As long as you stumble forward consider it progress. Ugly wins count too!
Everyone knew Fletcher was a bridge at point due to to Johnson’s injury, but I’m a little surprised to see how completely she’s been sidelined even in big regular season games. I don’t have a problem with it, as I think RJ could become the best backcourt player in program history, but didn’t think the transition would be this obvious so soonYou seem to be proving my point and not even realizing it?
UConn is having to grit out games because they are playing teams that a good and that they’ve already seen. The same reason South Carolina is having to grit out games. And seeing as UConns injury problems came in December I don’t think lack of depth was the cause for them.
I don’t think anyone recommends or wants to play with a five man rotation like UConn has had to until this week but a 7-8 man rotation is ideal and likely what South Carolina will stick with moving forward in meaningful games.
Very much a trap game between some bigger games. SC was asleep for most of the game. The energy was just not there and I'm not sure why. Ole Miss is a good enough team to give anybody a game and Coach Yo does a good job coaching them up. The Ole Miss crowd did their job and the support was nice to see.I know most people (including myself) believe SC primed to repeat, but it's hard to go undefeated through a whole season ...
I didn't watch much of the game, but I'm curious to see what the SC BYers thought of it.

I don't think Boston pushed her. The player was out of control on the spin. If anything, Aliyah was protecting herself from the girl falling into her.Very much a trap game between some bigger games. I'm glad for the win but I'm also appreciative of the close call. This team needs to be challenged as much as possible before the NCAA tournament in order to repeat.
I also think there's some overreaction here from non-Gamecock fans. Yes, the game was tight and SC didn't play great. But name a team that hasn't had a tight game in the month of February. The only difference is that SC continues to find a way to win. We got the win and left the game with a full roster without injuries, so I can't ask for much more. SC will be fine and the result of this game has been decided, so the energy being devoted to beating into the ground whether Boston pushed a player or not is null.
It's already been said in the thread, but yes, ugly wins count all the same.
i thibk a lot of folks hoped Raven would start immediately. I’ve watched a lot of South Carolina games and the 1 3 1 zone they were playing was the perfect defensive balance to beat South Carolina. It allows for plenty of help defense on the post while still pressuring the back court so they can’t find enough of a rhythm to be comfortable shooting outside. The mistake most teams make is not putting enough pressure on your backcourt in favor of double or tripling the front court. A few games have shown this year the best way to limit South Carolinas frontcourt is by really pressuring the guards.I'm reluctant to write off games as being asleep. Instead I look it at as- ok this is what happens if we see a junk zone, Boston and others struggle, we don't look comfortable against an athletic team.
Biggest issue I saw was that we didn't really figure out how to attack what they were doing very effectively.
Are you joking?I don't think Boston pushed her. The player was out of control on the spin. If anything, Aliyah was protecting herself from the girl falling into her.
You must not have watched the LSU game. Fletcher was critical in the Gamecocks winning that game. She near shut down Alexis Morris, who thrived offensively when she was not on the court. Fletcher still plays a valuable role on this team.Everyone knew Fletcher was a bridge at point due to to Johnson’s injury, but I’m a little surprised to see how completely she’s been sidelined even in big regular season games. Look, I'm not crazy but we'll never see the play the same. I'm not the only one that saw it that way, but it doesn't matter anyway. Game is over. Are you joking?
Marquesha Davis was in front of Boston during the rush, how can she fall backwards to hurt Boston?
Whatever happened...a flop would have probably been a better option. Can't believe I just said that. HahhaaaaaDo you even sport? Someone falling into your knees from the front is much more dangerous than falling into them from behindAre you joking?

Imo if Fletcher had played in the second half the game wouldn’t have gone to overtime. Johnson couldn’t stay in front of their point guard and was making pretty bad decisions offensively. She hit that one three but I thought the team played better with Fletcher on the floor.I did. Also watched the Ole Miss and UConn games, where Raven played the entire second half.
I assume you did as well, because I don’t jump to smarmy “you must not have” taeks when someone says something I disagree with.

I'm a fan of developing players even if it means losing a game or two, but seems like a huge emphasis is being placed on winning the SEC that maybe isn't entirely necessary.
I’d add that Boston didn’t seem to be herself. She hits near 80% from the line and went 1-4 in the final minute of regulation, while also missing an admittedly rushed and off balance putback at the buzzer.Thank you @Cockygirl @JstVisiting @SCGamecock (and others) for the insightful answers/opinions. Can't see how this game could be bad for SC in any way - they grit out a W not playing well. I suspect Dawn, like Geno would, will point to this game and say it's ugly but we got it done and use it as a team reminder that tourney games can sometimes be like this.
I suspect SC might not have another off night like this for the rest of the season though. What's more likely is some other team has a really hot night and simply cannot miss from the arc (think L'Ville over Baylor in 2013). The odds are in SC's favor though.
Is she injured? Her whole hand was wrapped up and I thought that was odd.I’d add that Boston didn’t seem to be herself. She hits near 80% from the line and went 1-4 in the final minute of regulation, while also missing an admittedly rushed and off balance putback at the buzzer.
That putback wasn’t the easiest shot in the world, so I didn’t think much of the miss. But by large, that was one of the worst games of Boston’s career.I’d add that Boston didn’t seem to be herself. She hits near 80% from the line and went 1-4 in the final minute of regulation, while also missing an admittedly rushed and off balance putback at the buzzer.
Yes. In one disgraceful case a foul was correctly called while in the other disgraceful case the refs didn't make the right call.lol . that wasn’t disgraceful. not by a long shot.
throwing a full water bottle on the court during live action of a game towards a ref - that’s disgraceful
Even an off balance player cannot be shoved by a defender. Boston put her hand on the player and extended her arm. That's called a push.Looks like she was keeping her from falling into her knees. If the refs didn't call it and the announcers didn't acknowledge it, I think "disgraceful" is a little too much.Yes. You'll Mississippi schools have given us some of our toughest games this year.As I watched I regreted not making the now short drive down to Oxford to watch it in person. I thought Ole Miss played very well but just ran out of gas.
SC is very good but not unbeatable. There was part of me that felt they weren't really putting forth a lot of effort for a good portion of the game, figuring they would turn it up when needed. Ole Miss kept that from happening and it turned out to be a very entertaining game.
Props to Coach Yo and the Rebels for a great game. SC did what they had to do but needs to get more focused for the tournament if they plan to repeat as champs.
The same announcers that thought that very clean block called foul on Zia Cooke shooting at 3 was a foul even on replay? Yea, they were pretty terrible too lolLooks like she was keeping her from falling into her knees. If the refs didn't call it and the announcers didn't acknowledge it, I think "disgraceful" is a little too much.

This was a physical game and there was a lot that wasn't called for both sides all game. They let them play. That no call was fairly on par to how the game was called as a whole, which was to Ole Miss benefit. They are known to get a little foul happy at times with a more strict whistle.
That one play didn't cost them the game, if she was more in control they would have definitely called it but in real time it didn't look like much and the refs didn't call it.
Yes, watch the replay at 1:30:00 to 1:30:26 (special at 1:30:03 and 1:30:26
) you can see Boston push Marquesha Davis and was not called a foul.

Literally NO part of her body is even touching Davis's in a screen grab you claim shows Aliyah shoving her. Bless your heart. You tried.
