OT: Songs that are covers of another artist

“Unchained Melody” is one of the most beautiful songs of all time. It was the theme music for the 1955 film Unchained. Todd Duncan sang the vocals on the soundtrack and, ever since, it’s endured as one of the most covered songs ever—as folks like Elvis Presley, George Benson, U2, Cyndi Lauper and Orville Peck have tried their hand at. But none even approximate Bobby Hatfield's version. Ilke like this live performance best. It shows Hatfield's vocal mastery. No electronics! Just pure talent!

57 other artists followed Bobby into this song! Many years after Bobby's version was released it hit #1 on the charts again when it was used in the movie Ghost.

Got to see her at The Kate - PBS recorded the concert for broadcast

I’d never heard of her. This is absolutely fantastic, true to the original without being a copy.

Here’s a couple more y’all might enjoy.
What Becomes of the Broken Hearted - Joan Osborne with the Funk Brothers
Enter Sandman - The Warning, Pepsi Center live CDMX

Heck, let's go in the opposite direction. This is Paul Young singing Tom Waits. When I got this album, a buddy and I were listening to this song, and I noticed that Waits had written it. We both agreed that it didn't sound like a Tom Waits song. Until we heard the lyrics.

A couple live covers... first a live cover of a Beatles song
The Georgia Satellites - Don't Pass Me By

Omar & The Howlers cover The Animals - We Gotta Get Outta This Place
Another live cut

I think Les McCann's cover of the Marvin Gaye song What's Going On? is just epic:

Eleanor Rigby (The Beatles), performed live by The Analogues

My favorite covers are "Twist & Shout" by the Beatles, "Last Kiss" by Pearl Jam, "Creep" by Scala (love the original Radiohead version as well), and recently "Africa" by Weezer (liked they didn't try to do too much with the original, but for me Johnny Cash's version of "Hurt" is number one.
If you like 'Creep', you might find this interesting:
Paulina took this on as a fan challenge, learned it in about 4 hours, and recorded it with an iPhone and a piano.

A 1965 Marvin Gaye hit ‘Ain’t That Peculiar’ done by an excellent group - Fanny

David Bowie described Fanny this way “They were one of the finest duckcking rock bands of their time, in about 1973. They were extraordinary: They wrote everything, they played like motherduckers they were just colossal and wonderful, and nobody’s ever mentioned them. They’re as important as anybody else who’s ever been, ever; it just wasn’t their time. Revivify Fanny. And I will feel that my work is done.”

Edited for language

Voila is a French song co-written and performed initially by Barbara Pravi. Emma Kok, a 15-year-old Dutch singer, performs the cover. It is sung in French, but you do not need to understand the language to appreciate the song or the artist.

I am posting this cover again because in previous threads I posted that Mott the Hoople were the original artists. I was wrong, Ian Hunter was the original artist when he was a solo artist and not a member of Mott the Hoople.
Plus it's one of my top ten cruisng songs.

And don't forget it featured Bobbi Brown before Warrant got a hold of her.
