Where does Tobacco Road start/end? Is it a toll road?
Starts in Winston-Salem passes through Durham and goes South to Raleigh. Interstates 40/85.... plenty of cheap cigarettes and chopped BBQ along those highways.

I watched them again today. They are truly awful. Coaching has been a major issue all season.

The current state of Stanford Women's Basketball really demonstrates what a great coach brings to a program. I cannot fathom this 9-6 record under Tara. Maybe she knew something was up last year and got out while the gettins' good.
We can speculate but can never know how different Stanford’s record would be if VanDerveer were still the head coach. The Cardinal had two exceptional AA’s last year in Brink and Iriafen plus outside threat Hannah Jump now all gone. This season’s roster has talent and potential - it could have and should have beat LSU in Baton Rouge - but lacks consistency and, it seems, a strong clear cut leader on the floor. Perhaps that leader is Agara? Here’s to hoping the team improves as conference season progresses.

Longer term can the new coaching staff land very top level prospects as they did previously when they got Brink, Haley Jones, Betts, Kiana Smith and the like?

Possible, but I do think that Tara could have this year's team looking much better (more organized) than they've looked under Paye.

Hard to rush to judgment. Paye is Tara's hand picked successor. Could be like Tenn, where hand picking did not work out, or they will figure it out.

Stanford basically can't take incoming transfers due academic barrier/transfer credit problems, but they can lose transfers out. I'm not sure what they are doing with NIL.

Current team reflects that reality.

They will still always get a top 5 hs recruiting class.

Wow, these giant league schedules are tough. Still in Jan they have Wake, Duke, Cal, Pitt. If they somehow went 3-1 in that stretch, at least they would still be in the hunt.

I do agree to an extent that it's too early to judge Kate Paye, but the early returns are not looking too good. Still, there are too many variables involved to pin it solely on her. I do attribute a good bit of the blame to her, though, as this is her program now. Barring a miracle finish, they will miss the NCAA Tournament this season. In the absence of major transfers out, I would expect them to make the tournament next season.

As for the bolded, they're clearly not doing enough if they lost Kiki Iriafen to Southern Cal and NiJaree Canady (softball) to Texas Tech.

To me, the best-case scenario for that schedule is 2-2, but 0-4 is possible.

Trees lost to NC State by 14 yesterday, despite a big rally. They are 9-7 and 1-4 in conference.

Looks like they have a couple of transfers this year. Mary Ashley Stevenson was at Purdue last year, and Tess Heal played 2 years at Santa Clara.

Kiki graduated and the Stanford grad programs are all tough admits; no easy 1 yr Masters. Hard to be upset for a kid who will have B.S. from Stanford in Design Engineering and a Masters from USC.

Kiki getting the most out of her free education.

We would look a lot better if we were playing Butler and Providence instead of each other ;)

You do know those are fighting words here in NC
Yes but what can I do, when it's not available where I live? :D

Well the women’s team will now know how the men’s team would feel. Since the men’s team “would be ecstatic to be playing two games in the NCAA Tournament”:rolleyes:

Except that she didn't need to graduate in three years and could have stayed a fourth, and the inducement to leave (purportedly) was an $800k NIL offer from U$C that Stanford either wouldn't or couldn't match. It all seems heart warming at the surface and I guess I don't begrudge her, but I respect people who finish what they started, and she's obviously left us incredibly high and dry this year.
