Studio Ghibli renditions of iconic moments in UConn History

You know, it's entirely the case that some people care about more than just their bottom line. Just because some people—perhaps you?—can't imagine having principles that come in conflict with profits doesn't mean everyone is like that.

A thief believes everyone steals...
Look - as tempting as it might be, I'm really not trying to turn a thread that's intended to be a tribute to a team we love and memories throughout the ages into a just another internet argument about AI and Art. If you want to make a tribute to iconic moments in UConn history, please feel free to contribute. If you'd rather focus on your feelings about AI and Art, I'd be happy to debate it ad nauseum with you in OT.

I only commented because you assumed Miyakaki—who called AI generated art "an insult to life itself"—would not care about his art being stolen because he's making a few bucks. More correcting an inaccuracy in responding to that post than anything else.

My other response, too, was in response to someone going beyond the thread's original purpose.

Though in each case I acknowledge each of you were responding to someone's critique. I'm happy to bow out on this, but I do think it's important to acknowledge openly that the creator of this style artwork hates that AI creates this sort of thing and the LLMs have stolen from him.

Be thankful that you don’t have to learn their way of speaking including the use of emojis over text.
4chan started as a site for nerdy goofballs who appreciated anime and Japanese techno culture. And over time its community morphed into something truly deranged and twisted that its originators despised, and one that could be manipulated for evil. Just sayin'...

Oh I have this handy at all times:

Fair enough, I respect that you are trying to stand up for what you believe Miyazaki believes. But let me point out that Miyazaki himself has actually not commented AT ALL on the recent Studio Ghibli AI stylization trend. Your claim that Miyazaki is against all AI generated art as "an insult to life itself" comes from a 2016 recording of him negatively reacting to an extremely trashy and crude AI generated animation that one of his staff presented to him. So, claiming that you can speak for an artist based on comments he made 9 years ago (before ChatGPT even existed) about a trashy piece of AI-generated animation is dubious at best.

No need to worry though, I have proof right here that Miyazaki himself approves of all these images and of the UConn Huskies.

Check it out!

Nothing like rooting for the villains, here big tech. Did you also root for Old Man Potter in It's a Wonderful Life?

The whole business model is to steal everything we've created and then to find a way to sell it back to us. And they're going to find ways around actually compensating people they stole things from because of fear-mongering China's (FREE, OPEN-SOURCED) AI.

To be clear: tech is neither good nor bad. AI is coming and can be a real net positive. Cheering it putting people out of jobs? Meh, not something for me. Supporting companies that are openly stealing and trying to profit off of it? Yeah, I guess the rich are the only protected class and we have enough naive poors (on a relative scale) perfectly happy to watch their neighbors suffer.
I only cheer when people think they, and they alone are somehow above or beyond the reach of technology or progress, however you want to view it. You're not, nor is anyone else. Everyone needs to get over themselves.

I mean, honestly, if not for this AI, these pictures would not exist. Period. Nobody is going to commission them, or draw them by hand in their spare time.

I'm standing up for reality.

Honestly, who besides you actually cares that these pictures would not exist?

Honestly, they pretty much suck. Just my opinion, but it's absolutely as valid as yours when it comes to evaluating art.

Musicians have pretty much had to hit the road for constant touring in order to make money as technology (and its users) destroyed the recording industry. "Music should be free". Bullbleep. What would you like artists to do? Rent out a hall and paint "live"?

Clearly, the people posting them in this thread, at a minimum.

I wasn't making a value judgement about it, only pointing out that fact. And I have not "evaluated art" anywhere in this thread. I don't really care what artists do. Nor anyone else. But I will include artists in the group "anyone", unlike the anti-AI people. Nobody gets a carve out from the progress of technology. Simple as that.

What about the lineup shot for the 99 and 04 teams?
