The only thing you can hope is that the turnover is so high that most of the teams never develop enough chemistry to win the whole thing. When your team is a bunch of one year guys every season, you need to have some truly great players, like Anthony Davis, to make it happen. Hopefully the guys he gets don't all turn out to be that good because I can't stand the guy winning.

Well considering Wiggins is the best recruit since LeBron apparently and he will be surrounded with elite talent... uh oh.

I have to admit that it is becoming tougher and tougher to remain FANatical about the game. If my love for UConn basketball wasn't so deep, I probably would be moving on to some other interest.

Frankly, the squid has made a mockery of college athletics. And, at the same time, he has made himself way too difficult to beat. No, he won't win the champsionship every year but he will win at a rate not seen since wooden's UCLA teams. And, honestly, that is both discouraging and boring.

And this one-and-done thing has gotten out of hand. I'm not really happy we took Drummond last year because, let's be honest, UConn is a university, not a d-league program. I am ok with kids jumping after 3 years as they can easily come back and finish their degree. If they are as advanced as, say, Okafor was then they would even be close enough after 2. But these kids should not be going to college unless they intend to get within a year of their degree. Sometimes there will be extenuating circumstances. But to load up a team every year with 6 new kids that have no intention of graduating is a farce, period.

The only way to fix this is to go back to much tougher entrance requirements. If a kid is not serious about academics, let him jump to the NBA or the d-league out of high school. And the NCAA should monitor every kid that is an academic redshirt. They should get his full transcript to make sure the classes are real and his grades are decent or they should force him to redshirt another year or move on. The alternative of a 2 year rule would only make the squid stronger. Another rule that could limit the squid's evil is to dock a scholarship for every kid that left the program who wasn't within a year of graduation and didn't transfer and enroll at another 4 year college. Maybe you could even dock the scholarship for two years if he wasn't within two years of graduating.

I would rather see college basketball "degrade" in quality to the level of college baseball than see this situation continue.

^ Imagine that! Talk of the Squid and the moron shows up. Big Surprise!

"Frankly, the squid has made a mockery of college athletics. " -moron

And the same argument could be made about your former coach. But I guess that is a matter of opinion. You know what they say about opinions? They're like Huskymaniacs, everybody has one! :D

Had to post it twice to remove any and all doubt of your inferior intellect?

So you are saying Calhoun made a mockery of college athletics? I want to make sure the moderators of this board are clear on what you are saying here. And if you were surprised that I wouldn't add my opinion to a thread STARTED BY SOMEONE ELSE about the squid, you are even more of a retard than I thought. I have him nailed and my avatar is an insulting, disrespectful image of him. That kills you. I'm happy it does, so I will continue doing it. I will chime in on every single thread about your hero just to piss you off. It is nice to see that I am still firmly camped out in your low functioning head. Do you know what you can do to stop the pain? Do it. That would be awesome.

The same can't be said about our coach Clothy but nice reach nonetheless. 2 different people, coaches and backgrounds - yours was a cheatass who recruited as an assistant with blatant lies and then turned his back on your program when the grades and jewerly all went wrong, ours won national titles and texted a few extra times.........now go have another reach around with your best male friend and stay on your own board. You're becoming a nuisance again!!

Shouldn't it say something that you have well over one hundred posts and you have no "likes"? Apparently you've had zero takes in your tenure.

Ok, Ok! He didn't make a mockery of college sports, just the NCAAs rules. Maybe that's why they got such a hard on for Uconn

You obviously have a hard on for a winning board too as you enjoy your time here........you need to get a bit more detailed if you are to argue this. You're lost and a dope for sticking up for the cheat who ruined your mid major program..............Give me your "ncaa rule infractions" for JC and let me know how many banners they took down for those.......then let's talk! !

It dosnt matter Uconn NEVER had a chance to get the Harrison twins so this topic is irrelevant. It seems like every time Coach Cal lands a blue chip recruit there's a post about it and then all the hate about him comes out. Im really starting to feel like a lot of people on here are should I say jealous that he can get a flock top kids and Uconn doesn't get those crazy recruiting classes. Look at his recruiting classes since 2007 dating back to Memphis it is Freaking Insane! As much as a Uconn BBall fan I am I have to tip my cap to Cal for being the best recruiter in college basketball history.

Hard not to agree with you Huskymaniac - when the squid is reigning supreme, the purity of college sports is all but lost. Not that it's been what it was in ages, but when this machine takes control, it's all but at ground zero. John Calipari building dominance is simply bad for the sport. It gets to the point where if you want to accept this as being ok, you might as well just go to pro sports. When Duke was doing it, there was more innocence to it. Yes, they felt elitist because of it and it attracted plenty of despise, but they were attracting kids there for mainly the right reasons. Academics, culture and the experience being some of that. To some degree, that evokes some jealousy, which is natural in being a sports fan. I'm not jealous of the squid or Kentucky. I just think they're a cancer as far as what they represent and boring may be the best word to describe what they bring to the table. It may be fun for one year as an outlier, but to see it over and over just gets downright boring. Whereas I would tune in to watch Duke lose and get entertainment in that, I simply don't care what happens to Kentucky. There is nothing interesting at all about what they are - a hick school with a purchased figure head who lures inner city kids in by preaching the one and done dream. North Carolina had a nice run recruiting too, but not like this and not advertising the one and done as a selling point. Very few of those kids blew out in one year, their NC team was a group that banded together and stayed another year to win one. Do you think that would EVER happen in Kentucky?

As for the hillbilly who came on, Calhoun ain't perfect, but at some point if you want to compete, you have to try and keep up with the Jones'. Jones = Calipari.

And you are certain that nothing illegal is going on? I have no evidence, but if it walks like a duck, talks like a duck, etc. ...

Well...since Wooden, right? And we now know....

Exactly! People who say the squid probably doesn't cheat any more because he doesn't have to seem to be forgetting Wooden and his years at UCLA. He really didn't need to cheat either, by the same logic...or did he.........

Cal still needs to cheat. He was not the only person cheating when he was with UMass and Memphis. Likewise, there are still others coaches who cheat. If Cal was not paying kids (or giving other impermissible benefits), they would likely sign with a coach that was. These kids (the Knights, Walls, Kidd-Gilchrists etc.) know they are going to the NBA after one year. They don't need help from Cal or anyone else. If some guy from Baylor or Texas comes along and slips them a check for $50,000 for 1 year of their services while Cal sits back not cheating because he's at Kentucky and doesn't need to cheat anymore, guess where they're going. Probably not Kentucky.

I think eventually Calipari will even get bored with landing 5 of the top 10 every year and move on. Or maybe the NBA will realize they are killing college hoops after a couple more KY championships with 5 one and dones. Until then it will be a bore....hopefully in 2013 UConn can be a team that slays a loaded KY team in the finals...otherwise Final 4's will have to do.

Calipari might get bored, but the NBA couldn't care less about how their rules impact the college game.

mauconnfan- you are 100% incorrect. What makes you think I am this big Calipari fan? I am a Umass fan. John Calipari hasn't coached here in 17 years. I could care less what goes on in Kentucky but since the moron jumps on everything remotely connected to Umass including Calipari I feel compelled to bitch-slap him. And all this chatter about the way he recruits and academics over here comes from glass houses. I suggest you stop the finger pointing and work on your own problems. You got a fresh start with Ollie. Get over it! Let Kentucky be Kentucky.

"blah, blah, blah...I feel compelled...blah, blah, blah" = I am deeply rooted in your head and haunt you every time UConn wins or Calhoun gets an award. You are *MY* bitch.
