It’s great to watch as many games as possible. But relative to St Johns, they beat Nova by 13. UConn beat Nova by 49.
Yes, but at one time the lead was at least twenty.

I watched St John look every bit as good as UConn did in beating Villanova. I have watched every good team out there and even some of the weaker teams. How else can one make fair comparisons?
You must be blind in one eye and can't see out of the other. Saying that, "St. John's looks every bit as good as UConn did beating Villanova." Except for a bad 1st quarter Nova had a competitive game, while UConn had dismantled from the start and won by 49 points. UConn has already squashed St. John's 88-43 and will most likely do the same on March 1st at the Johnnies on the final regular season game.

Dickie V was most definitely responsible for the expression, “Cupcake City Baby

You should always pack for that extra contingency day.
Had to laugh at Geno's sarcasm in the post-game pointing out after a question how the women were besides themselves on what to wear because they weren't able to return to Storrs after the Georgetown game whereas he could wear the same clothes for days with no problem. Classic Geno. Wonder if the Mrs. might have had a few words with him when he got home. 😄

After the game, while still at our seats, two fans in front of me were discussing next Sunday's Hall game vs Creighton, that Seton Hall could really beat them (which i agreed with) and how they would be there for it. I noticed that one of the men had UCONN clothing on and reminded him that next Sunday UCONN was playing Tennessee. Between the three of us, it was eventually determined that we could watch the noon game vs Tennessee and then drive to South Orange and probably make the tipoff for the Hall/Creighton game at 3.
Dedication...
Hey Basingstoke. Not going to make it. The Big Boss said she wants to go to the Tennessee game so I will be in Hartford. I only work here.

This is becoming uncomfortable, but . . . . Even for a game within her adopted home state of New Jersey, where she made first team All-State and Skyland Conference POY in 2025, Gandy was not played in a UConn blowout for the 14th consecutive time. Nor was there, yet again, a peep about her situation in the press conference.

That adds plausibility to the conjecture that UConn plans to have Gandy treat this year as a redshirt year, hoping that by 2029 when the NCAA has to make a decision about that, they will also see it that way notwithstanding her brief appearances in two early games. But any further appearances in games this late in the season would weaken her case for redshirt status.

Hopefully it doesn’t come to this. But if Gandy has to sue the NCAA for the additional year of eligibility, I strongly believe the NCAA will lose.

Did you ever think that maybe Gandy is fine with her situation? She is wearing her eyeglasses during recent games and not contacts, which would lead someone to think that she knows she isn't going into the game.
And the bottom line is that she is practicing under the greatest women's basketball coach and greatest women's assistant head coach.

They always do. The redshirt issue is being litigated right now though with different facts but I believe the resolution will be comprehensive. As I pointed out, football is the only sport I am aware of where you can still play 4 games or 1/3 of the regular season games that count towards a championship and then still redshirt without an injury. The coaches want to extend it to 9 games! For basketball, you play one second of one game and don't have an injury and you lose the year. It's different for Morgan because she hasn't played at all. As for Ice, she has played 2 games but was injured and since it is less than 30% of the regular season games she will qualify. The sport which gets the great exception, football, is an all male sport, and the legal attack on a set of rules that has the appearance of gender inequality is not insignificant. We will see but by the time Gandy's issue will materialize, it may be already resolved.

Some thoughts on the Seton Hall game:
  • UConn arrived at their NJ hotel after midnight yesterday and had barely a day to prepare for the Seton Hall game that was moved up to today. I think it showed somewhat with an uneven start by the Huskies.
  • Credit to Seton Hall and Valenzuela for coming out and taking it to the Huskies. I had to go back to look at the 1st game stats to remind myself how she played in that game. She had an uneventful 32 minutes, scoring only 8 pts.
  • UConn’s response to Seton Hall’s hot start was Blanca, who immediately had an impact at both ends of the court. In just seven 1st qtr minutes Blanca scored 9 pts on 4/4 shooting with 2 rebounds, an assist, a steal and a block. She is THE SUPERSUB!!!
  • Maybe we can put to bed the concern by some BY’ers of, “What’s wrong with Azzi’s shot?” She hit her first 3 shots from the arc, going 3/4 for the game.
  • While UConn did not have a lot of time to prepare, I thought the Huskies did a nice job of moving the ball and getting open shots against Seton Hall’s zone. Of course, it helps a whole lot when you hit your open 3’s. 🤩
  • Speaking of 3’s, setting up Allie in the corner and Ash on the wing is one sure way to bust a zone.
  • I hate to see injuries of any kind to a Husky. While Serah’s injury did not appear to be very serious (fingers crossed), she did leave the game and not return.
  • Sarah with a somewhat quiet 17-point game, if that’s even possible for the best player in WBB.
  • This was Blanca’s best game as a Husky. She filled up the stat sheet a la Sarah Strong and played much more under control when attacking the basket. Blanca did commit 3 turnovers but she also dropped 4 dimes.
  • You can never have enough good players. I really like the minutes I'm seeing from Ayanna. It's easy to forget that before all her injuries, she was the 4th rated player in the Class of 2022.
  • The Huskies will hustle on back to Storrs ahead of the storm. To BY’ers everywhere, “Batten down the hatches and STAY SAFE.” Xavier is up next at Gampel on Wednesday.
I agree about Ayanna. She is looking more and more comfortable on the court. Imagine if she develops to her potential in one season?

Although I understand, I find it hard to believe that a program known for doing things the right way is literally rolling the dice with a year of a player’s eligibility.

I don't agree with the bold. The right way is to play for championships. Its not a failure if you don't win every year but the 1st obligation to every player on teh teaam is for the coach to try to coach to win a championship. Other teams that's not their obligation. But for UCONN, if you aren't trying to win a championship, then you've backed out on your word to players like Sarah Strong etc. That's "the right way" for this program at this time. My only change is that I wouldn't have played GG from the start and red-shirted her. That's the mistake imo. But from this point - there is no "dice-roll."
