Dans teams playing tight in close games is a running issue. Dan thought he had everything figured out and is shocked that things have changed and he needs to do something different. He did not expect his portal guys to evaporate offensively but they have. Was Newton sick? Our 3 ball shooting was overrated and we have no consistent drivers or mid-range shooters. As someone pointed out we give inside to Sanogo then abandon that side of the court. Leave a player on that side so he can pass out easier. Clingan up high getting called for fouls on screen sets. Put him inside and make them guard him there. Did he have a shot today? Ridiculous. Not scoring is our biggest issue. After that the poor man D on the guards. We aren't scoring enough and better find a way. I hope the reporters find out what was going on with Sanogo getting T'd by the ref. Very strange as he just gave a couple word answer to a question from the ref.

Hurley hasn’t won a damn thing and it’s year 5, and just got exposed for the incomplete coach he is. He simply can’t manage a game and lacks the emotional maturity to recognize his approach won’t get him over the top.
Yea let’s just hire Matt McCall who can’t even answer his own McCall.

One silver lining: this game has made our #1 offseason priority crystal clear:

An immediate impact point guard (like Souley Boum at Xavier or Terry Roberts at Georgia).

Also, in a way, I'm exciting that our next game is against another physical team. We need to regroup and show we can win against not very skilled, but tough as nails teams.
Corey Floyd jr and Gaffney > Newton and Alleyne.I said it last spring I said it early season this year and got killed for it and I’m saying it now.

Also for all those saying Hurley isn’t a good coach whatever, remember we were unranked team to start the year. We got hot, then now are having trouble adjusting our defense to the amount of fouls being called (which I would say is half our fault and half the refs). We’re also in a shooting slump, even from the FT line. Also, 3 of the losses are against ranked teams in hostile road environments. Give the team a chance to adjust and maybe then start calling for Hurley’s head or whatever.
That was all ok before today. Now, we have officially gotten blown out at home to a mediocre St. John's team. The excuses are no more.

imagine if we got marcus carr from texas. I think he's averaging 15+ ppg and is getting lots of assists and some rebounds. texas is def top 25 team with him now

probably not true, but regardless, those guys didn't want to be here. I'll take the guys that wanted to be here.
They were told they were being recruited over. No one wants to recruited over in this day and age.

Besides that they were both Hurley recruits. What did he do for them to not want to be here?

The start of this season was historically good. And now that teams are doubling Sanogo and playing off Jackson we are helpless. Coachin “gmalpractice. There is clearly enough talent in this team, even though we do have 1 big flaw. The team seems to play tight in close games and high leverage situations, really throughout Dan’s tenure. Wonder why.
Ollie wasn't even in the ballpark. Hurley is threatening to make UConn what they used to be, but those threats come up empty when the hits the fan.

We have players hot dogging and hitting the rim when all that was needed was to drop the ball in the basket. Foul shooting was pathetic. Foul causing was beyond pathetic.

You sounded crazy in early spring and you still do now. The guy who can barely get on the court for PC/has scored 3 points in BE play and the guy averaging 5/2 for FAU are the answers to our problems? We probably have 2-3 more loses right now if you make that trade.

Interesting point.

I can’t find much logic in it but love to read your reasoning to that.

Gaffney would give us a pass-first PG while Floyd would be an intriguing long-term piece?

Floyd D’s up as hard as alleyne and has more offensive upside long term.

Gaffney quicker than slow footed Newton. And pass first is a good thing considering Newton was a lead guard for a crap team and now doesn’t know what he is. We are just scratching surface here.

Those guys suck. I watched a lot of Alleyne and he had some huge games against top competition as did Newton but it was for a cr@ppy team. They aren't nearly as bad as they're playing. Again, I look at coaching.

I guess my only rebuttal to that is that there’s no way to know if either guard would have stayed prior to UConn adding Newton/Alleyne, but aside from that, I respect your take on that even though I’m not sold on it.

I missed it the first time, and I'll ignore it now. Bring it back a third time, and I'll give it a closer look.

For now, I'm skeptical.

For context, I called on others to cheer for Jalen rather than criticism, and I was among those shocked when Corey announced for the portal.

Correspondingly, I've posted my dislike that Newton doesn't attempt to draw shooting fouls often enough to prove right his detractors who say he's incapable detractors of doing so.

And I'll just spitball that >85% of Alleyne's shots are of the ill-advised, poorly-chosen type that marked the most frustrating aspects of the past 2-3 years.

That gives you some room to be right, but I'm still skeptical.

The secret has been out for a while. We can't change the personnel on our team. It is what it is. Newton, Diarra, Alleyne and Joey are here to stay. We have more than enough talent to beat SJU at home 90% of the time if we're coached well.

So why aren't we changing the way we approach the game?

Nix the extended pressure and play a pack or even a 2-3 to protect guys from foul trouble. We're getting beat at the rim every game and doing nothing to change our Xs and Os to stop it.
The definition of insanity is real.

I’m not sure what you mean here Hans and I also admire you’re colorful vocabulary in reading your posts.

My point was ultimately, the “leftovers” all proved to be pretty useful players in one form or another. And the best of the group (Adams and Vital) are better guards than anyone afterwards. They were the best playmakers by far of the bunch who could get any shot they want. Sans Bouknight again.
Yeah, but here you're arguing with yet another new angle. Even a tolerant, open-minded guy with a sense of humor can recognize & decline to play whack-a-mole.

Does anyone have a link to the post game presser with audio? The one posted by "UConn Huskies" on YouTube and the one on the official Facebook both have no audio.
Thought it was just me

Yeah because CFJ has made such an impact lol.

Let me say this....the Shabazz led 2014 team, the Kemba Walker led 2011 team, the Emeka led 2004 team, and the Khalid El Amin led 1999 team....all of those teams would have made mince meat out of this current NIT destined 2023 St John's team.

Anyone agree?
