Daniels has the same vertical as Aaron Craft? I don't know what to make of these numbers. With such a great vert how come Shabazz didn't dunk one time in 4 years?
Here's my guess but I really have no idea....
I think they measure the vertical off two feet without taking a step. Or at most they give you one step then jump off two feet.
The issue with that is some people are better one foot jumpers than two foot jumpers.
So Bazz may be a better two foot jumper than a one foot jumper, in terms of being able to get pure height. So he has a high vertical but the thing about being a two foot jumper is you need to gather and collect to dunk nicely. It's very hard for a PG to have that type of open space with the speed of the college game.
That said, Boatright is a two foot jumper and he dunks all the time...But IMO that is because his vert is probably in the high 40's. Which is insane.
37" at 5' 11" is not gonna get you very many dunk opportunities in the college game, IF your primarily a two foot jumper.
Another example is myself. I had about a 33 or 34" vert in HS and stood 6'2" but the problem was I was a two foot jumper, so I never had an opportunity to dunk in a game even though in open space I could dunk pretty nicely. My problem was that off one foot I couldn't jump high at all. I could only hang on the rim off one foot for some reason. But off two feet I could jump the highest on the team.
DD probably is a better one foot jumper than a two feet jumper. In fact I know he is bc if you go back and watch all his best dunks, he jumps off one foot. This makes DD a good "game-dunker" bc one foot jumper's need less open space to throw it down. So even though his two foot vert is not very high his ability to jump both high and quick off one foot allowed him to be a nice finisher for us. I mean, other than the fact that he is also 6'9".
But my guess is if Bazz was as good as a one-foot jumper as DD then Bazz would have dunked in some games.
