St. John's Post Game Thread

This team peaked in December. Same issues on both ends (especially offense) has been repeated but no solution. I just think we are limited with our players - everything has to break right for this team to go far against top competition. As far as Danny, easily his worst coaching job in his UConn tenure. Players & the team never developed at all.
Pitino started the season with three relatively redundant shooters in the starting lineup (Jackson, sellers and Sanon) but adjusted and balanced it as the season went along moving Mitchell into the starting lineup and featuring much more of Darling.

Danny never really adjusted our lineup from what we knew we’re going to be the 5 starters despite playing our best basketball before we were fully healthy.

Men against boys.
Karaban didn't show up. Hopkins ate his lunch. It shouldn't be a 50 /50 proposition to inbound the ball. When Demary cuts in front lead him with a bounce pass.
Ejiofor destroyed Reed.
Mullins has lost his three. Turnover prone.
Solo Ball has lost his three.
Demary was slip sliding away.
Out hurried on the loose balls.
Three seed based on pre January OOC record.

I don’t want to hear another damn word about seedlings, about titles, or about being an elite team. We are talented. We are not elite. We are a good team. We are not a title contender. We don’t have an alpha. This team with AJ looks different. This team with Cam looks different. Shit this team with TN looks different. I am so freaking disappointed, not with the loss, but with how piss poor we looked. How it was obvious to a lay person that the opponent was playing harder than us. I cannot abide by that. I don’t mind losing. I hate losing when we are out hustled and out hearted.
Agreed. The 2024 team was arguably in the top 5 teams of all time. We had the right players and talent to optimize Murray’s euro style. This team edition never could figure it out it offensively. I’m very disappointed but I don’t want to come across as the typical Kentucky fan, meaning we’re entitled to a natty every year. The very recent program success has created an insatiable monster fan base.

The 23’ team lost 8 conference games, got smoked in the BET by Marquette, and won pretty easily.

I really don’t see much difference.

The fact people have watched this conference for the last 5 years and don’t get the fact that big east play has literally no impact on what we do out of conference and in the tournament is crazy to me.

We are the only team in the league that runs an advanced offense. We are also the only team in the league that is affected by the brutal officiating. It automatically creates a more even playing field. And that’s before the personal vendetta the stripes have vs Hurley.

No one in the NCAAs has experience playing vs our sets. No one in the NCAAs is built on playing borderline football and getting away with it like Big East teams are.

I genuinely don’t think we can lose to anyone but the top 5 teams. Feed me Purdue, feed me Ilinois. Feed me Nebraska. Feed me legitimately any other team but Michigan/Zona/Houston/Florida/Duke and we win in a blowout.
Smoked by Marquette? That was a much better BE.

We are absolutely not a team that can string 6 wins off, that I am confident in. Elite 8 ceiling.

Tarris is all that kept us in it for most of the game.

2024 would work if we had the right players. We have a shortish, non dynamic, cold shooting 2 that can't defend. We brought in a dude that looks 14 as our go to guy on offense, who is primarily a 3 pt hoister. We have a 4 who plays slow and unathletic, and is also primarily a jump shooter. This is just another lousy year of roster construction.
Well if you said it it must be true!

“If Mullins comes back” should not even be a phrase uttered anymore. They is NO CHANCE Mullins comes back, he is a sure thing first round pick, close to a high lottery pick. The delusion must end.
Will he go? Probably. Should he go? That’s the question. The guys that will be in his chest and running him off the three point line in the league will be grown men that are bigger, stronger, and more athletic than what he faced tonight. I think he needs to get bigger and stronger. Hawkins was a lottery pick and is coming off the bench. And I thought he was far more ready than Mullins is now.

Did anyone else see this early in the game..... SJU was off to a big lead and the TV camera caught Hurley crouching on the sideline and mouthing the words "we suck" to someone off-camera....we certainly did tonight.
Good he calls it like it is

Have fun at your parade you fn mopes.

Reed plays very hard. But how is it that’s he’s much bigger than Sanogo but a much less effective rebounder? His positioning and rebounding angles arent great. We got destroyed by offensive rebounds and second chance points among other things.

Player A - 11.6rpg per 40
Player B - 12.5rpg per 40

Who's who?

We outrebounded SJU 38-30 and had 17 offensive rebounds to their 8.

Did you hear the remark from Hurley to Reed in the huddle recently where he reminded Reed he had 11 rebounds but should have had 17? That applies.

Hurley does not make adjustments. And him putting Silas back in was moronic.
He does, but he will never be in Rick's class for in-game adjustments. I agree with putting Silas back in. Could have ended the season there.

Lol. You think we change our offense! Its the same offense. I guess you don't watch UConn much
