OMG, by what reasoning has Stanford deserved to be #2?......All their great wins in the PAC 10?

IMO, they will not make it to Denver........Granted, they have several very good players that would struggle in the BE or B-12........

haven't we been over this? We started the year at 3 in one poll and 5 in the other. We've lost one game while teams ahead of us lost more, some of which some included losing to unranked teams. But imho, rankings matter little now as we still have to beat Cal on Sunday and in Pac 12 (not 10) tourney, to lock up the #1 seed.

They have only 1 loss and have beaten a few good teams. Their only loss was to UConn at UConn.

I think they are the 4th best team, but their record gets them the #2 ranking and rightly so in my view.

not only does Stanford deserve to be #2 in the polls, it's not even close. they are #2, and it should be by a wide margin over UCONN and ND. UCONN lost to unranked SJU, at home, on senior night - and SJU is a team with 8 losses this year. ND lost to a WVU team, also unranked, and also a team with 8 losses. while those losses never should have happened, they did. it's basically the rough equivalent of Stanford losing to Cal.

but Stanford hasn't lost to anyone besides UCONN, and therefore deserve to be #2 in the nation. frankly i'm surprised anyone still questions that. it's really a no-brainer.

It is what it is - you've got Baylor in the top spot and the rest of this year's Big 4 playing musical chairs for the remaing three spots, positions shifting from week to week. No new news.

You can make a case for Stanford, but I don't think it's a no-brainer by any means. The PAC-12 is very weak - if you go by Sagarin or any similar metric. In fact, St. Johns, Louisville, and West Virginia would all rank #2 in the PAC-12, as would Georgetown and Rutgers. (ND and UConn would rank #1.)

Sagarin, btw, would have UConn as a 9-point favorite over Stanford on a neutral court.

watch the Cal game on TV this Sunday. Cal would easily hang with any of the teams you listed above. And, I would take that 9 pts on a neutral court in a heartbeat.

I remember when the BE wasn't that strong and UConn was ranked #1 or #2. Other folks didn't think we deserve it either.

With one loss Stanford should be #2.

Maybe the pollsters meant something else when they said Stanford was number 2?

has Stanford lost to an unranked opponent? no. both UCONN and ND have. i don't care what the RPI or Sagarin or whatever says. Deleware has also played virtually no one. they beat PSU and lost to Maryland, but they are up to #8 now. it's the nature of polls.

do i think Delaware REALLY is the # 8 team in the nation? no. do i think UCONN would beat Stanford in a rematch? sure. but we lost to unranked SJU. we deserved to drop. that's what i mean by "no-brainer"...

Regardless of poll rankings, has the seeding committee progressed beyond not knowing who was the conference champion (or tied) a la UCONN & ND a few years ago ???

Some strange decisions come out of that room at NCAA time.

Totally Agree with Erics logic.

Sunday nights game, Stanford at Cal on FSN should be good. I think it is a 6pm Pacific start. Hope thats not too late for the east coasters.

yeah, it's a weird day and time for us. It's throwing a wrench into my plans, but I will be there for sure! It should be close to a sell out, around 10k fans.

Stanford has a super star that is playing great basketball, and her younger sister, who has at times has played better ball. Having two first team All-American caliber players certainly goes a long way in getting you a number 2 ranking, and possibly a number 2 overall NCAA tourney seed. Stanford had a close in-conference game, as did Baylor (vs. Texas Tech) and UCONN and ND both lost close conference games. Nobody, in my opinion, has truly separated as a dominant team that cannot be beaten by another good team like we have seen with some of the past (and probably future) UCONN teams. Baylor's close game against UCONN proved that a few shots here and there and the outcome would have been different.

I haven't gotten to see the Stanford guards since early in the year so I am not sure how much they have progressed. They seemed a bit slower than UCONN and had trouble with the traps that UCONN threw at them. But that could have just been from getting to learn to play together. It could have been that they were slow to react but not necessarily slower in foot-speed as it appeared.

I am hoping that all four top seeds make it to Denver. I want each to have its chance to play at least two of the others that they claim to be better than. When Baylor won the championship in 2005 they beat three number 1 seeds. They were given the chance to prove that they were better than all three teams and that they did. They didn't get to take on Tennessee as UT stumbled in to Michigan St.

Agree on both points...it's really that simple.
