Burn it all down and rebuild. Another wasted season with no progress. Total . I'd give away my ticks next week but I'd have to pay somebody to take them.

There is no way I am going. Section 102, Row 5, Seats 15 and 16 will be empty.

at least its over. just think guys, only 1 more game left of the season. normally I'd be sad that the season was going to be over and I'd have to find something else to do with my Saturdays, but in this case, next week can't come soon enough

well gents, it only took boyle 23 and some change quarters to throw a td, so I'm guessing the next one we see will be sometime in the blue and white game? Maybe we'll gift SMU their first win of the season?
That won't be hard to do against our D backs

If we lose to SMU do you think we will see Warde on the field escorting the team into the tunnel at the end of the game?

Playing against much better teams. UM might be 6-1 but they've played a weak conference schedule. They are not that good. Temple level.

They had UCLA on the ropes and should have won.

He had the two killer fumbles against Tulane, but he is the closest thing to a game breaker on the roster. Find ways to get him the ball in space preferablly.

Arkeel is the perfect screen back because he has some speed, is shifty and follows blocks well. Still has work to do and not a track star but he should be playing.

Diaco: 1 minute left.... down 40-10(or something like that) decides to run it into the middle twice to kill the clock. What message does that send to anybody...everybody?

Spring blue/white scrimmages are supposed to be a preview of what the fans should expect next season. Coach... that's your next sales pitch. Make it a good one.

It seems that the team often plays better offensively after the planned and prepared game plan has been totally shredded (and all to often humiliated in the process) and the coaching staff is having to just wing it. It is amazing how often they can gain a few more yards when after 3+ quarters and down a zillion to 3 they decide to open up the playbook and throw someone like DeLorenzo in, or call for plays that actually get yardage. Maybe it is because the game is already out of reach and the defense is playing more lax, but maybe it is because the UCONN game plan is predicable and plays into the game plan the opposing defense has prepared for all week.

TJ was desparate to win last year and he foolishly thought that actual victories could save his job. After attempting everything else, he eventually tried the 3rd string quarterback, eventually ending the season with a 3 game winning streak. The growth and confidence of that team during that streak was visible even to a half-wit (moi). Maybe that sense of desparation is what the current coaching staff needs to call an effective game plan. Being out coached and humiliated on TV every week may not be the optimal way to attract better talent. But then again I accept that I could be wrong on that score, but it is definitely not the way to attract more fans.

I thought that one of the problems this year, was that UCONN could not establish any offensive identity. Try this for one series of downs, and once that fails then try this for the next series - ad nauseam. There was a time UCONN used to be the under-talented team that played smash mouth, in your face football, often surprising and upsetting more heralded programs. But I now have come the conclusion the lack of offensive identity in reality showcases the identity of the coaching staff. They really aren't sure what sort offensive team they want, and the offensive struggles reflect that dilema. Perhaps, they want to develop an offensive strategy that the current team does not have the ability to execute. But win or lose try something and then stick with it and then over time recruit the players to execute it. The fans are likely to be more supportive if they can actually understand what the coaching staff is trying to do.

Being gentlemen, the coaching staff did repay Memphis for the beat down UCONN put on them last year, and with interest. It has often been claimed on this board that TJ won because UCONN had lots of talent and Memphis did not. Maybe so, but the lack of visible growth on them team throughout the season makes that argument less than convincing. If Memphis can turn it around in one year then so can UCONN. So next year, no excuses, only a respectable number of victories will count towards establishing the validity of the coaching staff.

Excellent post. Not everyone may agree with all your points, but certainly worth pondering.

Well the reason they play better down a billion points is because they are playing the second and third string who are just playing base coverages and trying not to give up big plays.

Thanks housekeys. I should have mentioned that I fully support Diaco getting at least one more year to build the team in the mold he deems fit. But as the season progresses I get more alarmed at the lack of improvement and development on the team. That being said, Ron Johnson and Arkeel Newsome are going to be studs at running back. So I am expecting major improvment in the win loss record next year.
