Hard not to agree with you Huskymaniac - when the squid is reigning supreme, the purity of college sports is all but lost. Not that it's been what it was in ages, but when this machine takes control, it's all but at ground zero. John Calipari building dominance is simply bad for the sport. It gets to the point where if you want to accept this as being ok, you might as well just go to pro sports. When Duke was doing it, there was more innocence to it. Yes, they felt elitist because of it and it attracted plenty of despise, but they were attracting kids there for mainly the right reasons. Academics, culture and the experience being some of that. To some degree, that evokes some jealousy, which is natural in being a sports fan. I'm not jealous of the squid or Kentucky. I just think they're a cancer as far as what they represent and boring may be the best word to describe what they bring to the table. It may be fun for one year as an outlier, but to see it over and over just gets downright boring. Whereas I would tune in to watch Duke lose and get entertainment in that, I simply don't care what happens to Kentucky. There is nothing interesting at all about what they are - a hick school with a purchased figure head who lures inner city kids in by preaching the one and done dream. North Carolina had a nice run recruiting too, but not like this and not advertising the one and done as a selling point. Very few of those kids blew out in one year, their NC team was a group that banded together and stayed another year to win one. Do you think that would EVER happen in Kentucky?
As for the hillbilly who came on, Calhoun ain't perfect, but at some point if you want to compete, you have to try and keep up with the Jones'. Jones = Calipari.
