Seton HeII Post Game Thread

Lost in this is that Alex actually made some outside shots and scored. But we just couldn’t inbound the ball. I’m seeing too many stationary guys on our inbounds plays. We need to run more stacked plays with a couple of screeners. We are spaced out all over the floor but generally one or two of those guys are standing still. It’s insane. I never saw that with Hawk and Cam. I don’t recognize this type of execution on inbounding compared to recent years.
We have been throwing it into the corner on inbounds for years. Our guards could usually get themselves out of a trap.

This isn’t a loss to Seton Hall in December or January, not to mention Seton Hall is a lot worse this year.

2 major fouls against Liam and Ball. Just can’t allow that. And, yes, the game management and execution was horrific and inexcusable. Should never have been in that position.
Hep that is what I said in Chat

Shockingly bad loss.

Not being able to inbound the basketball is ridiculous.

Solo no-call is ridiculous.

Reed not playing is ridiculous.

We need a hard ass reset.
Liam singlehandedly won the last game. Instead of all the limelight being on Liam coach decided to get into it with the few remaining Creighton fans.

I don't mind being cocky but he's taking it to horses arse levels and he doesn't have the team to back it up. He had a confident swagger last season because he had a bunch of NBA players and uniquely savvy kids who could blow everyone out. Now his mouth is writing checks...

Have a damn inbounds play, have a damn play to throw it into your big for a bucket when the other team doesn't have any bigs. Play your most talented big.

I love the guy but he needs to be humbled. We're seeing someone who is too arrogant and too stubborn right now.

He is. This is what normally happens after back to back championships.
Why is that? Shouldn't teams bring in any recruits they want after two titles? Or did he fail in player evaluations? Maybe not win another title, but a Sweet 16 doesn't seem like too much to ask. Missing the tournament is a horrible job by the coach.

We lost 4 starters and moved the guy who was 5th in our depth chart to first. We relied on two career bench guys to man our pg and center position. The pg can’t shoot and the center can’t rebound. We were overly reliant on a freshman and a bunch of sophomores who didn’t play the year before. All while having the target of b2b national champs on our back. The writing was always on the wall. This was a rebuild year. It’s clear now.

Hurley gets a pass this season. He’s more than earned that. But we need to construct a better more cohesive roster next season.

When Ball missed his second free-throw with 18 seconds to go, why did we let Wusu score on a simple layup taking only six seconds off the clock? Literally unimpeded.

I understand don’t do stupid fouls, but that doesn’t mean don’t play any defense whatsoever.

A layup is way easier than two free throws, especially with a guy who shoots 65% from the line.

The game was lost because we played to their style and tempo. Need to dictate tempo when on the road against an inferior opponent with nothing to lose.

Alex is generally the inbounder because he’s a good passer and makes good decisions. He’s also not a very twitchy athlete that could easily get open against his man. I don’t think the fault lies with him. We don’t have the same level of athletes to inbound to but we also seem much more stationary and stagnant out there. Hawk and Spencer were relentless in getting open.

Guys none of this matters. We aren’t good. A legitimately good team is going to curb stomp us in the tournament. The BE just sucks. All of our “big” OOC wins kind of suck too. This is the truth. I’m there.
I've been able to enjoy most games this year knowing we kind of stink but this is still awful. It's mid February and we look atrocious. Everyone is lost including the staff.

People blaming this on Hurley are delusional. The whole team executed poorly all game long. At all aspects of the game. Deserved to lose.

Potential season-crusher of a loss.
It is on Hurley.

His teams have had trouble inbounding the ball for years. How any times had Karaban had to call time out trying to inbounds the ball this year. It has to approaching a dozen.

How many other teams in the whole NCAA cannot inbounds the ball without turning it over? If they ca do it why can't we?

Hurley doesn't escape responsibility for this. He has to fix it. But it may have cost him a tourney bid because he let it go so long.

Yeah I think this is the most reasonable take. The Big East might not even get one team into the second weekend

So my stream had a super lag and I SWEAR someone in the chat said “that’s game” and I turned everything off cuz I needed to run out. It was 58-53. What happened?

We just can’t execute the basics at all, we got heroics against Marquette and Creighton but can’t follow it up with basics.

Hurley needs to own this one. i dont want any whining about the fans complaining, the refs missing calls, blah blah... the game came down to needing to execute 1 of 5 in bounds plays and none worked.
Better yet just don’t talk.

Embarrassing. Horrible. Travesty. Shameful.

Perfect description of the Big East and the officiating crew.

UConn did not play well, but they win walking in their sleep if the game was properly officiated.
Last sentence would have some merit if we hadn't also lost to colorado before. Having good refs doesn't change the fact that this team is severely limited and mentally fragile.

Don’t want to hear the obvious refs suck this is a pitiful loss. Up 7 with 30 seconds left and Ball fouls a crappy 3 or shooter, up 5 and Diarra just lets his guy get a lay in??? This is not UConn basketball this is pitiful.
And maybe our coach needs to stop telling refs to quit turning their backs on him and yelling at fans and pointing at his 2 rings and proving he’s a great coach. Because this team isn’t good down the stretch ever and they are dreadful getting the ball in bounds consistently all year.

Worst loss since Calhoun started!!!

This was the biggest issue, IMO. The game was played at their style and pace. We did nothing to try to change that.
