Anyone know if we have interest in Miller's teammate, Galal Cancer? He's also graduating and is a 5th-year eligible.

6-foot-2 combo guard who averaged 9 pts/ 3.5 rebs/ 3.0 assists as a starter last year. Shot 39% overall, 38% from 3 and 81% from the line.
5-25 against South Carolina, Penn State and Syracuse. Sign me up. LOL! I don't think we are going after this level of player. I know we have fallen a little but Miller is more the exception than the rule for most Ivy League talent.

This kid and the Dartmouth kid just aren't UConn level players, it would be a waste of a scholly.

Putting up those numbers as a No. 1 or 2 option is vastly different than coming in as 10 mpg 3-point specialist. We're not going to be asking the 12th man on our team to generate offense; we're going to ask him to hit the occasional open shot and not turn the ball over.

I think Mitola could contribute at this level. He's not going to be a star, but he's a ballhandler and can shoot. I'd rather have Ennis, but Mitola is better than Samuel or Cassell were this year. Cancer would be a waste of a roster spot.

We already have that in SC and to a lesser extent TS. No way we want to stop their development for a lateral move that will only be here one year. I mean if we can't get anyone else maybe but right now it isn't worth the scholarship at this stage. He just isn't UCONN material.

What's the alternative? I'm all for trying to recruit the best players possible, but when it comes down to it would you rather have a D1 player or nobody in the 12th man slot?

Disagree, Mitola wouldn't even be able to get his shot off at this level. He's a smaller not as good version of Jaren Sina.

Well let's see what KO is doing on that front. Right now we are in the dark besides knowing about SM and TH coming here for visits. I'm sure they are the main target right now with a pickup of a guard as another want. Too early to tell if that will be a transfer or a decommit.

I don't see why Mitola would have any issues getting a three off at this level. He has a quick release, and the ideal set-up is for him to be an off-the-ball option. It's not like he's going to be taking pull-up threes off the bounce.

I don't think the issue with Mitola is shooting, but defending.

Oh, you'd definitely have to hide him on defense. By no means am I suggesting that Mitola is without flaws. But we're running out of options. I'd still prefer Ennis, but I don't know if he's going anywhere that he won't be promised starter's minutes.

Because it's very difficult for a 5'10 guy with very limited athleticism to get his shot off at this level. As stated above defense would be a huge issue for hm.

Nope.

He's from the Albany area and probably would do well for a MAAC school, but they tend not to have a ton of post-grad options.

I just saw that Shonn Miller was out the entire 13-14 season. I'm not sure if its been discussed on here but could or did he get a medical redshirt or whatever the term for that is?

He's used 3 years of eligibility, so its implicit he has a redshirt year which is why hes available post grad in the first place.

Let's go for rent-a-player, Shonn Miller come on down! Let's lock him up on his visit.

BC starting to get some Crystal Ball movement on Shawntrez Davis, a 2015 PF from Georgia. If they land him he'd be their second PF/C in this class, joining Jeremy Miller.

I think Miller would start over either, but it can't hurt our chances that schools supposedly in the running for him keep signing other PFs.

EDIT: My bad - Jeremy Miller went elsewhere. Still, though.

Yeah, I guess I don't see it. If he's not going to be creating his own shot, it seems like the only thing that matters is how quickly he can take it. I'd love to hear an explanation otherwise.

I don't think he'll end up in a UConn uniform, but catch and shoot/spot up shooters don't get their own shot off. They either run off one or more screens, rely on ball movement and shifting defenses caught out of position, or rely on their defender leaving to help.

A lot of "experts" here who've decided that a mediocre Ivy League guard could probably be useful taking minutes from a guard who, while he can't shoot, contributed greatly to a national championship run.

If you saw this discussion on another board, and hadn't gone overboard hating T Sam's game, wouldn't you think these people were idiots?

After what happened this summer, I can not believe that people on here continue to reference the Crystal Ball's.

I was hooked checking 247 for months to see the trends/ movements in crystal balls until i finally woke up and realized they are completely and utterly useless.

I hear you, and I'm still a big fan of T-Sam's.

The problem is that Samuel does not complement the current roster structure very well. It's possible that whatever transfer in question (I don't even know) may be an inferior player to T-Sam while also a better fit. Both things can be true.

Granted, it's also possible that Purvis, Hamilton, and Calhoun become much better shooters and this isn't a problem. But if Hamilton and Purvis continue to shoot 34 and 36%, respectively, the remaining minutes may be better allotted to a specialist.

I watched Samuel play this year. He can't handle well enough to play the point, and he can't shoot well enough to play the 2. The player in question can both handle and shoot better than Samuel.
