With Vandy getting pummeled by Ole Miss, down 24 in the 4th qtr, Blakes picks up her 4th personal foul. Shea subsequently gets tossed as she comes out on the court, screaming at the officials. Obviously, she needed someone like Geno has in CD to restrain her and wrestle her back to the bench. 😉

Explain the rules to me…Did Shea get ejected with only one technical or was that her second one?

.-.
Totally embarrassing for Shea and for Vandy. I didn't watch the whole game but I couldn't believe the score at the half nor Shea getting tossed near the end...

Check this out = at the half Ole Miss 49 Vanderbilt 17 !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ole Miss scores 25 then 24, Vandy 6 then 11. OH MY!!!

3/6/2026: Ole Miss vs. Vanderbilt
  • 2 Technical Fouls on Vandy @9:25 (4th) after Blakes’ 4th foul call, Vandy behind 43-69 after FTMs.
  • The final score is misleading.

She was ejected for coming out on the court and screaming at the official. I don’t think the refs were counting up technical fouls. If they were Shea had 5 or 6 at least. 😎
Mulkey should get jacked about every game for this. At one time today she was almost 2 feet on the court with the ball about 10 feet away while an official was 5 feet from her and he didn't even look at her. She and Schaefer are allowed to do whatever they want.

Shea was a good 10-15 feet out on the court, in the face of the official. Not everything she learned from Geno is worth emulating. 😉

It was a one time thing and she knew what she was doing. As coach YO said post game, it was a vet move to motivate. Mulkey gets away with it every game. And now I'm just waiting for Schaefer to pull his coat yanking act and start doing the same thing if the score gets close.

Vandy did close a 32 point halftime deficit to just 12 points. Certainly Shea can take some solace in the fact that Vandy never gave up. But in the end it was a bridge too far.

Totally unexpected. Where was her defense and what happened to Blakes? Shea being tossed didn't look good for her. BUT, there is still the NCAA National Championship and a chance for Shea to redeem herself and the players a chance to prove they belong. with the BIG boys.

She had coaches restraining her, just not fast enough.

They got 4 free throws and the ball and it wasn’t a shooting foul and Vandy wasn’t over the limit. 2 techs

The foul was one of those- the player dives on the floor after a loose ball and by so doing knocks the opposing player down. I think Ash had one of them recently and Sarah, over by the sidelines.
I think they may need to look at the rule. In this case, Blakes dove, secured the ball and then the other player was upended.
First instinct is that, the ball was loose and the aggressive player recovers the ball, both players going after the ball, play on.

No Blakes didn't recover the ball, the other player was actually dribbling as Blakes undercut her. You could see from Blakes reaction she knew she had committed a foul. That gets called 10 times out of 10. Doesn't matter if it is a loose ball or not, dive and undercut a player you get called for the foul.

Didn't watch the game so I have no idea what had come before during the game, but I suspect Shea was wound tight already by her team's play and perhaps from the refs

They have already proven they can play with the BIG boys.

I don't agree. It's part of the growth process for Shea and her team. They are transitioning from not very good to very good. There are going to be setbacks and speedbumps. Sticking up for her players while blowing off some steam during a bad shooting game goes with the territory sometimes. I suspect they will regain their composure and effectiveness in the NCAA's.

I see your point and agree. In one of the 'round table' discussions on the
SECN (after the completion of all the SEC games) one commentator remarked how Ralph Shea's ejection was an effective motivating move by a purposeful H.C. ( my translation ). In that context (and I think a possible/probably one) Shea got
her team to perform at the level she knew that they were capable of and it
should ignite their sense of "we will learn from this...". Reminds me of
the "good loss" that UCONN had last year from TENNESSEE.... and we all
know how that turned out! BTW: Charley Creme's revised Bracket has
UCONN #1 in Fort Worth and Vanderbilt #2 (it was published last night
around 11:30 PM). Now, THAT IS A (potential) GAME NOT TO BE MISSED!

Maybe that’s the difference. Shea is still young and quick enough to evade her coaching staff. Geno’s an old man who meanders out on the court. In addition he’s smaller than CD & Jamelle and not nearly strong enough to prevent them from dragging him back to the bench…… 😊

Disappointed she didn’t bring Blakes out to the post-game. That could have been a growth opportunity for her?
