My takeaway is that the Huskies have played 12 Quad 1 teams like….um, no other team on this list (note: that doesn’t mean there aren’t any) and that Paige does what she does against quality opponents

But, what does TS% mean?

True shooting percentage is defined as “a measure of shooting efficiency that takes into account field goals, 3-point field goals, and free throws”

Basketball reference.com has the formula for how it’s calculated, as well as other less common stats, in their glossary. It’s become a very popular metric to measure players efficiency in the NBA as well.

Not sure if anyone uses basketball reference.com but they actually have NCAA women’s stats on there and it’s very interesting. You can see lots of advanced stats and they have pages with top ten lists per conference, etc. It’s kind of like herhoopstats.com if anyone’s familiar, except last time I checked that one had a paywall over some pages, where Basketball Reference is all freely available.

Much appreciated

What are the numbers highlighted in green? Percentiles?

what is quad 1?
Using the quadrant system, which was in its fourth season in 2020-21, the quality of wins and losses will be organized based on game location and the opponent's NET ranking.

  • Quadrant 1: Home 1-30, Neutral 1-50, Away 1-75
  • Quadrant 2: Home 31-75, Neutral 51-100, Away 76-135
  • Quadrant 3: Home 76-160, Neutral 101-200, Away 135-240
  • Quadrant 4: Home 161-353, Neutral 201-353, Away 241-353
The number of Quadrant 1 wins and Quadrant 3/4 losses will be incredibly important when it comes time for NCAA tournament selection and seeding.

Note: this NET is for men so the formula for determining NET is different. However, the description of the quadrants is the same.

An example to clarify:
if a team plays the 1-30 ranked team in the NET at home, that’s a Quad 1 win.
If they beat the NET ranked 1-75 on the road, that’s also a Quad 1 win.
If the team beats a NET ranked 31-75 ranked team at home, that’s a Quad 2 win.

I guess the table has active columns. If you touch pts you get that order. If you press TS you get them listed according to that metric and then Paige would be at the top.

Paige is fourth lowest in minutes played in those 12 games with 31.6. The other three:

Iriafen - 29.3 minutes per game
Ejim - 30.4
Pili - 30.5
Paige - 31.6

Pili and Ejim also come off really well in terms of TS

Damn Paige is elite efficient. Looks like she plays a lot of good teams and steps her level up in those games as well. She’s currently a career 18.4% PPG and .637% TS. 12 games isn’t a huge sample but it’s more than the other players on the list have. We know she loves the big games though.

I’ll give you Ejim but Pili since going to Utah has been putting up numbers. That’s from inside, outside, and the foul line. She’s been a 40+% 3pt shooter at Utah.

Fair enough though I still think she takes most of her shots in the post area.

To explain TS a bit more fully. It tries to be a measure of scoring per shot. If all scoring were from field goals it is points/(FGA*2). So if you only took 2 point shot and made them all you would have a TS of 100%, 2/2*1=1, or 100%. If you only took 3s and made them all, TS would be 150%. The wrinkle is they add in foul shots and multiply those by .44, ( it would be .5 if you always got two shots, the smaller value captures the "and one"). So the formula is points/(2*(FGA + .44*FTA). Paige getting a TS of 70% means that every time she shoots you expect 1.4 points, or almost 3 points for every 2 shots.

All of that high tech stat stuff means nothing. The creator gets to feel some type of self gratification for his/her effort to be relevant
True shooting isn’t really high tech. Like most stats it’s easy to understand even if you can’t calculate it. With any stat though, watching the players and seeing how that adds up with the stats is what is important. I don’t care for all advanced stats either but this a pretty simple measuring stick for efficient players.

Agree with Jumper completely on the site. I wanted to add that regarding the free throws, it is not just the FT% but also how often you shoot them relative to other FG attempts that affects your TS%. In ballpark terms every two free throws (not exactly) is considered the same weight as a FG attempt, so as long as you shoot FT's at a higher percentage than FG's (effective FG %), your TS% will be higher, and the more frequently you draw fouls the more often your FT% is used instead of your effective FG%.

Because it uses all three shooting percentages and the relative frequency of each attempt (2Pt, 3Pt, and FT) it is considered the best single measure of shooting efficiency by many.

Didn't see it answered above but the green column next to TS% appears to be that player's rank. There are 100 players in the sample. Paige's TS% is second best so she is 99. Katie Dinnebier is best so she is 100.

Yes, but these stats are from weeks ago. UConn had only played 12 games and Dinnebiar's numbers were based on 3 games played.

I think these stats are only against quad 1 opponents.

Dinnebier has started and played in all of Drakes games but these stats are only against Iowa, Creighton and maybe Iowa State?

I like this stat, so I've added it t the "Stats per game" table in the Per-40 workbook, which I've just uploded here.

Page's TS% is now 73.1, Ashlynn and KK are 67.1% aand 67.3%. The whole team is at 63.9%, while the opponents are 47.5%
