Shoni is very lucky another team was willing to take a chance on her. I agree with what many of you said, in that the Liberty really don't lose much by gambling on her, given 2nd round picks rarely make rosters. That being said, I hope Shoni realizes she is probably on very thin ice, and this is the equivalent of a life line being thrown to her. Were she not such a popular player with the ability to put butts in the seats, she may not get this second chance. The onus is squarely on her to not squander this opportunity.
She, as well as her sister Jude, have been torch bearers for the Native community. They have a platform to really impact their people in a very positive way. Jude is a stellar representative of all things one would want to strive for. Academically she is very gifted, she already has her Masters degree, she has penned a book. She is committed to her health and to furthering her craft. She continues to represent in every way possible every positive attribute one could want. Yet, Shoni has all the fanfare. When asked about the Schimmel's time at Louisville I would always reference Jude as my favorite Schimmel. Certainly not as flashy, or as talented. Yet, a far greater role model.
I wish Shoni nothing but the best. I hope she can find her way, and find the discipline needed to maintain a professional career. I am firmly in the camp that Jude's presence kept Shoni on track, or close to on track (she struggled with weight in college, too). Now that life has them in different directions, I see her struggle being greater.
