Solo's Replacement - Paul McNeil | Page 8 | The Boneyard

Solo's Replacement - Paul McNeil

McNeil comes here, lights it up from 3 and he is a first round pick as one and done for us.

Demary, Mullins, McNeil, NK, Hines - this works for me. Add some bench pieces and we play Michigan again in Detroit for #7

It’s not happening. The staff is making it known that it’s not pursuing any more starters. I’d sure like a Solo replacement but apparently we don’t have the money. Which seems nuts to me but I haven’t seen the spreadsheet. Mullins and Demary must’ve been very expensive.

before solo hurt his wrist he was shooting about 39% in December. I made a post about it back then:

Solo Ball is a great player and key part of this team
He was sort of doing better in december, shooting 38.7%. Then he hurt his wrist in the butler game and has shot 20% since.
of course monthly splits are not that significant but it's quite clear the injury severely impacted his play.

How much money do we have left? You seem to know.

So is there a single shred of evidence that this has legs, or are we boneyarding our way to a 20 page thread of nothingness?
Danny plays his cards close to the vest-as he should-during portal time. He and the staff are being highly efficient and nailing their targets. Having said that- Have not heard any noise or smoke about a mutual interest with McNeil. Nice prospect for the right fit. Not sure Dan sees the fit for this roster. I'm sure he was aware of an imminent Stewart portal departure and the Solo decision to redshirt way ahead of those public disclosures. Stay tuned.

My younger brother's best friend is a manager on the NC State teams and apparently Paul McNeil is highly likely to be UConn bound. He had wanted to play for Hurley but there didn't seem to be enough minutes to go around. The Solo news yesterday was a back breaker, but it sounds like it helped in the McNeil sweepstakes. He's got three schools left, but UConn is top of the pack at the moment. Sounds like he plans on deciding by the end of the week.

You caused quite the stir today lmao

Laid this out before - Hurley mentioned they have a budget, which I’d guess is around 14mm. By going what we’ve heard with market minus maybe some small discount, would have to think it’s around:

Silas - 3
Mullins - 4
Khamenia - 2.5
Hines - 2.5
Ross - <1
Landrew - <1
Country <1

Those are estimates and the budget is hearsay but probably not that far off.

Can’t imagine we got a lot left for a big time player. Maybe splurge on the backup 5 and then save some beans for all the rosters spots.

This guys is out there

Pitino is all over both those guys as is Michigan and Gonzaga.
If we are going to talk the talk we have to walk the walk. As soon as Hines gets in foul trouble we need to bring a very capable replacement. We are not serious without one and I don't believe for a minute that that will be the case.

If that is near correct there is no money left for additional players? Maybe the others aren’t getting those numbers.

As far as money this is really saying you don't have a clue and just a SWAG (scientific wild guess). I get it.

UConn keeps an extremely tight circle on this stuff. Anyone blabbing about it or tweeting about it is talking out of their arse.

Total guess but all figures based on stuff that was out there, how true who knows. The cost of players, PG. We know Mullins had to be close or more than the NBA rate. Top centers were not cheap.

I think you’re doing a lot of speculating and guesswork with this. There are different ways players can earn money. Direct deals from athletic department revenue is what I assume you’re talking about, but that’s distinct from NIL deals through both the school as well as other ones not directly tied to the school

Not that the recruiting sites are all that accurate, but 247 lists him as a 2G and not even a CG. It's hard enough for freshman PGs or CGs handle the lead guard responsibilities on both ends of the floor or the defense pressure they will face, it's even tougher for 2Gs with experience to handle it.

Now it wouldn't be the first time a recruit has been listed incorrectly. And sometimes a recruit who is capable of playing one position ends up playing more time at a different one due to what his team needed, i.e. he's a capable lead guard that slid over to the 2 because they needed him there.

I'm still very concerned about relying on a freshman to log important minutes at the 1, and hope they can land an experienced guard that can hold their own if County struggles to give them solid minutes spelling Silas.

I took my info directly from Borges' article today that said the staff was comfortable with County as the backup point guard. It does not seem that a back up point guard is on the shopping list.

Has there been any concrete tweet from a reliable source that we are trying to get Paul McNeil?

I'd have to think that is accurate - not to say we won't find a deep backup on the clearance rack. I want to see what the quality of the 5 is, especially with the top 5 rosters forming pretty quickly. We are going to be on a short list of teams considered title contenders. Florida is going to have their big 3, I'm guessing UM will have Estrella/Thiam. Duke brought Ngongba back along with grabbing the kid from Belmont, Illinois rolled it all back. Not sure how good I feel about Hines and Khamenia going head to head with any of those FC's.

Yeah, that is not the immediate need. It's the 5.
