Seth Greenberg is pretty tight with Hurley and the program

We are coming off of back to back titles. Have one of the top coaches in the game. A top recruiting class coming in. We are doing fine in NIL. Reality is we’re in the Big East and will never be able to compete money wise with the top leagues. Hopefully we can eventually get into a big time conference. With that being said I don't care what the talking heads on ESPN are saying about the program.

Care to elaborate?
Big East schools are going to put the overwhelming majority of their money towards men's basketball because they don't have football (minus UConn) and men's basketball is incredibly important to them. The other power basketball conferences are going to put the overwhelming majority of their money towards football minus possibly a few schools.

They could make up for any deficiency in NIL but scouting HS PGs better. I don't know what it is, but ball handling has not been a priority. We went from a string of kids from 1991 to 2015 who were brought in with excellent ball handling skills.

But when I think of Jalen Gaffney, Brendan Adams and Rasool Diggins, I have images in my mind of pretty weak handles. Things haven't changed this year either.

The kids we are getting with the money UConn is paying would look 100% better if they re-emphasized ballhandling.

It’s an ongoing arms race. And everyone in the big east is under resourced.
People keep saying this, but it's just not true. Villanova is spending 6 mil in just revenue share, St John's is spending close to 5 in NIL, Marquette spenditure in basketball is top 10 in the NCAA, Creighton spent big in NIL the last 3 years. Even Georgetown, who has been bottom of the barrel in the league over the last 5 years has multiple +$1 million NIL players.

Because he loves it here, he wins national championships here, he gets paid a gazillion dollars here, and the school and state will continue to provide him the resources to compete for national championships.

I assume Hurley stays until he's offered a sufficiently prestigious NBA gig that's within driving distance to New Jersey.

Anything coming from Seth Greenberg regarding Dan Hurley is coming right from Hurley himself
IMHO Greenberg said this for two reasons
First, Hurley knows he’s going to need more nil
Dollars to continue to compete
The southern schools, and to some degree, the Big Ten are culturally more inclined to donate money through the present system, or under the table as I was done in the past
This was obviously a preemptive strike by Hurley
He sees that it’s becoming an arms race with money to get the best players and he probably doesn’t have the money close to song has competition
The second reason is they give him cover for a season that did not live up to his proclamations and the fan bases, expectation
After a few years in the present system, it’s pretty obvious that’s a be a top 20 team you’re going to have to have top $20 to spend or get very lucky
Where is the taking out your ass emoji? How could you know any of what you said to be true? Short answer, you can’t.

Maybe. But, the SEC made a strategic decision to invest in basketball a few years ago, and look how quickly they've risen to the top. If the SEC or B10 prioritize basketball, the Big East won't be competitive. And with their networks providing a lot of revenue, they need year-round content. Basketball covers a lot of months where there's minimal football content.

Where are you getting these figures? I am not debating you I genuinely want to see th source.

Hey what do you know, the Big East isn't the proper home for UConn. Shocker

Those war chests are minimal compared to where the entire SEC is going.

Doomed.

Clingan made almost 1 million last year. Alex is probably around 1 million this year. We have 3 top 40 recruits coming in.

It’s well known we got the champions discount the last couple seasons. But I think it’s clear that we have enough NIL to compete at the top of the sport, we just don’t have a Body armor/Fedex/Nike/Tyson level whale funding everything we need. Hopefully a bunch of our former NBA players are making annual contributions.

Yeah but the SEC first, second and third priority is football, where the majority of the revenue share is going to go to (except Kentucky and maybe Arkansas).

Villanova
"It's probably not a coincidence that those three schools in particular are heavily invested in football as opposed to a school like Villanova, where a new coach is expected to have north of $6 million to work with, according to people with knowledge of the situation."

They have more than enough $$$ to go around. Look at the rosters this year — just armies of 6’8” athletes.

Some of the Big East teams we're competing with for players as well. They suck because of Neptune but Nova paid Dixon 1.7 million this season and they paid Wooga Poplar about the same this season. Johnnies players got around 4 million this season and Repole will open his pocketbooks more now that he sees what it gets them.
1.7 million for Wooga Poplar? 0-for-the-Final-Four Wooga Poplar?!

Mary, and Joseph.

I don’t follow the NIL stuff too closely. I know what it is and why it’s important though. Could a program have a really deep pocket donor and hand over 250 million? Are there any restrictions or is it just a different version of pro sports now?
