-> After an awkwardly handled replay late in the first half of last weekend's game between Syracuse and UConn, a longtime ACC official has quit his post over frustration with the way the review was handled, sources told ESPN on Friday.

Gary Patterson, who served as the head referee for Saturday's matchup between the Orange and Huskies and has worked as an official with the ACC since 2002, abruptly terminated his contract with the conference after the game. <-

Remember this replay review system in the Duke game in 2023, ejecting Jaxson Mitchell on a perfectly legal hit. It's time for Gary Patterson to go on a tell all tour and start naming names. Do it for the sake of humanity and do it for yourself.

The main issue isn't the officials it's the ones who work over the officials. For a long tenured official to walk away like this something is very very wrong. This guy wasn't even willing to complete the season what does that tell ya.

the only solace is that, probably, it nullified what was going to be a BS personal foul on our DL on the cancelled play.
That flag should not have been legit but of course we know the ACC refs. Looked like a clean hit by 55 Jackson while Angeli still had the ball.

so cuse had 2nd and 10 instead of 3rd and 10. what a crock of sheet. the ACC is a joke.

It was pretty clear live that Patterson was not happy with being told that the play didn’t count. That having been said, it was HIS decision to make, not the decision of ACC headquarters, and instead of giving in and quitting afterwards, the correct answer was to tell them it was too late and he wasn’t going to lie and say he had been buzzed before the snap.

This is true. The fact that he did not choose the correct answer leads me to believe there are other factors or forces at play and he may have had no choice. I don't think we have or will receive all the facts.

As I already hate the all cretins crew, this craptastic nonsense just kicked that hatred into hyper loathing. Yeah nah, it's not like those zebras from the all cretins conference would ever screw over UConn, right, right...gutless ref showing a spine nearly a week after we get a loss is bullocks. I really hope Benedict renegotiates that officiating agreement with that conference before our next game.

I think this is more than it appears.

Increasingly, it seems like these referees are getting instructions from the command center, and maybe he didn’t agree with the calls he was being encouraged to make.

That one was head scratcher and didn’t make any sense.

It is kind of weird in that w / ACC games I often notice refereeing can be 100% fail for long stretches - no complaints. And then it always happens - they go to those dang headsets and meeting together and there is either a bad call or some play doesn’t get reviewed that should. Most times, it goes against our team.

Frankly, I don’t want an invite to the ACC. After these shannigans, I just assume take all those teams off our schedule and go look elsewhere to play games. This has gone on too long and when a ref quits over the handing of calls - it most definitely tells you there is more to the story.

Unfortunately, the negotiation will go like this.
ACC: All our games will have an ACC crew or there's no game at all. Go find another P4 conferences to schedule games.
Benedict: Okay.

Nobody quits their job because of a simple mistake, but they might quit their job if they feel something unethical is occurring. This really just confirms what we already knew and no doubt it was far more than this one play.

The underhanded referring needs to be factored into the equation when considering joining a G5 conference to bide our time in. I know we are all hoping for some P4 wins this year, but there is A LOT to overcome, its not a level playing field.
