I'm also sick of the "they wanted it more!" or "they had more toughness!" crap.

Every player on the floor was tough. Every player on the floor wanted to win. We just didn't play the right way TO win. That was a failure of preparation by the staff and players alike.

Onto the next one. The Big East isn't supposed to be easy.
If you didn’t see that one team was tougher than the other then your blind. It was also the things you said but they were definitely the tougher rougher team. It’s apart of the recipe to beat us this year. Make it a fight and we may fold. I don’t think it will happen ooc though.

We are now 6-7 on the road the last two seasons.

That's really frustrating... esp in BE play. I've seen so many interviews with the players where location doesn't matter after what we've seen and been through. There is clearly is an issue away from home.

Disappointed because I thought this team was too smart and experienced to play that bad. They lost at Seton Hall last season so I figured it couldn't happen again.

Very worried about Clingan. If he's out for the season then they are in big trouble. No depth at the 5 and Johnson looked like a newborn colt tonight. What was that?

Who thought the black uniforms were a good idea? I'm sure not Hurley. Surprised he didn't over rule that.

.-.
Agree on everything but the toughness. It doesn’t mean our guys are soft. SH absolutely was tougher in the paint tonight. The guards went stronger to the rim. And Samson was completely outmatched on the glass

Fair enough. I call that strength or quickness or skill... just sort of depends on how you define it. A lot of guys saying we weren't "tough" in the chat ARE calling our players soft. that's the general point I was making.

But played like warriors @Kansas. I think the issue is something different. And it’s staring us all in the face. It just comes off sore loser ish to bring it up after we played so poorly so I won’t haha

It’s not effort that’s such an over used phrase. Work smarter not harder.

Without Clingan in the game we got embarrassed. With him on the floor we still lose. It it would be close tho. Our lack of athleticism with Cam and AK on the floor together was on full display against a super athletic team.

Felt like Holloway was prepared. They had Dawes sitting waiting for the switch. When we rolled to to the rim they made sure their hands were up to tip passes. Played us to perfection. Took Cam and AK out the game and forced Newton to beat them one on one. They did what Kansas did except Newtoncl could not rescue us tonight.

Beat Gonzaga, Beat UNC, Beat Texas, Beat Indiana. Should have beat Kansas. We looked good in all of those games.

Big East is no joke. Marquette just lost to Providence. We will not win every game, it’s not reality to think we will.

Learn from the sloppy play and move on. Better bring our A game on Saturday against St. John’s. Pitino is going to have them ready to play.

Hopefully we are in this part of last years schedule.

Good news is the schedule, at least on paper, is not too bad for the next 3 weeks or so until Creighton on 1/17. Gives Clingan some time to heal if needed.

clingan was playing amazing. I think he was due to carry us tonight. Injury looks very bad
We have no athleticism , Cam ,Newton , and Karaban are avg and it’s always shows.
-Danny has to have better athletes going forward.

Perimeter defense is gonna be a huge issue for this team. Newton is both lackadaisical and slow, Cam is even slower and gets caught ball watching and Solo just fully isn’t there yet.

The half court offense looked like a version from the early Hurley days. The fact is, we have 3 guys that are below average in athleticism and speed for their position. We didn’t pass the ball quick, we were incredibly easy to read and we couldn’t get by anyone.

I genuinely don’t think I saw 1 positive to take from this one. Very, very poor performance all around.

There are a lot of teams like Seton Hall in the Big East. We have one up next. The staff and players weren’t well prepared for this game, so they sure as he l l should be next game.

Spencer didn't look prepared physically for this type of game.

Burn the black jerseys

The good -
  • Clingan was really impressive when he was out there, but unfortunately that time was limited due to foul trouble. Not all calls today were good calls, but all of his fouls were legit. Hopefully he feels better soon and that injury is nothing serious
  • Diarra split a double team, euro stepped past a defender, and hit a reverse layup. That was nice
  • I was planning on going to the game but got sick this week so ended up staying home. Seems that worked in my favor
The bad -
  • Last year they beat us because we let them get to the hoop instead of forcing them to shoot jumpers. We made the same mistake tonight. Why are we pressuring Seton Hall 25-28 feet from the hoop when they shoot 30%?
  • Newton was 2-5 from three. The rest of the team was 2-16
  • Castle looked overwhelmed on both ends of the floor, and was visibly frustrated. Did have 2 pretty nasty blocks though
  • Crashing the offensive boards is good, but it leads to outmatched fast breaks if it doesn't work. We got smoked on fast breaks
  • Seems like nobody really wanted to play after 10 minutes. Major lack of energy and effort for most of the game and they gave up with around 5 minutes left
Disappointing game. I don't even think Seton Hall played really well, we just played horribly. Guess the guys are ready for Christmas
Well summarized, clingan and diarra only bright spots.

Clearly the refs still hate UConn, the what is a foul disparity was ridiculous.

Why cant UConn play zone against a team that cant shoot a 3.

Castle, samson, cam and ball logged worst game of year.

Lack of effort and lack of adjustments on danny

Would someone tell ball that all of his 3 point misses are long

Hope Donovan is okay, I suspect just the same injury flaring up.

Complete lack of effort was very disappointing against an nit team with an insignificant home court advantage

Bad loss. effort wasn't there. Whatever.

I'm concerned that we aren't playing castle enough; and I'm concerned it's because he missed so much time with the injury.

He looks ready and looks lost at the same time. I think he's a guy that needs to start and play 30mpg to make an impact. I'm worried the staff isn't giving him a big enough green light and enough time to adapt.
No reason he shouldn’t start next game. Better defender, rebounder, passer, driver than Solo, and Solo ain’t even hitting his shots.

It was over with 10 minutes to go, just like the game against St. John's last year.

I genuinely don’t think I saw 1 positive to take from this one. Very, very poor performance all around.

Clingan looked great pre-injury. He was primed for a 20-10-5 w/ a few blocks kind of night.

.-.
Karaban another disappearing act and Newton joined him this time.

Spencer couldn’t do a thing offensively and he’s a traffic cone on defense

If Castle can’t shoot they’re going to have to scheme more up for him on offense as right now he’s doing not much at all on that end.

Johnson looks totally outclassed and has for a few games now.

Dan Hurley needs to adjust or we’re going to have a similar BE record to last year’s.

Praying DC is ok

We really need a healthy Clingan. They seemed to roll over once he went out.
SH looked physically bigger at every position. We played small, missed a lot of inside shots and passed like an 8th grade team. This seemed like a street game. Hope Donavon is OK, good to see him back on the bench.

Biggest worry. Best case scenario is possibly a bad ankle sprain. Just the fact that he couldn’t get back in the game and was limping fairly bad, I’d be surprised to see him back for at least 4 weeks.

He doesn’t deserve to play more at this point. His defense has been good but if he can’t or won’t shoot on offense and he keeps making high school level turnovers what’s the point in playing him more? It’s not that he’s not in a groove he just isn’t an outstanding athlete and every team knows all he can do is drive
