I really think that unless Pitt threw a HUGE deal at him, that Hurley is coming here. I can't imagine Benedict isn't going to be able to get to $3+ million and that should be enough based on how much smoke there is around UConn being his preferred choice, all things considered.
But DB had to have known that was coming, right? If he didn't...

I actually really do like Providence and Newport. I have fond memories of Misquamicut. The rest of the state...

Providence is crap. And there's no where to park ever.

It's only saving grace is Dave and Busters.

Newport is just phenomenal. Especially in September to early October when it is still warm and the tourists are gone.

no ducking way URI matched our offer. Where could they possibly come up with 2+m per year and practice facilities and charter flights?

I will say, Narragansett and Newport are little pieces of heaven.

Yup, and they are only an hour away from Tolland County, which he will be easily able to afford at ~2.5M per.

I half expect him to forego the hat choice decision and simply sit down live on ESPN and say “After a lot of thought and speaking with my family....I’ve decided to bring my talents to Mirror Lake and join the University of Connecticut.”

My wife did her grad school at Brown, so I could always park. Easy walking (minus hills), solid local beer, good food, right on the shore.

I would imagine he did, but I guess if we're in such a budget crisis that he really can't get above $2.5 mil, there's no harm in going after your preferred candidate and hoping that's enough money to get a deal done. Reports are out there that he prefers UConn over Pitt, and we all feel comfortable in saying that URI can't match $2.5 million, so it's worth a shot, right?

Not saying that's what's happening here, but if we don't get him, then we're no worse off than had DB chosen to not even try because of potential budget constraints.

I'd say a solid 90 minutes. Providence is an hour. But if he's more towards east greenwich then it can be done in an hourish.

It's mostly back roads to get there.

We're hearing reports trickle out. I doubt anything is actually new information to the key players. Which means if you were confident Monday/Tuesday, you should probably not really change your thought.
If the reports of Pitt at $25M for 7 years are true, as well as reports that we are around $1M less per year and at the end of what we can offer, I have to think it's a tough decision. I agree with you that URI would seem the least likely in that scenario, but if URI comes close to UConn--and I know you say it can't but I'm assuming they are pulling out all the stops--all bets are off again imo.

Still looks like three very different and very intriguing choices to me, and I'm not sure which one I would choose if it was my choice to make.

As for the State of Rhode Island itself, I'm a fan of the South Kingstown area in which URI is located; we've spent many summer vacations on the shore there and will again this year. A little lacking culturally imo, but close enough to other cultural hubs.

Really, the stalkers here haven't found out exactly where he lives yet?

I'm hearing it's a done deal. He's either staying at URI or going to UConn. But he may want to grab the dough from the Pitt job.

But it is a done deal, it will be one of those 3 I've learned.

A done deal that could either go two wildly opposite directions. You heard it here folks!

Whenever I get a notification from TheScore, I'm always like "Ooh this could be it!" Then I look and it's just telling me that the Charlotte game starts in 15 minutes or here are a couple of possible sweet sixteen upsets or something about Penny.
