The kid got kicked off the team, rightly so. Another article said the players that got stuck with the sharp object will have blood tests to see if they got any blood-borne pathogens.

I don't know about the kid's mother not letting her son be interviewed. When a child does something he knows is wrong, he needs to pay the price. 'Fess up, take the punishment, learn from it and move on. I think if the boy admits his act and tells authorities it was only meant as a prank (stupid though it may be) he would be in far less trouble than lawyering up.

I hope he also got a long-term suspension, or was expelled. Not just dumb, but dangerous. He needs to pay a very high price.

There are pranks that go awry, pranks with poor judgment, and actions that border on deranged. This seems close to the last one - he had to think it up, plan it out, and decide that this was a good idea.

This reminds me of the stupid kids who would put thumb tacks on kids chairs when I was growing up. And if you sat down on one and screamed you got detention. Definitely insult to injury.

i think the fact that the kids mother plans to "hire an attorney to defend her son" is equally disturbing given that no charges have been filed. it was called a prank, but pranks are harmless. i don't blame people for being upset. i could see his mom being "forced" to hire an atty if charges were filed, but what does he need a lawyer for at this point?
