UConn too much for Seton Hall as Huskies move to 21-0
By Ray Floriani ( @rfloriani ) SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. — The game was moved up a day due to an impending storm set to strike the Northeast . As...
Dickie V was most definitely responsible for the expression, “Cupcake City Baby!”I blame it all on Dickie V, baby! He blew out the traditional broadcasting.
To taste non-commentary basketball whenever you want, press that mute button on your remote. Works very well. 😄Peacock had technical difficulties to start the third quarter. So, I got a taste of non-commentary basketball. And it was kind of enjoyable tbh 😂
Madden and Summerall had it exactly correct. Excellent play-by-play and real colorful color. The original Monday night football would have been OK, but Dandy Don ruined it.I blame it all on Dickie V, baby! He blew out the traditional broadcasting.
And regrettably "diaper dandies".Dickie V was most definitely responsible for the expression, “Cupcake City Baby!”
I don't believe skeets meant NCAA Tourney. IMO there were some fans that didn't think the reg season would be as good too. This regular season cake walk isn't the test. If there's a drop off, it'll be seen in the last 3 rounds of the NC tournament. That's where her biggest value was, the safety valve.
Its pushing pace of play. Sure they can play better. But when you press and play at such a fast pace in which a lot of your offense is 3pt shooting, they will struggle at times with this pace. They aren't pros. Think of what Geno said about Blanca and expanding it; he said I'll accept the bad plays because there are are so much more amazing plays coming from her. It's the same when they press, they will accept the open shots by the other team because in the long run they expect many more positive defensive plays vs open shots. You live with the droughts when you are playing this fast and this efficiently..What is it if not sputtering? That is what many fans are complaining about. When UConn starts playing to their potential you will see the number of missed layups and free throws drop and three-point shooting overall, improve. Their long scoring droughts will disappear.
A long time ago, a single play-by-play announcer did the entire game without the assistance of 1-2 color commentators, sideline reporters or a pre & postgame studio crew. Some of the very best announcers in sports like Red Barber, Lindsey Allen, Keith Jackson & Marv Albert all got their start as solitary sports reporters.

Geno said he and Blanca had a long session (film?) very recently, but he did not want to go too hard on stuff that might get in her head and slow her down. Then he said something along the lines of living with a mistake for the 10 things that are amazing.
I wasn't talking about which team was better. The point is the difference between having Bueckers or not. I'm saying that if her absence is going to be felt, it would be during the most critical games of the year when the potential for actually losing would be the highest against the best teams in the country. That she was the ultimate difference maker IF they had really needed her in a close game, which of course it turned out that they didn't. I've got a feeling that they may need that rock steady confidence and clutch play this season if/when it comes down to those last 3 games.I don't believe skeets meant NCAA Tourney. IMO there were some fans that didn't think the reg season would be as good too.
If we are to look at only those 3 games, then arguably there never was a team greater than last year. But I don't think that was his point.
Me, too. And I’m watching MI v USC before the Vandy game!Speak for yourself. There are many UConn fans that are also BIG fans of WBB, who watch lots of teams play. Today, in addition to watching the NFL playoffs, I also plan to watch the other undefeated team, Vanderbilt, against SC.
Remind me, who was the final 4 MOP? ;^)This regular season cake walk isn't the test. If there's a drop off, it'll be seen in the last 3 rounds of the NC tournament. That's where her biggest value was, the safety valve.
Read it again. Didn’t say she was an MOP. Said she was the safety valve in case she was needed. We’ll see if they need one this year.Remind me, who was the final 4 MOP? ;^)
Spot on (as always).I’ve written about this before.
Through the years, there was a relentless push to add more reporters to sports broadcasts. The problem is that all these additional reporters need to justify their paychecks by talking. The end result is that the reporting teams get lost in the tall grass, talking ad nauseum about background stories, personal nonsense and whatever comes into their head, losing the play-by-play call of the game.
You don't think last year's MOP can provide a safety valve if needed?Read it again. Didn’t say she was an MOP. Said she was the safety valve in case she was needed. We’ll see if they need one this year.
Suddenly I have developed an urge for a Chunky bar.On the lighter side, I can’t stop seeing Arnold Stang whenever I look at Anthony Bozzella.

Earlier today I watched the Syracuse - UNC game played in Durham and televised on the ACC network. Due to bad weather, very few fans made the game, maybe a few hundred. Apparently, the announcers didn’t make it either. But there was a camera crew and PA system that played music during timeouts, etc.Spot on (as always).
I wish there was more dead air time on the broadcasts. If nothing else, it would give me much needed relief. Yeah, I know, I could turn the sound off, but I keep it on in the hope, often dashed, that they actually report who the last foul was on.
I think they are deathly afraid of dead air time. Red Barber certainly was not. Less is more. Nice to hear the crowd reactions from time to time. And if you are going to go on a tangent, play pretend coach, extoll the virtues of a particular player, etc., don't drone on and on - in most cases, you can get in and out of it in 25 words or less. Not that hard.
And a brief mention is fine, but we aren't all that interested in your playing/coaching career. For example, Bill Raftery, one of the best in the business IMHO, will refer briefly and vaguely to his undistinguished coaching career with a humorous, self-deprecating comment or two, and that is it.
I am fine with two (but not three) on a broadcast, as long as they are good at it and don't go overboard in trying to create "chemistry" at the expense of missing what is happening on the court. With all of the games being played and broadcast, I'm not sure there are enough good ones to go around.
It’s great to watch as many games as possible. But relative to St Johns, they beat Nova by 13. UConn beat Nova by 49.I watched St John look every bit as good as UConn did in beating Villanova. I have watched every good team out there and even some of the weaker teams. How else can one make fair comparisons?
I agree with you. I just didn't think that was what skeets was saying. But yes ofc Paige would be an amazing safety net. It's just that during this reg season this team is better. The last 3 games from E8 to fianls if they get there? I doubt this team will be better dtstidtically. But whether we talk "micro" or "macro" - last night was just another tremendous game. I've always been a short bench advocate - but this year other than Sarah and Azzi, but this year as for everyone else, overall we're just so damn good. There just isn't much dropoff with the others where in the past I thought it was pretty big.I wasn't talking about which team was better. The point is the difference between having Bueckers or not. I'm saying that if her absence is going to be felt, it would be during the most critical games of the year when the potential for actually losing would be the highest against the best teams in the country. St Johns isn't in UCONN league. It’s great to watch as many games as possible. But relative to St Johns, they beat Nova by 13. UConn beat Nova by 49.

That was my pointSt Johns isn't in UCONN league.
I'm not sure. Maybe you'll get a chance to find out if and when the pressure is on. Last year's stats in a couple of blowouts don't guarantee anything. You don't think last year's MOP can provide a safety valve if needed?
