Should be another loaded roster. Surprised they're not in the f4 every year with half their team being NBA players.

They've been in the last 2 and will be a favorite to get there again

And he's been there, what, 3 years? The year they missed, it was E8, and West Virginia beat them despite not hitting 2-point FG in the first half.

Assuming he's not cheating (which I don't think he is), it takes all of my will to not say the following words, which I almost always avoid saying, as it smacks of the whinistry that ails us all, and it diminishes the accomplishments of those who have done better than me, but . . . it's almost . . .

not fair.

Of course, it is. It's perfectly fair. He's got it worked out. He's the guy who first figured out how to use a stick to hold food over the fire, rather than his hand. He's the guy who figured out to put intermittent wipers and cup holders in cars. He's the guy who first printed the tag information directly on my T-shirts, rather than on an irritating tag.

He figured it out - the sales pitch: Come to a great, established program where our one goal is to get you exposure and groom you for the pros. And now, he's reaping his lush harvest.

And here's the part that really, really sucks.

If this SOB decides he wants to stay in college ball for another 15 years or so, he's going to be viewed as the greatest coach of all time, because he'll bring in 6 or more titles in that stretch.

Worse?

Kentucky fans will be validated. Which is like your ex breaking up with you and ending up with a star athlete, while you end up single and fat.

Damn it.

There was a time (2004-2009) where UNC pulled in pretty much any major recruit they wanted, even more than one of them played the same position. There was a time where Duke was doing the same thing. While they have titles to show for it (and so does UK), it's all cyclical.

Eh, don't forget, he's not a great game coach. Don't forget that Kendall Marshall broke his arm last year, that UK didn't play a number one seed. They can be beaten. Even in 2011--they were a 4 seed. Their regular season wasn't great and they needed a layup to beat Princeton in the first round.

Players like Anthony Davis come around once in a generation. Kentucky will continue to be good. They will get to another Final Four. And they might win another title. But lots can happen--and lots will happen.

To address this point: I agree. I think he cheated at UMass. I think he cheated at Memphis. Why would he need to cheat at UK?

But if he is...the NCAA has come down on UK a couple times in the past. It would be nice... :)

I agree, I do think he works in an extreme grey area, even more so than anything Calhoun ever did. I'm sure there are some "after you graduate/leave..." talks going on, but nothing against the rules. Most of the guys who help him out (e.g. rappers, WWW, etc.) do not have any ties to UK which makes things a lot easier.

Sure, for the most part it is the cycle of college sports, however, those teams had a few good runs then lost their team to the NBA and fell down for a few years. Coach Cal is disgustingly (in every sense of the word) reloading. We have never seen consistent recruiting at this level which is why it's alarming to me as well. The closest thing I can relate it to is Saban in football. If these two guys stayed at their respective schools for the rest of their careers it would be ugly and depressing for the rest of us as sports fans.

not one,not two, not three, blah blah blah! lets just hand uk the next 5 national championships now and not even show up till squid retires. the best teams usually dont win the national titles. its the hottest team going into the tourney that usually comes out on top. who did uk exactly have to beat this year to win the national title? didnt they get knocked off by vandy in the sec tourney? the same vandy team that went out in the first round

I tend to agree. As a sports fan I hate it. For the same reasons I hate how the Yankees always manage to buy a few extra good players and the top soccer teams (Barca, Chelsea, ManU, Madrid) get richer every year. The one mitigating factor is that baseball and soccer are hard sports to dominate. Basketball's not so hard, but the one and done nature of the NCAA tournament make it pretty crazy. So there's some leveling of the playing field. But it's hard to offset a top 2 recruiting class every year. The only thing that will likely stop Calipari are if (when?) sanctions come down like in Memphis/UMass.

This would have been the greatest day in recruiting for either SMU or Maryland. Ever. For Kentucky it ended up just another day. That's what makes me a bit sad as a sports fan. It should not be this routine.

So which twin will end up unhappy?

Every year or so, there's a set of twins and they're the same player with the same game and they go to the same school....only one twin, maybe the one who got to the teat first, is usually a lil better than the other and that instantly relegates twin #2 to effectively become his backup. A kid won't commit to a school if they have a recruit of the same ability on the roster and yet twins run off this cliff all the time.

So, here we go again, a set of wondertwins has committed to the same school yet again. Which one will become the 'other guy'?

Not even like this, though. This is ridiculous.

Well if there's any truth to the Sun Times report that Cal paid 200k to secure A Davis's commitment I would say that counts as cheating. Cal has 2 strikes and one more vacated season and he is done with college ball for good. I want the snake out of the game

for those of us that remember the squid at UMASS, MEMPHIS, remember the old saying, a leopard never changes his spots, and KU has had a checkered past re: recruiting, unscrupulous conduct. I still think that sooner or later the dirt will come to the surface. Maybe not this year or next, but wait for it.

The possible difference with these two is that (apparently) one is a true point guard while the other is a true shooting guard. So in theory, they wouldn't have to really compete with each other for time.

The scary thing is UK can offer up to 7 scholarships this year I believe. 1 graduating senior and 6 players could leave for the NBA: Noel, Harrow, Goodwin, Poythress, Caulley, or Wiltjer. Its safe to assume at least 4 of those guys will go. I also think its safe to assume that Randle and Young will commit to UK. I don't want to see it, but how crazy would a Harrison/Harrison/Young/Parker/Randle lineup be? Of course though, Parker is coming to UConn to slay the beast that is UK in the FF.

Parker has already eliminated UK, but its not like they really need him anyway.

They won't get Parker but they'll probably get Wiggins, who a lot of people say is better than Parker anyway.
