Could swear I heard Thursday Shea quoted as saying Mikayla Blakes is the best player in the NCAA. When I saw the start of yesterday's game it reminded me that perhaps "waking a sleeping dog" or giving a reason to HH to come out on fire, with a chip on her shoulder, might not have been the best strategy even if she just meant to bolster her own player.

Mikayla is a POY finalist. Shea was doing her job in advocating for her

Hannah is a Defensive POY finalist, btw

Tough loss for Shea, and given a preference I would rather face Vandy than ND - prefer playing teams that have not experienced Uconn's defensive pressure than ones that have seen it before. Really good run for ND to get to the E8 and not really unexpected by me. Having a Hidalgo like player who can and does take over games is a huge advantage for an 'underdog.' Don't sleep on TCU and Miles either.

I was neutral in who I favored in this matchup, and as I look at the Sweet Sixteen results, I'm a bit more convinced all 4 #1 seeds are likely going to the Final Four, so it seems a bit of a non-issue at this point favoring one team over another in so far as the Huskies' chances are.

But I must confess that I have an internal conflict. On the one hand, I want UConn to have the easiest path to hoisting trophy #13 and to that end, I'd be happy if UCLA, and/or Texas, and/or South Carolina trip up on the road to Phoenix. {And yes, I know we could be surprised by another MISS State along the way.} On the other hand, wasn't last year thrilling to see them beat 3 #1 seeds?!?

The first half of my inner conflict is delighted Miles & Hidalgo are no longer both playing for Notre Dame.
