South Carolina at Maryland tonight.
We play at Maryland on December 11 at 3:00 on ABC.

Will Maryland be competitive tonight?

I doubt this will be a competitive game, but we’ll see. UMD lost a lot but gained a lot. The question is how well have Brenda and the team incorporated the new parts.

The question is, is Reese healthy? She hurt her repaired knee in the last game. Will she be 100%??

Miller is slated to play; whether she’s 100% is anybody’s guess.

Not taking any game for granted - especially against a traditional power like Maryland with a proven coach. However, the portal losses mixed with portal gains create an unprecedented situation. As Tennessee fans have discovered, it's hard to instill TEAM into any collection of newcomers this early but maybe adrenaline will prevail. Brenda has had a lot of work to do in the short time this group has been practicing.

Maryland has always been associated with offense in my mind. Brenda has not had time to intal her scheme with this group,

With al that said, they'll prolly beat us.

The superstitious part of me hates that we made another scouting thread for a top 25 matchup. The last one didn't bode that well for the higher ranked team.

Last year’s matchup made me more nervous. The key will be running them off the 3-point line and force tough two pointers. I would put Beal on Meyers and make it tough for her to get anything. They play all guards so we should be able to completely own the boards and I would like to see us run all game long off misses and makes. I expect them to completely pack the lane.

You guys have nothing to worry about unless you shoot 33% like last year. Also, the Gamecocks had a 61-35 rebound advantage and all of the major player return.

South Carolina, let's meet your opponent. The Maryland Terrapins;

Diamond Miller banged her knee in the first quarter against George Mason. Before that, she was outstanding in the game. Hitting threes, driving to the hoop. Everything.
Abby Meyer is the star of the team so far. The way she has been shooting during preseason and against GM, we have forgotten all about Benzan She's been outstanding.
Lavender Briggs has talent but hasn't played as well as I know she can. But she is a good three point shooter
Bri Alexander is a solid player but has potential to do more.
Faith Masonius is not 100%. But she plays so hard and is a coach on the court, yelling instructions to her teammates.
Shyanne Sellers is a talented player. If she can consistently hit her perimeter shots, she's dangerous. Also an elite defender like Beal.
Briana McDaniel is the surprise of the team so far. She is also a very good defender but she has been the 2nd best outside shooter for the Terps so far which has been a surprise.
E Pinzan is a coaches PG. Knows how to run the offense and rarely makes mistakes. Great passer.
Gigi Cooke. I guess we'll have the battle of the Cookes tonight. She is the backup PG and is a good one. Very, very fast, knows how to stay in front of her defender and loves to drive to the basket. Future star for the Terps.

Deep bench: freshmen Mila Reynolds and Ava Sciolla. Reynolds may get some minutes because of her size.

The Terps will go 9 deep. Maybe 10 with Reynolds.

Great primer. I forgot about Meyer. This will be entertaining. Wonder if the weather will dampen the crowd

Watching today's South Carolina vs Maryland game. Abbie Myers lighting it up for Maryland and South Carolina just crushing Maryland on the offensive boards. That's the game changer. SC has so much team size they just crush opponents on the boards. Our best chance against them might well be going with size. A recent sequence they just had 5 offensive boards in a row, on top of the previous possession where they scored on an offensive board. Amihere is 6' 4" with leaping ability, Boston, Cardosa, Saxton and freshman Ashlyn Watkins who can dunk with anyone. Tremendous size.

If Meyers was getting any help from the rest of the Terps, South Carolina might be in trouble. No Diamond Miller.

Not very entertaining imho. Too much 1-1 for MD. Too slow pace for SC

This South Carolina team remains an eyesore on offense and yet the overwhelming title favorite. Kind of a bummer for basketball aestheticians.

If Maryland would play a zone against UCONN .. Azzi , Caroline, and Lou Lopez
could have a field day. South Carolina has the talent, but if Maryland proves
that South Carolina still can't hit threes it could be an interesting year for the Gamecocks.

MD might want to work on getting cutters to go along with the dribble drive. Dribbler has no outlet and the lane is W I D E open!

Their size is too big for anyone to contend with. Playing Aliyah Boston and Kamilla Cardoso together is simply unfair.
