Serious question. How long does Hurley get?0

I was talking to someone at the football game on Saturday and it got me thinking. This will be Year 2 of the Hurley regime. If we are not a tourney team by next year does he get another? The guy was saying Edsall is in year 3 and hasn’t turned the program around yet. My view was given the mess he needs at least until 2020. But football was A. a total disaster and B. Harder to turn around. Basketball programs can go from eh to wow in one year. By next year Hurley will have had 3. Does he need to deliver something serious by then? Does he need to do it this year?
one 4 year recruiting cycle.

meh, can Hurley and bring Ollie back. Rinse and repeat until everyone forgets about the lawsuit(s).

The OP is asking what about not making the tourney by the end of year 3, which is the year after this upcoming year? Legitimate question. My guess would be that the honeymoon would be getting stale but if we have big recruits coming in it would mitigate that. It’s always about performance but also the future promise of what is coming.

If we’re a bubble team and we have recruiting traction I think he’s fine. He just has to show progress.

20 minutes?
After the appropriate instant shutdown, I scrolled down to see how long before this one came up.
And then I scroll up with last second curiosity to see the final post on page 1, and it's OP back for another whack at his own piñata.

Over 49 years of watching college hoops I’ve seen lots of “can’t miss” guys flame out st the next level. Lots of people including me were happy to get him but I think we need to be a tournament team by 2021 or seriously question if he is one of those guys. We need to finish above .500 and be at worst an NIT team this year or I think there will be some questions. We can’t make the mistake of waiting too long

Seriously? You thought it was appropriate to double down on the original post? Attention whore.

WTF were you and your buddy drinking when the conversation made this interesting turn. I can’t imagine what thoughtful debates followed.

I suppose. But why are ask this now? It's nothing but a cry from help from the OP.

I give him major props for avoiding a Herb Sendek reference...so far

It’s may be legitimate question next off season, not after year one.

Besides, there are many more legitimate questions to ask/answer like how to tip at restaurants or what grinds your gears at sporting events.

5-6 years. Stop firing coaches in all sports
Uh which coach that was fired do you believe that we should have kept? Just wondering.

Ugh. We can’t make the mistake of giving this any more replies.

None. All should have went. But you can’t have a revolving door. So, 4-5 years.

You should get detention for this post...

Dave Dombrowski Red Sox GM won a World Series last year. He just got fired last night.

Because John Henry. Such a disfunctional ownership group no idea how they won so many championships w them.

Must have been one hell of a tailgate to come up with this one! I was there myself but it was mostly football at ours. Dan just signed his contract in late June and you are already wondering when he should be fired???

I think it’ll be time for him to go once he reaches the age where he’s comfortable enough to pick his nose while coaching on national TV.

Yes and he was known in the past to sell off the farm system to do it but the point is this: Danny is a very good coach and the UCONN fan base is in love with him during this rebuilding but....a few seasons of non success can change sentiment in a New Jersey minute. Not much loyalty anymore in this world for non winners in any sport. We forget how many of us were enchanted with KO’s shtick for a long time, taking the stairs not the elevator.. I can’t remember them all but no one repeats any of them anymore. It happens all the time.

Me personally... I opt to what JC was told by John Wooden many years ago... JW told JC... "You must get good players." ...Maybe Chief00 can shed some similar thoughts or something different. Please someone correct me if I am mistaken about this. Did I read it JC's book...not sure but I do remember that comment from him - I believe.... Caliparai gets excellent players but is unable to keep them long enough to make a powerhouse team. Everything is 1 and done. Gives him 20+ wins and keeps him in his job.

I am convinced Dan Hurley can coach as well as anybody... My view of him is what he brings with him to secure 'good' players. I think he has the network to do that. I still think KO's problem was his marriage - after stepping into a JC (basically) assembled team. IMO, give Dan Hurley a couple of cycles and an injection of his blood. Still think Cole is truly an amazing talent... that should be a bit of a clue.

How long? Administrative people (feeling pressures) make decisions like these... not folks with deep understanding of basketball and the current landscape. Ugh..

I'm thinking you don't what dysfunctional means. Four rings for a franchise that hadn't won in 86 years. Then they did it all over again at Liverpool.

By Shtick, you mean winning a national championship? I think I learned Yiddish differently than you did.

Uh, need I remind you of Yawkeys? Henry's group is a major step up.

I think he means the Ollisms ten toes in, don't take the escalator, etc. When things are going well they are endearing. Less so when they aren't.
