Just call her "the natural!" She's such a pleasure to watch. No fanfare- no overdone makeup no calling attention to herself.
She just walks on the court- calm and cool- and plays the game she was born to play. God bless her.

Why is it so difficult to keep the discussion to basketball skills?

What amazes me is that she attended what I think was an OK high school with an OK girl's team that she dominated. Usually big players like that have very basic skills because they dominated without them. Strong must have played a lot of one on one against her parents when she was little and learned to emulate their moves and body language and lucky for her that they were both pros. I think she also got their fast-twitch muscles. Tiger Woods' son looked just like his father when her was 13, right down to the body language and mannerisms. Maybe that's why Strong's body language makes her look so mature.

Maybe just retire the award at this point, because she should win it every week? One of the most under-the-radar frosh I can think of in a long time, probably because there are so many other personalities and UConn hasn't peaked yet. But damn, she's going to be an awesome college player. In a lot of respects she reminds me of Maya, minus as much hype coming into college.

@Puppy Love was talking about the cheap shot at other players’ appearances
There may be those who have never played, or coached, the game. But, surely those on BY should know that basketball is first and foremost a team sport.

Accordingly, the collective skill level of your players is not the sole measure of the potential success of your team. Does the team have character?

On an individual level, does a given player have leadership qualities? Is she positive, upbeat, supportive, unselfish, approachable... does she have a team first attitude?

Or- is she in it for herself first.... is she already looking for the portal .... does she try to set herself apart from the team by calling attention to herself?. Does she want to be a celebrity, a drama queen or a loyal teammate?

Fortunately, the UCONN roster is replete with team players- Sarah Strong is one of the most preeminent examples. She has an excellent skill level- and her attendant character attributes elevate her to the superstar level. .That was my point.

It was stated above that I took a “cheap shot”- (though the comment was not posted to me.) I took no cheap shot- if there was a cheap shot- it came from someone else.

Yikes, this got out if hand fast… My ‘dislike’ on the original post and subsequent comment was for ‘no overdone makeup no calling attention to herself’.

The reason I gave it a ‘dislike’ is that no one should be judging player integrity by appearance. Women should be allowed to play sports without any commentary on their appearance when it is not relative to the game.

For what it’s worth, Sarah Strong has rapidly become one of my favorite players. But I don’t think her demeanor is any more valuable than a player like Diana Taurasi who was constantly in everyone’s face.

I’m old enough to have lived in a business world where is sexism was rampant. Part of the language of sexism is how we talk about women’s appearances in relationship to their ability to do their job. Sometimes, yes, it can be a matter of safety, but many times it is simply a desire to continue ‘the way it’s always been’.

I know that this is a fan forum, and things like this are not a matter of life and death. I do think, though that there is value in pointing these things out.

Do you recall referencing "no overdone makeup"? That sounds like a reference to other players' appearance to me.
