Sport gambling, where do you stand?

You're looking at it wrong. I don't guarantee 1 loss. I guarantee 1 win. I dont do it for every sporting event for my favorite teams _ just the ones that are bigger.

I bet a small amount once on a Big East game. It changed the entire way I watched a game. It took all
of the enjoyment out of watching as a fan and the excitement of the game. Never repeated that choice. I now find the constant betting advertisements (like watching a Yankee game) disgusting. I was watching baseball games below the age of 10 and can still remember the beer commercial jingles so it does get into your head. The thought of young kids having gambling drummed into their heads is sickening to me.

And when you see the people who look the poorest in the gas station/convenience store buying a lot of scratch tickets at ridiculous odds you realize that tax and spend governments will prey on peoples weaknesses like addiction (cigarettes, alcohol, gambling etc.) you realize how far we have come. Very sad.

I’m somewhat convinced we’re seeing that quite a bit. Mac Jones short armed a wide open last second 10 yard TD pass by about 6 yards once this season and killed my parlay.
 
I think it is the reason why the officials missed no fewer than ten calls in the last two minutes of an nba game a few nights ago. The nba had to make a statement to show some type of proactive response. There is too much money riding on these games and at a time when material things seem so important there is no way that some of these officials will get compromised. It is a risk reward….and they also know the last thing the nba or nfl wants to admit is a product that is rigged. So they will find a scapegoat and one person will pay for it. The odds excuse the pun are in their favor….take the money and run when it’s time.

I love sports wagering. Unfortunately, I found out about 30 years ago (well before it became legal most places) that I sucked really bad at it, so I stopped. A while ago I thought about giving it another go...starting with some 'imaginary' bets...and confirmed that I have gotten no better at it, so I'll just take a pass on that.

I don't get why you think my take is "wild." I just don't need money on the game to be invested.

OT. I have always liked the handle "Mr French." It can go one way to the family friendly show of the 1960s. Or the other way, to the sexual practices of the country know for its perversions. Love the ambiguity.
 
I love gambling. I've been taking it pretty seriously for a while. Mostly I play poker (I play at Mohegan Sun regularly) but I do bet and gamble on the legal apps in CT. I only play when I have an advantage, which is often enough given all of the promotions FanDuel and DraftKings do.

Betting on sports is fun. I would love to get better at it. It definitely helps me feel engaged by games that I don't have much interest in otherwise. I don't typically bet on UConn games but I've done it a few times.
 
I did pretty well betting UConn during last year's tourney. It got to a point where I just knew we were going to roll teams.

I am trying to figure out some nuances and I dabble with VERY low amounts…but I’ve taken multiple breaks for years because at certain points I just determine “I am either the most cursed gambler ever or I just suck.” Either way, no recipe for success.
 
I used to do little Fanduel bets of like a dollar or something back when I was in the US and the current gambling laws weren't yet in effect. It got me to watch a lot of sports I never would have cared about, so that was neat.

If I was in the US now, I might be betting small amounts on things other than UConn.
 
Don't bet on anything and like you I already have too much juice in UConn games, including the women. It also extends to hockey, baseball and unfortunately football. Funny one of my first jobs was at Phil Bakers in Norwalk and we looked forward to those football cards every week. I also don't remember anyone winning. We also used to go to Aqueduct and the waiters taught us how to bet on horses. Never won anything there either! I still like a good Friday night poker game. Last I would throw in the effect of Fantasy leagues. They too juice up interest

Its already happened. guy in the gallery bet on Steph curry to win a celebrity golf event. When his competitor, Mardy Fish was teeing off, fan disrupted the backswing and Fish hit a bad shot. Fan admitted he bet on curry

I’m pretty good I’d say. Especially when I stay disciplined and don’t chase parlays. Football and baseball seasons are my specialties. I’ve had +76u and +83u months in the fall.

But January has been so bad I may tap out on the NBA until playoffs when there’s less variance on how guys should play. I don’t dare touch cbb outside of UConn.
 
Gambling is a tax on the stupid. There's a reason casinos can afford those big beautiful shiny buildings.
Having said that, very small wagers on games makes em more interesting.

My buddy won a million dollars on a 20.00 entry fantasy tourney this year. Plus a paid trip to a champions tourney later in the year.
 
It's harmless fun if you:
  • know the math and what you're getting into
  • play the promos (so you make money over the house in the long run)
  • bet on things you know
  • can afford it and set appropriate limits

The constant ads are a bit cringe, like advertising the lottery, because they're generally targeting people who don't fit the criteria above.
