St. John's Post Game Thread

We can ABSOLUTELY beat these guys next time. We will not have all those turnovers and we WILL get more than 6 points from our bench. You can guarantee Pitino will bring 40 minutes of pressure again like he always does. Be prepared. More passing over the press, less dribbling. We must get the ball to out bigs (ok one big since Eric couldn't stay on the floor) or they will keep forcing us to pass it back to the top of the key. No more lazy passes. Ross and Stewie are fine playing weaker teams but it's time to step up when playing ranked opponents. You guys should fear being afraid all the time. Only one sub played more than 10 minutes. All others were such a liability Danny had to yank em and put the exhausted starters back in. Better to learn this in early Feb.
We were only down 5 with 53 seconds to go with all of the

Despite the stat line, continue to be pretty disappointed in Tarris this year. Felt like this could be his coming out party year as a starter. While he gets his stats, there is simply too much Ringling Bros that comes with it. He's simply not very reliable. His rap of inconsistency holds. I had really high expectations for him this year - and he's been mid. I had high expectations for him last night, and he gotten eaten alive by and undersized Zubi. If we don't go deep in the tourney this year, I tend to find his lack of elevating his game as a senior will be a big part of why.
You've been talking really reckless and crazy this whole year. This however is spot on. He just needs to relax and take his time is all it seems to be. More aggression from Solo as well. He can't just disappear, I want him attacking. The bench aren't scorers, but they gotta just play tough D and do the little things. Like I said earlier, look at how hard it is to beat us. When you look at that and chances are we won't play like this often or ever again, we're good. Of course we need to clean things up but we're good.

The sloppiness was caused by St John’s ball pressure D. Everyone keeps saying in forced errors but for the most part Johnnie’s forced us to play faster and play more one on one which isn’t our game and it led to 15 turnovers.
Well yes and no. It’s hard to say it was “all on us” yes - St John’s was allowed to play without whistles all game a very aggressive and handsy defense. Credit them. They played with intensity and kept pushing until a whistle was called - it rarely was…

Did that lead to 15 turnovers?

No, not entirely.

We played with carelessness. Did not make crisp passes, did not meet ball when we needed to and sometime just sloppy / uninspired play.

That was no credit to St. John’s, sorry…

So as with everything a mixed bag.

All we can do is learn from it.

I don’t think that type of game would have been allowed NCAA tourney which is why Big East teams aren’t taken seriously in the NCAA tourney - except for us.

I underestimated Pitino.

This is the third consecutive StJ’s win over our beloved UConn. Three in a row is not a fluke.

Any idea when Pitino retires?

If 3 is not a fluke then what is 4?

A solid 20 minutes from this point but 2nd half was basketball they wanted. They attacked the glass with impunity and we did not box out well. They schemed against our shooters and let Reed be with Zuby. Pitino game planned this a little better than Hurley I think.
Did you really pummel two St. John’s fans?

Aside from the game, how awful was Gus to listen to last night?
Can’t stand Johnson’s way of announcing. He try’s to make everything so dramatic and stagy. We can’t be bored as a viewer so just call the game and throw in some anecdotes to lighten things up and let your color guy do his thing.

Agree with you on Gus and lead announcing overall. It’s just awful most of the time. I have to turn down the volume. Let us hear the crowd and the background sounds of the arena. The color guys are good, like Jim Jackson.

Last year he was more reliable, not sure what happened.
Tarris needs to put in the work, his free throws are unacceptable. Sanoga, samson and donovan all had struggles but by the final year they were extremely reliable. I was confident when they went to the last ne. He has zero confidence and just hoping. Put in the work now big fella

Didn't get to hear last night's call but yea Gus is washed, was one of my favorites back when he was on CBS but he became a cartoon character when he signed with Fox. Can't just call a game straight, he has to put this zany schtick on for the entire duration of a game.

Why can't our Biggs keep their hands up in the post. They're defending with their hands down and then when their opponent goes to shoot the ball, they bring them up at the last minute out of control and foul. can't our Biggs keep their hands up in the post. They're defending with their hands down and then when their opponent goes to shoot the ball, they bring them up at the last minute out of control and foul. The ball is going up towards the rim so get your arms in your hands up there and quit swiping down.

The meltdown on this board is humorously epic

I think the board needed this loss more than the team to get ready for March

He said “Don’t touch that dial”. Enough said.

You can’t win a national title if you turn the ball over 18% of the time and miss 1/3 of your free throws.
Too much fouling. The percentage doesn’t matter when the other team has 3x the opportunities.

RuffRuff logic.
I would say I wouldn't weigh it that much because it was Pitino's first year in from Iona. Did you expect him to put a roster together that cold beat that Uconn team?

We are weighing wins with Mike Anderson and Pitino's first year in.
