Stanford wins 74-71. Big game for Chiney with 27 pts and 18 rebounds. Stanford shot the 3 much like UConn did today, i.e. not very well.

Stanford pulled it out. 74-71.

It has been "underwhelming performance by elite teams Saturday". Maybe Baylor will be able to buck the trend against KU.

Chiney with a huge game - 27 points and 18 boards. Nneka didn't start? and neither did kokenis? that's what it says on the espn box score. and lindy laroque - 0-10 from the field, 0-8 from 3-point land.

Ignore the ESPN box score for a couple hours in terms of who started. Takes a while for them to get that right. Points-boards-assists are accurate.

Stanford is not that good this year, even with one loss. 3 players every game do all the scoring. If one gets into foul trouble or hurt they are in trouble. However, with USC's poor play lately only one other team can match or give Stanford a game, and that is Cal. By the way USC led today at Utah 17-0 and imploded to lose the game to a bad Utah team. Leading scorer for USC Briana Gilbreath didnt play, not sure why? She was in the last game at Colorado and fouled the Colorado player with 1 second left. Only Stanford and Cal will make it from Pac 12, IMO, unless someone else has a massive upset of Stanford in the Pac 12 tournament.

Implosion by USC. Oops! That sounds like a bad loss.

Thanks for keeping us informed on the Left Coast. I hope to be out there before the 2013-14 season.

I knew this would be a tough game even at Maples because Cal is good and they are a rival opponent, so anything can happen. They were the last team to beat us at home (2007). Also, Cal has lost to 4 ranked teams (including Stanford) by a combined 9 pts. They should be ranked, for sure. They are long, lean and athletic and play good D.

Starters were Nneka, Chiney, Tinkle, Orrange and Kokenis. Nneka was sick and didn't practice the last few days, but they played good D on her. Thankfully Chiney had a monster game with 27 its and 18 boards. wow! Strangely, Orrange only played 10 min and Tara went with Lindy L. who was 0-10 (0-8 3pt), a huge liability on D, and a horrible TO near end of reg. Also, Tinkle only played 16 min. after boarding well. Tara also took out Bonnie S. after she hit back to back 3's. too. Most Cardinal fans I know are scratching their heads. We are without Green, Camp and Ruef on the perimeter and now Boothe is out 4-6 weeks. so only 8 man rotation. I seriously doubt we can go far unless we start shooting better, and our frosh (Orrange, Bonnie and Taylor) get way better in 2 months.

We were up most of the game and I thought we'd end up winning because we were in better shape, esp O sisters. The officiating was the most bizarre I'd seen in a long time, which is saying a lot. Melissa Barlow was crew chief, who we affectionately call "Missy". She made calls there were not only wrong, but were made way of out position. On Cal's 9-0 run to end regulation, they were given FTs and possession twice that were very, very curious calls. And this was going on while murder was committed down low.

Overall, very gutty win since Cal had all the mojo going into OT. Game at Cal will be good, and probably Pac 12 game too.

outside shooting and perimeter D are our weakest links. Not having Camp and Green hurt big time.

Actually Oregon State gave them a scare at Stanford. Stanford had to come from behind at the half and only won by 7. And they needed a huge game from Nanika to do it. I think that would count as giving them a game. I do agree that they are not that strong this year and they may yet get knocked off in league play.

If nothing else, we have top teams facing competitive challenges. Hopefully, we will see more.

“The saddest thing for me is the fact it wasn’t on television,” VanDerveer said. “Here you have a packed house in Maples. We haven’t been on a Pac-12 broadcast yet. That would have been a great TV game to showcase the best players and the best teams. That’s the only thing I’ll say I’m not excited about.”

:) SARCASM WARNING:

Is this perhaps something to look forward to for UCONN supporters in the future (if minus CPTV)?

I wouldn't say the OSU was a scare. I never felt we'd lose that game, mostly because of Nneka, They couldn't stop her. Nneka was a bit off yesterday, but Chiney came through. Of course, the pt is we need more help in the perimeter to help the O sisters.

How sweet is it to have a player like Chiney to pick up the slack. Has there ever been a better sister combo? Maybe Pam and Paula McGee?

The McGee's helped USC to back-to-back NCs, so that's a tough act to top.
I see Pam's son JaVale McGee can play a little ball
