"Connecticut Athletic Director Warde Manuel said he was shocked to learn of the resignation Monday, but said it will not affect his school's affiliation with the Big East.

''Our relationship is with the conference, and we'll look forward to working with the leadership in the conference to move forward,'' Manuel said."

I guess it's safe to say UConn didn't lead the charge to get rid of Marinatto. According to Katz it was the hoops schools.

The hoop schools were the one's behind JM to begin with. However, JM started pushing the football side of things...and the basketball schools turned on him. The basketball schools have had about enough and are now banding together and making their last stand.

Expect things to get very ugly, very quickly. This is not going to end well.

And if you work in the business world, the fact that BCG has been hired should tell you all you need to know!

He might say he was shocked, but I wouldn't be surprised if he saw this coming all along and is just saying it to the media.

I hope he was reprising the Claude Rains role of Capt. Renault in Casablanca.

The Presidents not the ADs pushed him out. I'm sure Manuel heard right after Marinatto heard he was out.

Exactly. This and every other message board has considered him incompetent but well-fed.

i want him to get up and say, "finally this sob is gone, " and kick his ass as hes walking out the door not "were staying in the BE and were happy, this sis shocking, so sad"... etc

I'm not sure what anyone expects Warde to say. If it was the BE presidents who asked him to resign, Warde shouldn't say anything of magnitude until Herbst has her say. So he's doing the right thing by going with the good soldier approach.

What do you expect him to say? Even if he knew that we were leaving the conference tomorrow, he wouldn't say anything different than he did. I don't know what you all expect our leadership to say at this point!

"Marianetto's record as Big East Commissioner speaks for itself. I wish him well in any future endevors. The University of Connecticut looks forward to working with the new comissioner on keeping the Big East as one of the premier sports conferences in America."

Sometimes less is more.

According to Marinatto, via NY Times, Big East presidents and Marinatto have been talking aobut him stepping down for weeks. I have not one single reason to expect Marinatto to be lying. The man is the penultimate altar boy. He is a good man, and it's a shame that there aren't more like him in the business world. He's trustworthy to a fault in the business world, and we simply can't have him at the negotiating table in September.

AD's had no reason to know anything about it, and even if they did, they better not be breaking the chain of command, and TRUST - that Marinatto has established when it comes to doing business in the past year after the LIARS in the conference rooms in 2011 did their business. Unfortunately, trust is something that has to be earned again in the big east, and it only comes with how information is shared.

Therefore it SHOULD come as a surprise to everyone (AD's coaches, and on down the chain of command) below the presidents, that Marinatto has tendered resignation, and every single president knows exactly why it was done, and wehre we're going from here, because Big EAst leadership is set to get together and meet next week.

it's ridiculous how much some people try to read into what's basically political speech. next you're going to tell me you really like a presidential candidate b/c he said he's going to try to move the country forward. any comment made after any move like this by anyone with any accountability is going to be a worthless, trite soundbite and nothing more.

PS. Carl, your love affair with Marinatto is getting downright ridiculous. i agree he shouldn't take as much heat as he has since he basically inherited a tidal wave of crap, but you make it like we should have a parade in his honor.

Time to bring in The Bobs:

I take Manuel at his word since it would not be necessary to make the "shocked" comment in order to say something nice about Marinato. However, if Manuel was at least surprised by the move it means one of two things. Either Herbst was not one of the presidents in favor of the change, and was therefore surprised herself, or she was in favor but did not share that with her AD prior to the announcement. Either is not good.

In my fantasy world, it is because Herbst has something worked out for UConn to move to another conference, but does not want ANYONE to know until it is official. That is what I am going to keep telling myself so that I can sleep better at night.

rumor is that the b12 has 6 schools picked. none of the 6 are cincy, ville or byu. hhhmmmm...

if any of md/vt/uva/unc/ncst go to the b12, we could actually be in for a interesting position reguarding b10 expanding.

Cant link to the voices in his head.

Sorry, that wasn't very nice...but that was probably one of the funniest throw away lines I have read on this board. I just spit spicy Thai food all over my favorite t-shirt.

He's great - but sometimes gets a bit off the rails.

Forgot another possibility, a mole hunt.
