was being recruited by Vanderbilt, Kentucky and South Florida."
FWIW (and it may not be worth anything), I had heard also Princeton and Brown. I think there's an article in her high school paper at the time of her signing with UConn where someone expressed surprise that she hadn't signed with one of them, given how serious a student she was. (I'll ignore the temptation to comment on what that implies. Woops! I guess I didn't ignore it.)

I'm sitting next to Linda Cimino, head coach of the Binghamton (NY) women's team and she tells me that UConn will be back in the Final Four next year.

It's gonna be fun watching head's explode. :)

I told her I'm concerned about the guard situation and she said that Crystal will be really good but don't count out Molly Bent.

"She's a little Kelly Faris. She's really good and you [UConn fans] are going to love her". She called Molly a recruiting "steal".

:)

She's only an actual coach? What does she know. Clearly she's as clueless as the UConn staff.

No essay?

Yes. The old SAT was 1600 points, divided between qualitative and quantitative parts. The essay part is an add-on of fairly recent vintage. I've graded the essays occasionally; it's not encouraging in general.

I believe the essay is going to be dropped as part of the new SAT configuration.

Yep, effective a month ago, the newest "new" SAT is back to 2 parts, each with a max score of 800. In addition, the vocabulary has been made less esoteric.

I believe that Molly takes AP classes and has a GPA above 4.0. She'll be a Dean's List student at UConn and help the team GPA.

Rumor has it that she can rescue kittens from trees and cut the opponent's heart out at the same time. ;)

I have known Coach Cimino
wish rest of her career well

but especially being a Coach, she should know better than to boldly make that claim .. even with Geno's esteemed track record

next year's UConn team has many question marks going into season
and with Freshman, it is often a crap shoot as towhat extent they will transfer, perform ... especially Freshman PG's in a demanding program

there will also be a few programs with a lot returning & coming in ( full cupboard )

Live bold...

What do you project? Or would you recommend everyone stay silent?

ThisJustin - recommend everyone stay silent .... Huhh

silence has nothing to do with Recognition .

The amount of question marks going into next season = a fact
Freshman and how they will transfer being a crapshoot = a fact ( coaches should know more than anyone )

I think you took her comment way too literal. If UCONN only makes the E8 net year and has a tremendous record, how much does her comment really mean? I don't see the big deal -a UCONN fan in NAN spoke of how she was concerned about UCONN - and instead of saying "Why you are going to be very good" she put UCONN in the same tier as nearly all other teams. They are expected to be a FF threat, right? Read some of the other posts on here. Some are gloom-and-doomers.

She didn't make a claim, per se, she expressed her opinion to a UConn fan who broadcast it on the Internet. It's not like she called a press conference to make an announcement.

Huskynan - now You are going a bit extra. ( public announcement line )

simply inferred as a college coach I am surprised she would make that definititve claim.. .considering the variables i mentioned

simply implied I am surprised at her perspective.

I think we should pump the breaks a bit on proclaiming Crystal Dangerfield better than Mo. Mo made a lot of things look easy and may be (depending on your metrics) the greatest point guard in UConn WCBB history. Looking awesome in high school does not always equal looking awesome as a college freshman. The key for Crystal Dangerfield will be like it was for Mo, and that's to slow down. The game moves at warp speed for a freshman, never mind trying to make it go even faster which is what Mo did when she first got here.

I don't see any problems with Coach Cimino's comments. She was just telling Nan her opinions the way she sees them in a casual conversation. I would think a lot of coaches think that their is a good chance Connecticut will be back in the final 4 next year simply because they have been there 9 straight seasons. In the post Maya/Tina, pre Stewie/Mo/Tuck era a couple of those teams were similarly talented and still made final fours. I think Coach Cimino knows how good Geno is and what he can do with a team and they have as god of a chance as anybody, plus it was just said casually to a fan in an everyday conversation on a plane. As for the second part of her comments, I think she is a reliable source to comment on Molly due to her being a northeast area D1 head coach who has probably seen her play many times.

Um! I guess I had always assumed the Kib's BadAss award was in Kelly honor. If I'm going in a tough basketball spot Faris is my #1 over Barbara Turner IMO.

Although playing as Bahar Ozturk gives a certain edge to BT!

I'm just taken aback that anyone could imply criticism of Coach Cimino, even if mild, at what icebear correctly identified as casual chitchat. I was actually more interested in conveying her impressions of Molly than of the Final Four comment. Fans of other programs that I spoke to in Indy seemed to feel the same way, that UConn would be back.

Another comment by Coach Cimino was her admiration for Saniya Chong. She felt Saniya could have been a major player for any of the other Final Four teams but instead she opted to be a role player at UConn. She admired Saniya's character in putting her ego aside for the good of the team.

Yep. That was a pretty Boneyardy moment even for the Boneyard. I thought the comments were interesting. It was cool that she decided to chat with you a bit. Thanks for sharing them.

Good to hear this coach make that comment. Saniya would be a star on about 330 Div. I basketball teams, and a major contributor on about 20 more.

Who said Danger is going to be a better 4 year player than MoJeff?
