OT: St. Johns's MBB To Refrain from Postgame Handshake

Pitino is looking for an edge to beat…..Hurley. That simple. His team is gearing up for it and I hope we bring the same attitude or better. We are their Super Bowl, twice. This has nothing to do with any “ meaningless gesture”. I want us to be the team that plays with attitude against them and then after beating them line up to shake hands and if they walk away just stand there for a bit and watch them walk out of the arena before we go in.

I don’t really care either way. But I feel like nothing would change if they did get rid of it. It’s fake and forced and insincere.
I'll call bullshit on this one, that it is fake, forced, or insincere. I watch the line at the end of games, and there are always real interchanges; the respect between opposing coaches and players is very real. Almost always, there are players who know each other from prior interactions.

While laughing.

Personally, I love other coaches being petty and firey. It introduces a game within the game. This league needs more storylines and must market itself better. The more subplots, the more fun as a fan, the more eyeballs
My take as well. This is all stunt promotion. This is great for Pitino, great for St. Johns, great for the Big East and hence great for UConn.

Hurley is a fantastic promotor for himself and the UConn basketball program. He just does it differently. Keeping the program's name in the forefront of college hoops helps with recruiting and eyeballs. Geno was/is a fantastic promotor. JC promoted UConn as well although it wasn't his forte. I have to wonder if it played a role in his relationship with Geno and his perspective of Pitino.

Meh. Just like the NBA, guys can seek each other out and shake hands, catch up, etc if they want without being “forced” into it. Same as college (and pro) football. Guys who wanna interact will do so bc they want to. Most of the guys have never and will never see each other until they play again. And most losing players aren’t in the mood for forced interactions.

Well. You don’t watch every game. In fact you probably watch less than 1% of all games.

And in the games you do watch you definitely don’t see sincere real exchanges every time.

Germphobes? Poor sportsmanship? Or something else?
Maybe he wants to torpedo St John’s and the Big East, and wants prospective recruits to go elsewhere. Or maybe a UConn three peat is too much to bear.

What can one say other than Deepster is a Pitino fan and agrees that what he’s doing is great. Just said so apparently.

I never said that.

I think it's funny the counter argument is filled with rah rah hyperbole. If we get rid of The Handshake, all humankind will crumble!!!

You did. You said you were in favor of it and have been defending Pitino vigorously from the start. You made your bed, now sleep in it.

For what it's worth, in all CIAC high school games this season, teams shake hands before the game and not after. Thoughts? Seems odd, but maybe it just takes some getting used to.

Do BE teams still shake hands before games also? Believe this started right after 9/11 for some reason, but I may be incorrect.

What schools are you talking about? I watch a ton of college sports and I'm not seeing this all inclusive body type thing with the cheerleaders. Northeast schools aren't up to par with ASU and Georgia but they still look like cheerleaders.
LSU (my favorite) still featuring the traditional (classic that is) look.

Yes, to Rick he must think of this as a humiliation after beating. There still going to get the beatings no matter what he does. He should consider a new line of work like used cars or politics.
