prins could be seen as an interesting project for Donovan and Gillom that leads to keeping her on the roster this season to try and develop, particularly with Asjha gone this season. The Sun don't have much height in the post so that separates Prins, and a post that can spread the floor for Tina is probably intriguing in a backup post. Finding a 6'5" or taller center that has the offensive skill set to play with Tina, not just instead of Tina is a need in my opinion. The Sun really lack that tall post that a number of other teams have. She's going to have to learn to be a lot more physical though.

It's possible Prins can unseat Jessica Moore, but unlikely in my opinion. Moore has played over 200 games in the wnba including about 60 starts. Prins may be 6-7, but that wasn't good enough to make her a 1st round pick and barely a 2nd rounder. I think Moore can keep her spot, assuming she really wants it.

Can't teach hight and with Jones out, it may open the door. Don't know enough about her game to really comment on her skills, but there also seems a little bit of a log jam at defensive stopper with Hightower, Greene, and now Faris so one of those might be traded for a future pick.

Prins had some really good games against Griner. I would not be surprised to see her make it. UCM said, you can't teach height. There aren't tops my 6-7 players out there that can step out and shoot the deep ball.

At 6'7" she can shoot from the perimeter over guards and forwards....and if you send a big out after her that would create more
opportunities for Tina et al underneath. It's an interesting pick.

The later rounds are good for getting folks that just, just might be able to contribute something. Almost none ever make it, but if someone is even remotely possible, you get to take a look.

Sounds like this was a good choice, but not necessarily likely to be a keeper.

True. Most don't, but she could be a longer term development project particularly if she gains experience overseas.
