“Things are off and running in the Silas Demary sweepstakes. The highly touted Georgia guard with two years to play has heard from many of the top schools in the country and is now headed out to take his first two visits.

Per a 247Sports source, Demary will start his week at St. John's being on campus on Monday and then is will head to see Danny Hurley and the UConn Huskies.”

Looks like a good offensive player and very athletic. How is his defense?
I don't know about the metrics but here's what the 247Sports guys said about him.

Silas Demary Jr. to the portal is significant news that rival coaches have been waiting for. The 6-foot-5 lead guard was one of the best players in the SEC down the stretch, spurring the Dawgs into an at-large, NCAA Tournament bid. A two-year starter in Athens, Demary offers terrific positional size and two-way ability. He's a tough, physical combo guard who can play on and off the ball. A really good defender, Demary blossomed as a sophomore at Georgia while improving his shooting and decision-making.

I think our search starts and stops here for our guard slot. I hope he sees how Pitino just loves his guys like Luis and Kentucky and Pope are much to do about nothing. At some point you hope the transfers value the learning experience and training for the next level as the bag itself.

Would be/will be surrounded by shooters in Storrs- Pressure would be off of him to take contested shots and instead have an offensive scheme/sets that will provide him plenty of open looks through the flow of our offense. Looks like a disruptive defender that can pressure opponent's shooters/3 pt line ala UConn Steph. He and Tarris could be a devastating PnR duo. Swing for the fences on Tuesday.

Does anyone know if this is true?

That we have a more pro-style offense or the money?

Offense: objectively true.

NIL: I can't speak about this specifically. But SJU is ponying up above market rate for kids right now. We do know that.

Not everyone who is 6-5 can be Newton.

I am just looking at stats and analytics - I haven’t seen him play. But I just don’t see him as a full time point guard. Versatile piece who can play 1-3 and defend, yes. And I think he’d be worth it on that alone. We need a perimeter defensive stopper too, and someone who checks every box is going to be almost impossible - so two different perimeter guys who each check some of the boxes would be a good plan.

But if we think we can plug him in to our system and expect him to be Newton, I think we are doing the square peg and round hole thing all over again with a different type of player. We don’t have Diarra off the bench any more if it doesn’t work.

The kid averaged 13/4/3 in the SEC.
