OT: Songs that are covers of another artist

Willie Dixon was mostly a songwriter and producer. In the late 60’s he recorded the occasional song with the Chess house players when the studio wasn’t being used, which became his album “I Am the Blues”. Most of his renditions weren’t as good as previous recordings of others, but I LOVE his version of Spoonful, probably most famously played by Cream.

And now for something completely different. Dream Theater every so often decide to perform someone else’s album in its entirety. Here is their rendition of Dark Side of the Moon.

Taken from Relix

On Saturday, May 10, Warren Haynes Band took their Million Voices Whisper tour to the Majestic Ventura Theatre in Ventura, Calif., to support Haynes’ latest solo album of the same name. During the concert’s latter half, the bandleader welcomed 12-year-old guitar prodigy, Saxon Weiss, to riff on the Little Milton original, turned Jerry Garcia Band-associated cover, “That’s What Love Will Make You Do.”

I discovered The Teskey Brothers a few years ago but haven’t listened to them in awhile - they do an excellent job on this Otis Redding classic

Seven Bridges Road - this version by Ian Mathews is wonderful:

While Iain (that's how he now spells it) didn't write that song, he DID originate the vocal harmony arrangement that was later used uncredited on the other cover that most are familiar with.

Bob Weir and Kingfish did a great version of Marty Robbins "Big Iron":

Yola doing an Elton John classic - lucky enough to see her do this at Garcia’s

I still get chills from Bettye LaVette's reinvention of this classic of The Who.
Performed at the Kennedy Center, in the presence of Townshend and Daltrey.

Cheap Trick with their live version of Ain't That A Shame, written and first released by Fats Domino
(Don't Be Cruel would have been my second choice from them)

Although that's good, nobody has ever done this song better than Cory Wells of Three Dog Night. Here are two versions, one from the 1960s and the other from 2002. Each to me is very enjoyable as this song (and the group of three lead vocalists) has been, and still is, one of my all-time favorites. There is another good one on YouTube from 1975 (perhaps even better and more animated), but this site will only allow me to post two..

Crazy Little Thing Called Love was written by Freddie Mercury and performed by Queen at the Live Aid Concert at Wembley.

Cover by Elvis Presley:

Ok. I’m calling bs on this one. Elvis died in 1977. Mercury wrote the song in 1980.

You are right. Freddie Mercury wrote it as a tribute to Elvis and Cliff Richard.
