Star Wars --- The Prophecy

No obvious sighting, but I think he's in the newest trailer too. Don't agree with that particular line of speculation.

Agree. Not if the timeline of the story holds to form as laid out online. Kylo is supposedly born after the battle of Endor no? I guess people are taking 'born' to mean, Luke 'born again' to the Dark Side.

Not showing Luke noticeably is a great way to build hype though. Gets people talking. Good marketing.

EDIT: Luke's got to be 50 years old or so in the latest movie, no? This guy doesn't qualify, unless The Force is keeping him young:

Love the look of this actor though.

I was debating whether it would be worth it to try to get opening night tickets. Just checked out the local theater and they still had seats for 12/17 at 7pm. Do I have to dress up?

The only answer is yes and the only outfit for you is the Princess Leia Slave Girl bikini. Good luck :)

Here's a fun piece that makes a pretty convincing case for ROTJ being a sucky movie... and it touches on my complaint about Obi-Wan and also points out Vader should have probably sensed/ figured out Leia was his kid too.

I dont really buy it either. But I wouldn't put it past JJ Abrams.
Really looking forward to this series. Going to blow the prequels out of the water. (well anything could, I guess. but anyway...)

What really sucks is that the prequels could have been amazing.

.-.
Also, the prequels were easy: no need to introduce Anakin. Start him as a Jedi Knight. Make us care about him and Obi-wan's relationship through two movies where they are doing awesome things as a team. None of this terrible political stuff (other than maybe some Palpatine-centered things). Instead, action adventure movies--somewhat in the Indiana Jones vein, maybe--where we give a crap about that relationship and maybe even the Anakin Padme stuff (which, obviously, has to be there as the transition).

That final preview was awesome. I have high hopes for these movies now. The way they weaved the score into the preview was perfect. For some reason just watching the X-Wings lock into attack position while skimming that lake was hair raising. I am real pumped. Not sure I'll end up going opening night because I'm not gonna wait hours to get into the theater but I'll be there night two for certain.

Now, if I was younger or childless I'd totally do what some AMC theaters are doing. Supposedly, the only one in CT doing it is in Danbury. They will be showing all 6 movies in a row leading up to the premier of the new Star Wars. That'd be awesome

Well you are hinting at something I stumbled upon. I got tickets for the opening for my wife and I. My wife is NOT a fan. She obviously saw the original trilogy as a kid, but doesnt remember much. And she NEVER watched any of the prequels. She says she wants to watch everything before the premiere so she can understand whats going on. I was wrestling with showing her them in episode order and release order as to which made more sense. And came across this:

Im gonna try "Machete Order" with her. It makes sense to me! Episode 1 never existed. Viewing order IV,V,II,III,VI

That's over complicating it. Just go IV - VI. Then show her the prequels with the caviat that "these are junk".

The star of the new movie is the son of Jar-Jar Binks, Jar-Jar Jar -Jar Binks.

For the nerds.

YouTube channel Science vs Cinema has seamlessly edited together the two teasers and the full length trailer we've seen so far to create a beautiful 3:40 supercut which starts to make sense of the story. Check it out below:

I bought 3 tickets for opening night at an old school theater in the Jersey burbs near my house. While it won't be IMAX, figure with my two boys, 9 and 5, it will be easier to navigate than the zoo that the big 16 screen theater at the mall in Paramus. I'll catch the IMAX version of it after work or during a long lunch break in NYC (Empire Times Sq IMAX or Lowes 34th St) a week or two after when it is less insane.

For those of you who hated Episode I, here's the actual reddit post and is most definitely worth a read: https://www.reddit.com/r/StarWars/comments/3qvj6w/theory_jar_jar_binks_was_a_trained_force_user/ Along with video cliff notes below. I'm all in and would love if it were true. YouTube Video

The thing is that even if it wasn't intended and jar jar was an attempt at toy sales or whatever, they could absolutely go revisionist with these interpretations and make it so.

Would be kinda hilarious

Did I ever tell you that Jar-Jar was in a barbershop quartet in Skokie, Illinois?

Vader was kinda dumb. Guy looks cool with his mask, suit and breathing sound effects but he isn't very bright. Guy believes all the Emperors awful lies, attacks Obi-Wan when Obi-Wan had "the higher ground" and lost big time, had Luke and company trapped with the stolen plans for the Death Star inside the Death Star and let them all go, failed multiple times in finding the Millennium Falcon only got them in the end because of Boba Fett, Emperor tricks Vader into turning Luke when in fact the Emperor wanted Luke to replace Vader. Vader is dumb.

I'm not sure he does believe all the emperor's lies...at least not in the OT. Certainly young angsty Anakin is a dumb idiot, but in Empire he out and out says that he wants Luke to turn so that they can kill the Emperor and rule themselves. And father-son relationship did appeal to Luke, at least a little, so it's possible that Vader hoped Luke would turn with him against Palpatine in ROtJ.

The other stuff, yeah. To be fair, though, it's a big galaxy and not unreasonable that he couldn't find one ship.

I always saw it as being warped by the Dark Side. He believes what his 'heart' wants him to believe, not his head. He's filled with irrational overconfidence in his own (and the Darkside's) abilities/power, instead of humbleness and truth.

To clarify, the Dark side thrives on the irrationality of emotion. The light favors the head and the control of that emotion.

Reactions out of LA have been near universally positive.

When Patton Oswald is coming out loving the film...

Is it impolite to say that I have a hard on? Didn't prebuy, so I'll skip the first couple days, but I can't wait.

And the fall of the old Jedi order seems to be in part due to their arrogance (the Sith are gone, whoops!) and going overboard against all emotion, including love. Passion for a cause and love for others can be a powerful tool when used in the right way.

Going to the 7 PM showing on Thursday at a small theater with my two young boys. Was afraid that the big local theater in the Garden State Plaza would have been just too insane. I'm excited; but, my youngest son is bouncing off the walls.

PS - I think for Episode VIII, the surprise will be that Supreme Leader Snoke's Sith name is Darth Trump.

This hits on another inanity of the prequels. George Lucas creates a religion or whatever that is all about absolutes. Boinking is not allowed, or at least boinking when coupled with long-term commitments, etc. Then Obi Wan tells newly converted Darth Vader that only siths deal in absolutes? Uh, okay. Lucas tried to make a political statement in his movies and dumped on his own world-making to do it. For the record, I m okay with using your own art to make a statement, but don't drop a deuce on past masterpieces to do it.
