Smart has turned into an average at best in game coach on both sides of the court. He has all the ingredients though to bring in the type of recruiting classes that put an end to the Kansas will win the Big12 every year mentality. It will be interesting to see if he backs off the Havoc Style now that his potential gene pool for talent increases. If A & M can land the class they just got then Texas & Smart should have a field day.Heckuva hire for Texas. Rick Barnes held that program back for so long, the athletic department was doing the college basketball universe a favor by keeping him around for so long. I imagine Smart will take that program to new heights since he can actually, you know, coach during a basketball game. We know recruiting won't be an issue.
You have to expect a major fall out from his departure causing that program to live in basketball purgatory for the next 100 years. The statement being...even with a 25M practice facility being built and 2 top recruiting classes in consecutive years it is evident VCU has become nothing more than a proving ground. Smart ditched them and left the program to literally die.
