Also, I think calling a game play by play is becoming a lost art. Most are just chatting it up with the color commentator, sometimes about the team, sometimes not. It's like sitting in a movie theater with two annoying people sitting behind you.

Couldnt agree more. It wouldnt be so bad if they bothered to interrupt themselves to explain a foul or other calls by the refs that are not visually obvious on the tv screen.😠

During halftime I was having a conversation about doing something next Sunday in the early afternoon. I had forgotten the schedule. Another UCONN fan overheard me, and seeing my clothing said " The Tennessee game is on then". We are everywhere, everywhere I tell you.

After the game, while still at our seats, two fans in front of me were discussing next Sunday's Hall game vs Creighton, that Seton Hall could really beat them (which i agreed with) and how they would be there for it. I noticed that one of the men had UCONN clothing on and reminded him that next Sunday UCONN was playing Tennessee. Between the three of us, it was eventually determined that we could watch the noon game vs Tennessee and then drive to South Orange and probably make the tipoff for the Hall/Creighton game at 3.

What totally kills me (and yes the seasons early and they have won nothing yet) but after 21 games this might be the most dominate team in UCONN history. Stats, record, margin of victory, defense, presure etc and people still complain (nit pick). Take a chill pill. We will be just fine.

In addition to watching UConn with a “super critical viewpoint,” many UConn fans don’t watch other teams with the same level of circumspection. To such people I strongly suggest watching a UCLA, TX, SC or LSU game closely to see just how many mistakes those teams make in a game.

They get stuck on offense at times forcing bad shots and turnovers. There are jaw-dropping breakdowns on defense allowing layups and wide open 3’s. Compared to UConn, the execution of the other top teams in the country is not even close.

As usual, you said it much better than I could.

I watch portions (it is all I can stand) of a lot of Tennessee games. Compared to Tennessee, UConn is a world renowned orchestra. Tennessee is a middle school garage band. The Vols win ugly. I do think the UConn way will produce at least a 20 point win against the Vols.

On the lighter side, I can’t stop seeing Arnold Stang whenever I look at Anthony Bozzella.

There are fans that see the team in a micro way, in other words, they see the small details that are perceived as possible problems for the team. Things like Blanca’s turnovers, Ash’s fouls, Azzi’s “slump”, etc. the details become magnified in their view.

Others, like me, see a macro view of the team, seeing the team as one organism, so to speak, rather that a lot of smaller parts. Azzi slumping? KK picked up the slack vs ‘Nova. Sarah having an “off” day? Blanca stepped in. Serah got binged up? Jana and Ayanna capably managed the post.

I don’t usually participate in the threads where folks talk about individual matchups because of my macro vision. I don’t see KK vs their pg, I see the Huskies’ pg corps vs theirs. If KK is off, Kaleigh can step in. With UConn’s longer bench last year and, especially, this year, Geno can take out a player that’s having an off night without it hurting the team. So, no worrying about a player’s turnovers or shots not falling - someone else can pick up the slack.

There’s nothing wrong with either point of view, btw. I hope people will stop throwing shade at fans that think differently than they do. You aren’t being persecuted for having an unpopular opinion, people are just disagreeing with you because they see the game differently

I have to say that this micro vs macro approach is something that I was totally unaware of. So without describing which approach I have I hope to be a macro when I grow up

Often enough to notice, UConn will bump opposing ballhandlers off their spots and get away with it. That's bound to come back at some point & haunt them as ticky tac "ghost fouls."
UConn fans need to accept the good officiating with the bad.

Whoa! Blasphemous comment. But spot on. The aggressive defense they're playing will lead to more contact. And,amazingly, the refs don't seemed to be afraid to make the calls.

First, we (UConn fans) don't watch those other teams unless they are playing us and second, I think we have legitimate concerns about this years team (albeit undefeated) due to the deficiencies mentioned above. Personally, I look to the size of the roster affecting the playing time of our stars (Azzi and Sarah), the WIP in the paint with Serah and Jana and the continuing search for the 3rd shooter that will be needed when the good teams concentrate on shutting down our stars. That's all.

Speak for yourself. There are many UConn fans that are also BIG fans of WBB, who watch lots of teams play. Today, in addition to watching the NFL playoffs, I also plan to watch the other undefeated team, Vanderbilt, against SC.

I was watching an NFL hockey game a couple days ago and the announcers started babbling on about one of the player’s childhood, learning to play on a pond in his backyard etc. This was during the game. It’s an epidemic of verbal diarrhea across all sports

I completely agree. For example, SC had their Michigan moment with Oklahoma. They went off the rails and Chavez did her best Swords impression and they lost. In contrast Azzi said alright I'll just match you shot for shot Swords and UConn wins. No one talks about that grit. They just talk about we almost lost and we're vulnerable.

It's her defense. Focus in on her when she is on defense and then think about how KK, Azzi, K9 and Ash do defense and you'll get why she gets just a few minutes. It's not her offense or facilitation skills. It's defense.

Usually the bus is the place where everyone meets the UCONN players after the game and gets photos, autographs etc. It was freezing yesterday but that hasn't stopped fans in the past. Yesterday though they closed off the area around the bus so you couldn't get within 100 feet of it. That was probably to get them out of there faster. Apparently, if anyone had getting out of there fast on their minds it was the assistant coaches who didn't have a new outfit to wear since they were expecting to come back after the Hoyas game. According to Geno it was a crisis of immense proportions. Montclair has several great stores right down the block ( as well as restaurants) but apparently that was a no go.

Never saw CD in a hoodie before (at least at a game). It was a good look for her.

A long time ago, a single play-by-play announcer did the entire game without the assistance of 1-2 color commentators, sideline reporters or a pre & postgame studio crew. Some of the very best announcers in sports like Red Barber, Lindsey Allen, Keith Jackson & Marv Albert all got their start as solitary sports reporters.

Through the years, there was a relentless push to add more reporters to sports broadcasts. The problem is that all these additional reporters need to justify their paychecks by talking. The end result is that the reporting teams get lost in the tall grass, talking ad nauseum about background stories, personal nonsense and whatever comes into their head, losing the play-by-play call of the game.

I felt the same way with Paige graduating. Many on the BY were wringing their hands and gnashing their teeth over how could Paige possibly replaced? I knew others, the organism as you put it, would take Paige's shots with no catastrophic drop off. No 1 person is Paige, but the organism makes up for it.

This regular season cake walk isn't the test. If there's a drop off, it'll be seen in the last 3 rounds of the NC tournament. That's where her biggest value was, the safety valve.

Speak for yourself. There are many UConn fans that are also BIG fans of WBB, who watch lots of teams play. Today, in addition to watching the NFL playoffs, I also plan to watch the other undefeated team, Vanderbilt, against SC.

I watched St John look every bit as good as UConn did in beating Villanova. I have watched every good team out there and even some of the weaker teams. How else can one make fair comparisons?

Many of the color announcers are former players or coaches who did not go to broadcasting school. They do not have the same broadcasting skills some of the better announcers have.

If you choose to call this sputtering as a team than you have much higher standards than I do. I respectfully disagree as I see this team as a force of nature that is in the process of growing individually and collectively before our eyes. Enjoy their journey.

What is it if not sputtering? That is what many fans are complaining about. When UConn starts playing to their potential you will see the number of missed layups and free throws drop and three-point shooting overall, improve. Their long scoring droughts will disappear.
