I don't see how we beat that team. As long as they have Griner and Sims they should be #1. They would have won by more if they could get the ball to Griner a bit more. She's a junior, Sims a sophomore.

It's like it was with D. We had her and no one else did. Baylor has Griner and no one else does.

Maybe it will be different on neutral court with KML having a full season under her belt, but it isn't guaranteed. We shot very well from behind the arc then got cold and game over.

What changes? Well for starters Breanna Stewart, Moriah Jefferson, and Morgan Tuck, 3 of the top 5 recruits of the class of 2012 are on our roster next year. That will kelp. Baylor has none of that quality being added to their team next year.

Are we really conceding this year and next year after a hard fought tight loss on Baylor's homecourt? Seriously? Man up.

Hey next season we have Stewart with a 6'10 wing span. We'll have Tuck and Jefferson and eveybody else with another year under their belt. I think UConn will be much better team in March and if Heather continues to improve she gonna reak heck with everybody.

I even like our chances on a neutral court if we see them again THIS year, let alone next year.

Next year I think Breanna Stewart makes a crucial difference for us defensively. I believe her presence will cut down on Baylor's ability to make entry passes to BG, meaning fewer catches for BG in the types of positions Baylor wants to see. She will just add another level of overall effectiveness to our D in a ton of ways.

Aside from that, we lose Tiff but everyone else has more experience and we gain Mo and Morgan. As much as I love Tiff--who plays with more heart than just about anyone--we will be better next year, even if BStewart were to give us nothing on the offensive end (which will not be the case).

heather is strong defensively, but sometimes she's too much of an offensive risk if everyone is guarded closer and gets cold...

Madden should have been on KML since the start, but Mulk doesn't like to assign defenses unless they are hurting. Hayden, cindery couldn't guard KML, neither could any switches that would happen on KML...

Madden is very focused on her man, and was running around with hartley too much, where sims should be covering at all times., bad switches when anyone not named madden was guarding KML,

she can shoot

dang

doty has yet to score on Baylor....

Hartley us going to be a star for sure, she is awesome.

or Cokie Reed in Texas... she's' good....

maybe even Bone... who leads her team in scoring right?

Congrats to the Lady Bears - it was a hard-fought game and one that the winner should feel proud of.

Eh, I'd take Dolson over Bone. But right now, there's a MONSTER gap (no pun intended) between Griner and the rest of the centers in WCBB.

A few thoughts --
Madden is something else. She locked down KML in a way that no one else could. The lesson for KML, of course, is to figure out how to deal with professional-grade defense. If she can figure out that, she'll be deadly, because I don't see anyone else doing a better job on her.

Baylor certainly is a team that Doty does not do well against. She just plain disappeared.

Odyssey Sims is very hard for the UConn guards to handle. She's more athletic than Faris, and probably can outquick Hartley.

It is Heather Buck's bad luck that she played the game of her life in a losing effort. If UConn had won, she'd be the toast of the town. However, those folks who say that if only she could score X points per game UConn would win everything are delusional. It's like saying if only my Ford Escort could outrace your Ferrari. Well, not quite tyqatbbad, butb you get the picture. Against a top-rated team, she's going to focus on defense and almost nothing else. That's just the way it is. But boy, wasn't it nice to see her work on Griner in the first half..

I don't know if anyone beats Baylor this year. UConn may have a shot again, of course, but of the teams I've seen, the only one impressive enough to have a chance is Notre Dame. They looked pretty impressive against Kentucky, which is a good but not great team.

Dolson is only a sophmore who has played 45 college games. She got schooled by the best center in WCBB tonight. She is a serious, conscientious kid who will take this game to heart she will work hard and she will acquit herself better if we face Baylor again. I truly like our chances of getting into the final four. I like our chances for winning a national championship which means that I think we can beat Baylor on a neutral court. Tonight it was 6 against 5...the hostile Baylor crowd was an asset for Baylor tonight.

Madden did a good job on KML in the 2nd half but she had some help from KML as well. KML went cold in the 2nd half...she had open looks, she just couldn't knock down the shots. Madden's block on his shot from the baseline gave the impression that she locked KML down...her defense was good but it wasn't lock down defense...KML got shots. She even drew Geno's ire for passing up a shot that resulted in Bria getting her shot blocked by Griner.

Thought KML had some good looks in the final minutes running off screens. Madden recovered on that one block in the corner, which was an excellent defensive play to pull that off without fouling, since KML had generated plenty of separation flaring into the corner off the screen.

Im not worried about her yet, Senior Griner will take care of her I'm sure.

Unless..........she wants to play the 4..... that would kill us.... Pope, Williams, Chandler (back from injury/red shirt) Fuqua and Prince will have a tough time with her though.....

unless...... Senior Pope and Williams finish developing a better shot and more defensive prowess, to handle a good 4...., which is yet to be seen...especially this game.

i think our guard play will just get better with the newbies... better bench.... oh and a very senior team with BG, Pope, Madden, Hayden, Williams, as seniors.....
Juniors will be SIMS, Washington (coming back from injury), Mariah Chandler (back from injury), Robertson (shooting guard, mulkey's daughter)

We don't have to worry about Baylor next year unless its during the tournament.

According to John A Kim said most likely won't play UConn next year, doesn't want to have the game played during conference time. If this happens its a loss for Baylor, not UConn.

What will change next year is UConn will have a better, deeper team. Ten of 11 players return. This season, UConn has seven freshmen and sophomores. Next season, there will be seven juniors and seniors. Kiah and Banks will be in better position to play games like this, Stewart and Tuck are college ready, and MJ will be by season's end.

You can only play five kids at once, but UConn seemed to hit a wall last night. The more players you can rotate, the fresher everyone stays. Baylor will be better next year. UConn will be much better next year. After a five point defeat on the road, that should be a source of giddiness.

Everything Alex said + the fact that our weak side help on BG next year will only give up 3" inches in height, nothing in arm length and will be a huge net positive on the offensive end as well.

BTW, I sure like our chances next year...in APRIL, if there should be a rematch. Just a reminder, this is mid-December folks.

ARE WE CONCEDING NEXT YEAR duck* NO! After watching the game last night,I continue to be more impressed with the state of the team at this time of the year than I expected to. We lost and I find positive things to learn/take from the game. We had an 11 point lead in the 2nd half of the game in Waco,Texas, playing the #1 ranked team,on the road, playing the best individual player, and an excellent pt guard in our 2nd road game of the year,10th game of the year! With 3 FR,2 of whom contributed 3 minutes,4 SO 2 0f whom contributed 0 minutes,3 JR** CD,Kelly, and a young woman wo played her best game as a Huskie<forget the box score stats< and one SR. We have the vast majority of the season to practice, play, learn from this game, develop, and grow. For those of you who want to jump ahead a year<having jumped off a blgd>WE happen to add the #1 HS player in the country who is a legit,4/5 and has skills that which in this game woud have <IMHO>produced victory>we could have won this game with the current roster>we are adding the #2 player in the country 1/2,adding let us say the #5 player in the country,4/3/5 all 3 capable right now of playing college ball. We lose Tiffany!
Props to Baylor,Grinor,Sims! Bring them on in April!
This post could be 5 times as long, but for now...................................
KELLY is the most underrated player in the country, but the secret is getting out;)

Baloney. I am looking for changes THIS YEAR...we can beat Baylor, we came close, and we will get another shot. You obviously don't understand the concept and/or act of athletic competition.

They won at home; give them credit. We will beat them at home or on a neutral court. Hey, we had them on the last night, just couldn't nail it down.

We have Geno and Baylor doesn't. Sorry but that is a MAJOR advantage to UConn.

And keep in mind that players make the biggest stride from Freshman year to Sophmore year followed by Soph to Junior and then Junior to Senior. In fact, I have observed MANY players that play worse in their Senior season because of the pressure. Our key players are younger and will improve more from this year to next. That's a reality.

What we add with Stewart is another body to throw at Griner. We will have three legit players to guard her and 15 fouls to give. We can double team without fear. Geno will come up with a plan to stop her. And Sims won't get away with her prison playground act on a neutral court in the NCAAs. Sorry but that is how I see it.
