I had an appointment earlier today and had the chance to speak with someone who's son is friends with Wenyen. This person had nothing but nice things to say about him from first hand experience. This person said her son knows Wenyens preference but he can't/won't tell anyone. This person told me that Uconn was very unlikely. They couldn't stress enough what a good.person he was though. I am definitely not an insider. Just happened to have an unexpected conversation this morning. Just thought I'd pass it along.

Listen here Dude! You are bat * crazy and i don't believe a word you are saying! I don't know if this is true or totally made up!

I wouldn't put it past someone to knock WG but I think at this point, everyone who follows recruiting even a little knows we are a very long shot.

It's all good. We can't win them all although it seems we are on wuite a hot streak. I still believe we have a chance with him from what Ozzie said and my own opinion, but if we don't get him it's alright, we have a loaded front line for next season as it is, not the end of the world

Recruiting is casting a wide net, and hoping for multiple species. In the 2016 class, we already caught our limit for that species. The only species we really like to exceed our limit on is point guards.

We already received a commitment from a Wenyen Gabriel type. His name is Juwan Durham. The ship has sailed. Not sure why anyone would care if he ends up at Duke or Md?
shouldn't we hope he attends the impossible (Providence)? If we're not to get him, but we wanted him, isn't it ideal for him to go somewhere that being a star doesn't hurt us? (Thinking Ryan Gomes here).

I would almost rather see him be the next Duke lottery pick than give those PC fans one inch of satisfaction.

I understand, but I caught that key word of "almost." I just loved Calhoun's response of the criticism for not landing Gomes. Wasn't it something like "we got Emeka, and he's pretty good, too?" Or maybe he included Ben as well. But it was hysterical.

So Huerter just committed to Maryland, does that change anything with the WG recruitment? Listening to their fans pumping their chests and saying Turgeon is now gonna go lock up Gabriel and 5* Josh Jackson like its in the bag already is painful, recruiting like a blue blood overnight? Right, UA$.

I do kind of expect them to land Gabriel at this point. His recruitment mirrors Stone's a little bit, where Maryland was an afterthought at first but then picked up late momentum.

It'll make beating them this year that much sweeter.

It must be hurting Cuse that they didn't get Huerter, he was a major target of their's. For that, I'm fine. I agree with Matrim in his comparison to the Stone recruitment, although I don't think we were ever the trending leader with Gabriel the way we were last summer and fall with Stone.

Edit: Cuse had been out of Huerter since mid-August, so I was off there. Still though, I hope it hurts them to see a very good player from upstate NY leaving the area!

Syr didn't have a scholarship for him, don't really think they care too much

The scholarship limits took them out of the game a while back. But trust me, this one hurts them. Kid was in their backyard and up until the NCAA ruling, they thought he was a given. But for Cuse, this is just the beginning of reality bites.

IIRC Cuse wanted him for 2017 and not 2016.

We're you at a car wash by chance?

I don't see why we were never in the lead with WG. I feel as though at one point we must have been a top option in his mind when he was relatively unheralded as a recruit on the scouting sites and we were his local team as well as having just signed his teammate and close friend quite recently.

Isn't Durham a 4/5, and Gabriel a 3/4? Plus, won't Uconn have 5-9 spots open? They should have room for both.

Just hours apart and not much insight to go with his tweets. Hopefully he makes it out of the weekend without committing but its looking less and less likely.

In my UConn dreams we close on Gabriel and get Powell too for his outside shooting prowess. But, I can see the redundancy of having Larrier and Durham in the fold affecting Wenyen's decision. I do however see them in my mind's eye all playing together as a trio of tall, lengthy, positionless forwards who can all score, shoot and defend. Those three (plus Enoch and Diarra of course) with Gilby and Jalen all running and gunning would be complete havoc on both ends.

We are getting closer and closer to probably seeing KO's full vision of what he wants his teams to be I would guess. Skill and athleticism in all facets of the game. Will be really interesting to see how all this evolves over the next few recruiting cycles.
