Solo Ball’s minutes last night?

Yup. And Mullins makes up for the offense Solo provides. Let’s see how much this lineup plays together. Solo coming off the bench?
I expect they will keep the same starting rotation and there will be nights when Solo is the hot shooter, but Hurley may stagger the rotations so that Ball and Mullins get time with only one of them on court at a time

He literally started the game by hitting a three then diving on the floor the get a loose ball. Stew is coming into his own which does wonders for this team’s potential but let’s not like Solo’s impact isn’t massive because of a poor few minutes of game time.

It’s worth watching - Solo has had a very lackluster first half of the year, exhibiting similar gaps perhaps with some improvement. He now has a teammate brining a better quality of what he does without the limitations. He’s valuable but not indispensable.
This is not true, and you said it yourself multiple times that he was our main offensive weapon.

Honestly, what are you doing?

Go ahead, tell us how he’s been having a lackluster first half is the season and how that makes any sense given what you just acknowledged.
30% from 3 isn't what I would call a great first half of the year for a player's who number 1 value is 3 point shooting. My only point is that his role may reshape with Mullins moving into primary scorer role. They play the same exact role out there.

You saw it last game, you are seeing it here in the first half against DePaul with 0 shots so far.

Mullins has more height to his game and does a little bit of everything while shooting from half court or better with good results. Remember, his HS coach said his range is the gym.

Solo is trying though... constantly battling for loose balls, and getting a block or two here and there. I felt during the Providence game he was especially mobile, but just barely missed some loose balls and was called for the foul.

He was, until Mullins arrived.
and yet despite his poor shooting, he's STILL putting up a higher ORtg than mullins...mostly becasue he draws twice as many fouls.

Getting to the line is part of offense...and solo does it significantly better than bradley.

I think the only time I saw Mullins get to the rim in the last couple of games was on a break away versus DePaul. Hurley tells us it's coming, and I do believe him. But Ball has been much better getting into the lane and to the basket than BM.

The point being different guys are giving us different stuff and both make us better. But so many on the BY think it is a zero sum game. To paraphrase Sanogo -- it is not.

Mullins was never hot garbage last night not at all like Solo. Not sure what you were watching but he was good and then great.
I was confused too... Was really Good had 16 at end of regulation and scored 8 in OT. Also was big on defensive end. Providence made us pay for not switching BS. Killed us all night. Shot selection and decision making killed Providence in the END

Glad you made these points about Solo. He is struggling from three, but his drives to the basket have been spectacular!!

i'm not really concerned with solo offensively. he is still a guy the opposing team pays attention to and as long as he maintains that gravity it won't impact the offense too much to have him as more decoy than shooter.

the real issue is the defense. his shooting trouble kind of obscures the fact that he's greatly improved on defense for most of the year until the providence game. if the improved defense is legit then it's just a good team level boost. if it regresses then there's some real problems.

I wouldn’t say greatly. He is still metric-wise one of the worst defenders on the team. He is still featured on scouting reports to attack him because he is weak on the perimeter and gets lost on screens.

He has done some thing better, but is still the weakest link defensively when on the floor.

well before the providence game he was about average on defense, the past two games he's been much worse.

Mid-January is when UConn teams historically have their rut. And players can get into ruts, like Solo now. And Steph Castle for that matter. Heck, remember Ben Gordon in January? He was a junior, too.

Solo is going to take a few games to figure out how he falls into the rotation now that Mullins is getting big minutes. I'm sure they are working on it in practice. They have to figure out some way to work together out there that is harmonious and symbiotic, perhaps even look for each other more out there. Right now Mullins is their alpha scorer.

If Mullins becomes the opposition D's priority, then Solo will most certainly take advantage.

And please, leave AK alone all you dare.
