OT: Shea gets tossed

Totally embarrassing for Shea and for Vandy. I didn't watch the whole game but I couldn't believe the score at the half nor Shea getting tossed near the end...
I don't agree. It's part of the growth process for Shea and her team. They are transitioning from not very good to very good. There are going to be setbacks and speedbumps. Sticking up for her players while blowing off some steam during a bad shooting game goes with the territory sometimes. I suspect they will regain their composure and effectiveness in the NCAA's.

I see your point and agree. In one of the 'round table' discussions on the
SECN (after the completion of all the SEC games) one commentator remarked how Ralph Shea's ejection was an effective motivating move by a purposeful H.C. ( my translation ). In that context (and I think a possible/probably one) Shea got
her team to perform at the level she knew that they were capable of and it
should ignite their sense of "we will learn from this...". Reminds me of
the "good loss" that UCONN had last year from TENNESSEE.... and we all
know how that turned out! BTW: Charley Creme's revised Bracket has
UCONN #1 in Fort Worth and Vanderbilt #2 (it was published last night
around 11:30 PM). Now, THAT IS A (potential) GAME NOT TO BE MISSED!

She had coaches restraining her, just not fast enough.
Maybe that’s the difference. Shea is still young and quick enough to evade her coaching staff. Geno’s an old man who meanders out on the court. In addition he’s smaller than CD & Jamelle and not nearly strong enough to prevent them from dragging him back to the bench…… 😊

Disappointed she didn’t bring Blakes out to the post-game. That could have been a growth opportunity for her?

With Vandy getting pummeled by Ole Miss, down 24 in the 4th qtr, Blakes picks up her 4th personal foul. Shea subsequently gets tossed as she comes out on the court, screaming at the officials. Obviously, she needed someone like Geno has in CD to restrain her and wrestle her back to the bench. 😉
Stomping onto the court and hollering at officials has always worked for us. --Kim Mulkey and Dawn Staley

Shea has her players’ backs. I doubt that Blakes would have wanted to come out during the postgame and face a barrage of questions about her miserable 1st half performance, her 4 fouls or Vandy’s disappointing loss to Ole Miss.

She did the right thing. Down 22 points, she had nothing to lose. I love that she got so fired up, but I think her husband has to take on the CD role and keep her out of trouble. This loss will get her a #2 seed in the NCAA tournament. They will be fired up to make a NC run; hope they are not in our bracket.

Plus she’s never done it before. Probably the staff didn’t expect it. Geno’s staff can see it coming.

Also during her postgame comments, Shea said, “Nothing has changed” pointing towards Vandy’s pursuit of a national championship. I think that’s not quite correct. Had Vandy won yesterday and again today against TX, they likely would have earned a #1 seed, giving the Commodores a much easier path to the FF.

As it stands now, Vandy appears to be heading for the #2 seed in UConn’s region, something no team really wants. Should a Vandy-UConn matchup occur in the Elite 8, I have no doubt it will generate great excitement. But at the end of the day the teacher will likely give the student a new lesson or two on what it takes to get to the FF.

Creme's bracketology on 3/7 has Vandy now as the number 2 in UConn's region, with LSU moving over to UCLA's bracket. No one should be surprised by that. I know Vandy is dangerous but I would prefer them over LSU.

He now has Oklahoma as the number 4 in UConn's region and Ohio State as number 3. Oklahoma did beat South Carolina at home in overtime but otherwise, not much on the resume.

Texas seems to me to have the easiest path under his bracketology with Iowa, Louisville and Minnesota in the Texas bracket.

The biggest variable at this point is how the rest of the SEC Tournament plays out. Ole Miss is currently a (dangerous) 5 seed in his South Carolina bracket. As a UConn fan, I hope South Carolina wins the SEC and stays as the third (or possibly even second) number one seed.

This game reminded me of the difficult loss we had against Ohio State and Cotie McMahon a few years ago. The OSU pressing defense caused us to turn over the ball too many times. I am confident Geno has worked on the press with the current team.

Vandy has to work on this, particularly if they get to face UConn ball pressure in the elite eight.

Vandy is an upstart. The SEC high command does not tolerate upstarts. The refs have always been shall we say strongly influenced by the high command.

Can’t argue the first point, as is the case with most coaches, save a few we won’t mention. As to Blake’s wanting or not, again agree on the point made, but at some point in time, all the good ones, both on and off the court, have to face the music.

Yandy was ranked national 5 before this game. They will certainly drop notches...I do wonder if it is possible that they drop all the way to national #9...a 3 seed ....not just due to the loss but they were embarrassed especially in the first half.
Possibly Vandy goes to national 8...worst 2 seed...and plays the best 3 seed. Or goes to best 3 seed and plays the worst 2 seed?
Different uniforms and that's it.

Vandy will remain a 2 seed. In Charlie Crème’s latest update after last night’s game, he has Vandy as a #2 seed in UConn’s region, #7 overall.

It was a foul on Blakes. Vandy was getting torched in the game.

They were not even competitive. The UConn women's game might be closer at the half today. There is no need for conspiratorial refs.
