Stop-over city in CT?

Does Calhoun still have a house in Pomfret?

I know he sold his Madison house a few years ago and bought one in Green Hill, RI. but I don't remember if he kept his Pomfret place.
I’m sure he did. He needed somewhere to live while coaching St Joe’s and he’s been at UConn a ton in the last year. Unless he downsized and moved to Glastonbury or something, I’d bet he’s still there.

New Yorkers also go to the Northwest Hills in droves. They drive the real estate prices. You’d be very surprised how many go to the northeast corner too. Brian Dennehy and Rene Zellweger were both Quiet Corner long timers. Quite a few titans of industry and Wall St hiding out there too.
Denney was born in bpt .zellweger from tejas,..there not n.y.ers

Litchfield county on a summer weekend is like 25% New Yorkers. Litchfield, Washington, Kent, Salisbury, just so many New Yorkers.

Put it on my tombstone
I remember that the bartender heard me expressing my dislike for Malbec. He listened, said he understood why I had that reaction, and then offered me a taste of one that he thought might change my mind. He was right. I didn't love it, but it was totally quaffable and I didn't didn't dislike it. Nice touch.

That explains why a ham on rye a pickle and a bag of chips put me out 27 bucks

First of all, not including Vecchitto's is sacrilege. I spend way, way too much there over the summer.

Makes me happy to know that place is still around. Almond and watermelon were my go-tos when I was a kid.

Found a retirement article from November 2021. Calhoun said, “There is a very happy lady back home in Pomfret right now”. So, yep.

Don’t know where home is. If you are headed down the I95 corridor then Mystic and New Haven are great choices depending on what you like to do. If you are headed further west head over to the northwest corner of Connecticut say Kent Falls. Personally I was born and raised in Norwalk and my bride was from Stamford and we both worked at Greenwich Hospital so we would tend to stop there to see family and relive

I’ll add to the Middletown love, it’s a great place to live and a great place to visit. We have a 9-month-old and absolutely love taking him around town.

Breakfast at O’Rourke’s or cross the bridge to Sarah’s on Main in Portland, Coffee at Perkatory, take a walk down the harbor, your kid will love Amato’s toy store and RJ Julia bookstore next door to each other and there’s even a place called Kid City downtown.

Way too many lunch/dinner options to list here but Krust, Mondo, Celtic Cavern, Sicily and Whey Stationary are some of our favorites. Beers on the beach at Eli Cannon’s or a trip over to Stubborn Beauty/Spoke & Spy/Forrest City for brews, cider and a food truck.

Wesleyan’s campus is beautiful and very walkable with a baby in the summer, Wadsworth Falls is right there and there are a ton of trails in the area.
Red Fox has become a food destination.

Thanks, everyone. This is super helpful. We're still figuring it out but will report back!

Mystic is great option. I wouldn’t recommend new haven except for driving in to get pizza.

Branford is great tons of restaurants could even do a thimble island tour and go to stony creek brewery. Awesome center of town/green and restaurants

Guilford/Madison/Clinton are also options if you are looking for more laid back beach areas

Middletown would be further down list for me

There is way more than just pizza in New Haven. It's an amazing city.

Well aware spend 3 days a week there just not a place I would list as a place to stop/stay over a night in the summer when there’s much better options

Susan St. James, also a resident.

June 12, 2022. 7-miler. Once won by the legendary Bill Rodgers

GALLOW'S HILL

We aren't going to sugar coat it, Gallow's is a intensely steep hill right at the beginning of the last mile of the race, almost like a cruel joke. It's been rated #8 by Runner’s World Magazine in their list of the greatest, most daunting hills in U.S. races. It's the hill that made Olympian Bill Rodgers shift to ninth gear!

Love the shoreline towns. Big fan of Old Saybrook.

As far as Stony Creek is concerned… best brewery views in CT. Unfortunately, worst craft beer in CT.

Actually I believe that would be Senor Testicooley.
Considering Cooley is Italian American for butt, would testicooley be an amazing tuck job, all Silence of the Lambs style?

First brewery I went to on this trip was Witchdoctor and the bartender was talking about how s^^^ty the beer is at Stony Creek.

Spent the day in Middletown today. Surprisingly nice downtown. Wide boulevard and wide sidewalks that cover many blocks on main street. Restaurants everywhere with a bunch of ethnic food. I counted around 55 restaurants.

Yup 100% agree cant beat the venue but beer sucks. At least they have guest breweries beers available and wine for the ladies

Driving from ME to NYC will take you through Worcester to 90W to 84W.

Why anyone would spend extra time on 95 is puzzling to me.

With an 18 month old, do you self a favor and find a decent hotel with a pool and don't over complicate it.

Or do it in one trip if you are starting from the Portland area or south (downeast).
If you're on 95, you'd take 495 to miss Boston. 495 intersects with 95 near Foxboro (about 15-20 miles past 90). Or 90 to 395 from Worcester down to Norwich area. As long as you're planning to stop it's not that far out of the way. It's going to be a long day no matter which way they choose.
