5 minutes before kickoff, all seats become first come first serve. Fill the lower bowl at a minimum. Arrive late? Enjoy the second row of the upper deck on the shady side.
You have several good ideas here on this topic Chin but this in not one of them. ;) First displacing late arriving season ticket holders would only further the amount of time for them to realize the game is going on, which usually takes the entire first quarter. Second, to use the upper deck on the shady side as retribution could get you in hot water with attorneys that sit there. Just kidding Biz...:D

Another thought. As a few have mentioned this opportunity is a cost on the Athletic Dept.

So,,,,,,,,,,,how about strong arming some Ct businesses in to sponsoring it???

Lockheed Martin just completed its acquisition of Sikorsky. Have them pony up some cash to pay for buses, security and T-shirts. UTC was more than happy to offload Sikorsky so I don't think they'd object.

I would love it if UConn gave away a bunch of unsold tickets to Pratt employees again. The sections that they filled up for the Nova game are still a very dark blue (high number of seats available) on the ticket site. Whatever boosts attendance for this game is for the greater good of the team and the university.

will never happen... besides, is that really how you want CT perceived by businesses? Start pulling that crap and that sucking sound will be the jobs the people of CT rely on moving to some other state.
Giving businesses reason to support the university is a different matter, and one that doesn't have to be exclusive to CT based companies.

I just find it frustrating that over and over again or athletic department continues to behave like we are still in the Yankee Conference. This is yet another manifestation. As I said if we told Furman to play a doubleheader on Saturday they would do it. And if we told the Atlantid folks we don't want to play Saturday I have no doubt they would have accommodated us. Because if they don't we'll play in some other event. In the past Calhoun refused to play certain teams in the early rounds of these things and it didn't matter. This " we have no control" hogwash is just that. It is an excuse to cover up the lazy Yankee Conference attitude that is present in abundance in our Athletic Department.

You only need to ask and handle the logistics of production and distribution. Corporations have marketing budgets just for this kind of thing. Association with the State U is good for business.

I don't think the AD is equipped to ask for or distribute 10k t-shirts. You are talking less than 100k.

Yeah, I don't think Fortune 500 companies base their employment locations on whether or not state universities ask for money for promotional events.

Here's what Herbst should offer

Dear Student,

As part of our BIG efforts to upgrade the university, if you attend football game on 11/21. you will be eligible to receive 2 extra credit points on a final exam of your choice if you attend and stay until the end of the game. So, get an 88 on your Chemistry exam, bring your ticket stub and proof of your purchase, and you got yourself an A! So, go BIG and don't go home Sat.

SH

If you want to draw the casual fan - do something crazy like 50 cent beers in the stadium. What could possibly go wrong?
That made me LOL. Along the same vein, I was on the Grand Rapids Drive web page today (Ryan Boatright's new NBA D-League team). Their season opener is Saturday night, and Wednesday's are $1.00 beer nights. Tix are only $5.00!

I was going to admonish you for stealing a North Carolina idea; then realized your idea requires actually taking the test.

Yup. Getting $15 for a ticket is better than getting $0 for a ticket and going through the emotional letdown and embarrassment of having less than 30K in the stadium for the biggest game in years.

For years I have been preaching this. Perception! And yes, I am a season ticket holder. I don't care if I get screwed out of a few bucks. I just want filled venues.

Any season ticket holder complaining about giveaways or discounts is an idiot.

Season tickets are a long-term, locked-in investment. Better crowds increase the value of that investment. Demand is low, so the price drops.

This really isn't any different from buy-and-hold in your 401k, except for maybe the fact you're buying in a bit early with your heart, and not your head.

If supply/demand dictates $15 - so be it. You're holding your investment for other reasons. Maybe it's to recoup losses when tickets become scarce. Maybe it's for the joy you'll get when things go well. Who cares? You bought in - suck it up.

You didn't get a hat or a plastic soda cup and you can't tailgate for 5 hours. So there.

Following on my analogy, those things are "dividends"

If it were up to me I would say they shouldn't schedule any home BB games the same WEEKEND as any home FB game. Unless you have nothing going on in your life most people wouldn't make both no matter when they are scheduled (unless you had a marquee opponent). Just eats up too much time.

Here's an idea, our men's basketball team plays Furman on Saturday at noon on campus... It doesnt matter in the grand scheme of things, and its against a nothing opponet. I say if you're a student you skip the hoops action, and get your ass to the Rent to tailgate at 10 or 11 like the rest of us! The Football program needs them wayyyy more than Kevin Ollie and the basketball team does. Let's be honest.

Bonus Points- You can't tailgate at Gampel.

moron
[mawr-on, mohr-] /ˈmɔr ɒn, ˈmoʊr-/
noun
1. A person who has tickets to both major UConn sporting events on November 21, 2015 and passes up basketball for a game of flip-cup (or the like) in the Rentschler Field parking lot

2. Informal. a person who is notably stupid or lacking in good judgment:
I wonder why they elected that narrow-minded moron to Congress.

3. Psychology. (no longer in technical use; now considered offensive) a person of borderline intelligence in a former and discarded classification of mental retardation, having an intelligence quotient of 50 to 69.

Hey, who you calling a moron!?!

You honestly don't agree that going to a basketball game against a terrible SoCon school is pretty worthless right now considering how good the team is, and considering what's a stake for the Football Huskies?? We NEED fans to fill The Rent... hope its colder and that the elements combined with a raucious crowd can put some added pressure on Houston's offense.

I'll let a past post in a different thread speak for itself:

For those who have tickets to both Basketball and Football that day, the importance hierarchy of where you should be, given a conflict, as follows:

1. Football game vs. Houston
2. Basketball game vs. Furman
3. Tailgate before football game

My personal best case scenario is that the basketball game will occur within the 4 1/2 hours preceding 1/2 hour before kickoff, so I can watch basketball in the parking lot at that football game and still have time to pack up and make it into the stadium.

There will not be a conflict in game time. Provided a conflict, tailgating is the least important priority.

The question is... how many out of state kids are going to hang around CT during Thanksgiving break to see either game? How many instate kids are? I hate to say it but are there enough UConn alumni to make up the difference? What I don't understand is why there isn't special packages for high school coaches to bring their teams to the Rent along with those kids parents. It'd be nice to see a parade of yellow buses pouring into the Rent. Talk about a win/win scenario...high school coaches getting a extra chance to talk and analyze football with their kids while watching the college game...right in their back yard. If I was a high school coach I'd jump at that chance.

So the gist of this thread is that the AD should give away all unsold tickets and give free stuff to those whom already have tickets. Is that about right?

You can't have it both ways. We're either small-time thinking, and doing nothing, or we do something that, yes, costs money. The question is - would there be reasonable return on investment? The 330 kick took some of the wilder stuff out of play (including most plans to attend both games), but we should do *something* when presented with this situation...
