Stewart a good prospect. Stuck behind a lottery pick and a late first player. Ross is gonna take time. Ball can score. Has flaws. But gotta be patient.

temery has been doing the opposite of denigrating what Calhoun, Izzo, and Coach K have done in their careers. He has been saying people on the Boneyard are too quick to elevate Hurley to the elite status of those 3 coaches.

Can you point out to me who has elevated Hurley to their level? I'm not seeing it.
 
Hurley’s press conference ahead of the Texas game provides a continuation of his realistic and sobering assssment of his team not only for this game but for the year.

Please note, in his Briefs, Chief was the optimistic one about the season after the Colorado game.

What I am saying was Mahaney started as a result of Euro Ball narrative and it sacrificed all the other reasons why we won the title.
Mahaney is a very good player but he is not a point guard. He does very well in the shooting guard role. Even today we played him as a PG when Hassan was out and I woukd have gone with Ball.
 
What I am amazed at is posters, in attempting to make a point, are taking turns denigrating our two great coaches, both of whom will end up being in the Top Ten best college coaches of all time once Dan is done. Are you really looking for a weakness on Hurley's resume, one of 4 coaches all-time who has won back-to-back titles, to make your point. And Calhoun has been criticized here because he never won BTB or had an occasional near-.500 year? Did you forget that Boeheim called Calhoun's building of the program at the state ag school the greatest program build in history?

This topic has been taken totally off the rails. You should feel ashamed saying anything negative about these two icons.

spot on. I don't get it. both are incredible. None will match the other's achievements, and they don't have to. Calhoun got nothing to prove to anyone, and hurley showed in the past two games, relative to maui that he can, in fact, coach.
 
Wow. I think this bodes well for the team. They really could use a more relaxed coach right now. A lot of pressure with the goal of a third title and a very young team.

I highly doubt ever will the NBE approach the overall competitiveness of the OBE, top to bottom.

There are posts within this thread that can be interpreted or misinterpreted as people saying Hurley is on the level of Calhoun and other greats. But your question is meant for temery, you would have to ask him.

I was responding to JohnFSilver's post at #121 stating temery, or so I thought, was denigrating Calhoun, Coach K, and Izzo when in fact it was quite the opposite. JohnFSilver later on posted that his #121 post was not meant for temery and that is was meant for someone else.

JC brought UConn to the promised land through the OBE which is so much different than the current watered down current NBE. Dan Hurley has had two unbelievable seasons and that cannot be taken away. Two different coaches, coaching in two different eras. Both basically missed out of the AAC crap.
Bottom line - Both have performed outstandingly at times and on some occasions their teams have produced less than stellar performances. If you had to go with a GOAT at this time. based on length of tenure, etc. I vote JC BUT things could change.

incomparable. JC built the program from nothing. Dan Hurley took over a dormant beast. Both are GOATed on the results they've achieved given the starting points.

Please stop with the JC build this program from nothing. This was a strong regional program for decades. The Huskies appeared in the NCAA tournament 11 times between 1939 and 1970—second most of any school in the tournament's early era—reaching their first Sweet Sixteen in 1956 and first Elite Eight in 1964. That ain't nothing.

Calhoun and the Big East created by Dave Gavitt elevated the program. Calhoun could never have done what he succeed in doing without the brainchild of Dave Gavitt. The Big East was nationally significant before the Huskies. Calhoun made the Huskies significant in the Big East and then broke though at the national level.

Calhoun is one of the best coaches in the history of college basketball. But he did not build the program from nothing.

Calhoun inherited Cliff Robinson who played 18 seasons in the NBA. It wasn't from "nothing". Phil Gamble too. But it was still an incredible program building job to take that successful regional program national.

I have been beyond sick and tired of the storyline of of great we were in the 1950's (we were if you exclude most of the then true college hasketball world) and the upset of Princeton to get to the elite eight as some grand history and a foundation for anything since the early 1980's when it was the excuse to retain Perno,

If results from then are a launching point for currebt dominance, it wouldn't take a lot for a coach to consistently compete for titles at Bradley or LaSalle.

We were a nice little program in New England that was clearly better than all other New England state schools. A stray win over a school that actually was serious (Holy Cross in those days) was major news,

I can add many relevant factors but it would seem you aren’t interested in hearing the facts. All I can say is I’m very happy where we are it’s special but a long long way to go!

The program is higher than it’s ever beeen, but JC is arguably the best program builder in college basketball history. UConn has the Big East affiliation going for it when JC arrived, and that’s about it. UConn was roughly where DePaul is. There was no Gampel, only the Field House. Without JC, UConn probably isn’t on Hurley’s radar after URI. In fact without JC, UConn would have been negligibly a better job than URI.
 
JC was great. But I don't think JC vanguard here realize that they are not giving Hurley his due respect. Look at that thread mapping out the most popular teams in every state. UConn owns the most populous 5 states for cryin' out loud. It was never, ever close to that before. And, no, it's not all because of Bueckers.

Yup, Hurley has brought us to the national level Duke and coach K were in the 90's, and Hurley inherited a bottom feeder in the AAC. Ollie was recruiting players based on their dunking ability in a YouTube video, Hurley brought us back to the tournament after just two recruiting seasons even with the setback of Akok blowing out his Achilles and Bouknight having mid-season elbow surgery.

He inherited a Robinson who didn’t play much under Perno and made him what he turned out to be with some tough love. Then he lost both Phil and Cliff for a year as well. And there were baseball (Economou) and soccer players getting time as walk ons. It was THE best program building ever in college basketball history period.

What JC did is amazing. I'm not taking away from it. But he didn't inherit what say, Bill Snyder did in K-State football (the worst D1 program) but JC's success was far greater. Perno had some pretty decent teams and good players like Tim Cole, Norm Bailey, Hobbs etc.
